What is wrong with RPs asking for an MMO they way they want one? After all asking for something is the only way to get it.
Because asking for an optional feature NOT to be included isn't asking for you to get an MMO the way you want; it's asking for everybody else to get an MMO the way you want.
It's an MMO; sometimes there will be people near you having fun incorrectly.

Yes, I like playing "dodge the creeps" while wearing a santa suit. Others like to grind XP for days.
To each their own. But please let me have some holiday events.

Never said it was incorrect but nice to know you think there is a wrong way to play. (tongue slightly in cheek)
Umm the second part of neverwinters MMO tag is RPG. Just saying lets not leave that part out. So it is not wrong for someone to ask for something that will increase their enjoyment even if it is that something be absent.
Meh it is a big sandbox and the cat usually gets there first. I think I'll find plenty to enjoy in this game just as I am sure there will be things I don't.
Xmas events might be fine, but Halloween is really absolutely and exclusively celebrated in the US. Some people could be frightened or disillusioned by it ( I dunno ). So while people should be ok to goof off the way they want to, are we going to get all the Hindu holidays as well ? And the Jewish ones and Suaheli ?? Because anything else would be discrimatory.

As a STO player that thoroughly enjoyed having a snowball fight the 20 foot tall Snowman Overlord (and minions) while sliding around on a frozen lake...I say bring on the cheese. It's silly fun times.
Although somewhat goofy, the holiday events in EQ/EQ2 were pretty fun and well developed. Lord of the Rings Online had the events tied into the seasons (solstices and equinoxes), and weren't goofy at all. And pretty awesome.

Too long, won’t read: I agree to a point only because the particular world does have pre-established holidays detailed out.
First, ‘immersion’ means different things to different people. I dislike the idea of becoming immersed in a game due to how many people take it one step to far. (Not to mention limitations on game mechanics that ruins the immersion.) For me, ‘immersion’ means being able to create a background and history for my character(s) that fits with the lore of the game… roughly at least. (For example, I may not want my characters to be focused around Neverwinter but some other part of the world.)
Second, there is nothing wrong with events that tie into real world holidays. In fact it is a good reminder that there is a world outside of the game and you should go enjoy it a bit. These events tend to be completely optional. The only reason someone should be upset is if they do not want to ‘waste their time on a cheesy event’ but want to have all the achievements. But this is no fault of the developers but a personal addiction or choice.
Third, I agree that it would be much nicer if the events in-game actually related to the game lore. But not because I feel typical holiday events are cheesy or distracting. If the game has the lore in place already it is simply a shame to waste it in favor of mimicking real holidays Abeir-Toril does have holidays unique to the world, though Faerun’s holidays may differ from Kara-Tur, Zakhara, Maztica and the ‘other’ landmasses.
As long as they don't focus to heavily on fluff and fix bugs as a priority then I have no issues. Hate it when MMO's spend more time on fluff when the core game is broken.
I'm guessing that, like other MMOS, they have 2 different teams for that stuff. Also, often bugs can take a LONG time to track down properly, depending on what they are linked with and the consequences of a fix could be.

Looking at STO and CO there WILL be events based off of real world timing that is tailored to the game's theme. Q's winter wonderland is a perfect example. No "Christmas"b ut a lot of HOLIDAY fun.
And trust me when I say there is something wrong if we DON'T have optional undead "festivities" around late October in Neverwinter.
Since anything celebrating holidays has to be cleared with WotC, I can all but promise holidays are going to be VERY closely emulated based on in game actual holiday lore.

Feast of the Moon around Halloween
Midwinter festival during december
etc.
Keeps the flavor of the realms, while allowing people to enjoy in game events around the holidays.
I agree with this, BUT!!
I think holiday specials on the ingame store is an awesome way to show appreciation to the fans. Discounts are always welcomed.
I love holidays, I love cheese, I love parties... Bring on the holiday cheese parties!
This city promises death for the meek, glory for the bold, danger for all, and riches for Jade! Elven Trickster Rogue: Two-bladed elf, tons of stabby stabby and that sort of thing...

I've stated my opinions of holidays in Neverwinter Online a while back. Here also. I have done a lot of compiling about Holidays and Festivals in my Grimoire of Time, please have a look - it is far more accurate and detailed than the previously mentioned wiki.
To reiterate, I hope any in-game festivities and holidays pertain only to Forgotten Realms' specific festivals and holidays. Please leave Real-World Holidays to the Real World!
Death of Mystra/Spellplague (celebrated like Halloween)
Death of Tyr and ascension of Torm
Death of Helm (people go and escort spellplague people from wilderness to Helm's hold)
Neverember's usurpation day
Mount Hotenow eruption day
Selune's tears day (when the dragons fired but couldn't destroy red comet)
And days/weeks related to gods like tymora (increased luck in drops), Beeshba's week (increased critical but low drops) etc.
Thank you! For noticing that. Most of the thought process in the whole post actually went into the last sentence only.
*cries with joy*
I rewrote it several times before posting, thinking how to differentiate between good one who grants good luck, vs bad one who saves from bad-luck.
I agree and despite me being a total push-over for almost anything Mystryl related (Halloween should be devoted to Kelemvor however - no? Either Shieldmeet or Feast of the Moon), I really like the sounds of and the possibilities for enjoyment with the last sentence as well, "And days/weeks related to gods like tymora (increased luck in drops), Beeshba's week (increased critical but low drops) etc."
I am a sucker for well planned and implemented holidays and festivals in MMOs. NWO's should be no exception should it have such. I personally feel that all the major God's that are worshipped in Neverwinter (have Churches/Temples/Shrines in or around the City), should have their Holy Days celebrated as Festival Style events in the game world.
Oh I know I'm just hoping that by posting it they will go "heeeeeyyy we almost forgot those type of events":)
I am hoping this too or better yet, I hope they're reading it and thinking "We're so glad we put this in already, it's going to obviously give enjoyment to some players."
I hope the game celebrated festivals are not real world celebrations. No offense, but I seriously do not want to see Christmas, Halloween, St. Patrick's Day, Valentines Day, or any other "real world" holiday celebrated in NWO. Mind you, Samhain is my favourite time of the year - that doesn't mean it belongs as a named holiday in the Realms. Turbine's LotRO has done a great job at introducing "Tolkien" related holidays that happen to coincide with "real world" holidays and seasons. I hope Neverwinter does or has done the same or better with the established Torilian holidays and festivals.

I love in-game holidays and special events. I do, however, think they should relate to the game storyline (as others have mentioned). I do not mind at all if they fall on real-world holidays (kinda like it, actually), but there should be some reason for it in-game.
And when I say I love the holiday events, I mean I really, really love them ;-)
Alright I've been thinking about this for awhile but now I need to post this to get this off of my chest. I am not entirely sure how the majority feel about this but I think that Holiday events and achievements ruin immersion and make the game really cheesy.
I'm not against them exactly, but I don't participate in them. I totally agree about the lack of immersion they bring, but at the same time, I completely understand why developers do them. They are trying to make those times of year special, but mainly they are trying to retain customers in a very competitive market.
I'm personally hoping that with the Foundry and UGC, Cryptic won't feel the need to add holiday events. Hell, if a person wants to make a holiday themed event, they can do it with the Foundry. But please make them good.
If say, it's Halloween in RL and you want to make a day where a demon is closest to the world in whatever plane they exist in, you can make an adventure where a group of Necromancers are going to do a ritual to release it. It would be up to a party to stop them before it happens, and maybe if you killed them, but not quite in time, the demon comes back at half heath or something. I don't know, just spitballing here. Regardless, make it make sense in the D&D world.
I say bring on the cheesy holiday events. As long as they are optional who cares? My cup of tea may not be your cup of tea. But then your cup of tea may not be mine, either. That is why I think the more options we have, the better. IF you want no part of a holiday event, fine. If I take part in a holiday event and you don't see it happening, then what harm is it to you?
I'm not really a John Galt,
but I play one on the forums...

IMO devs should focus on making content that can be accessed permanently rather than making stuff that is only temporary available. I do not mind some snow or pumpkins or whatever but do not focus on this stuff. IMO GW2 team shot themselves in the foot making a lot of stupid temporary content that did not further their game in any way.

We get tea with our cheese too?!
Yippie!
There should be cheesy gods days...like "day of Malar", Lathander, Lolth, Sehanine-Moonbow, Helm...etc
Would make more sense imo....but you can still have tea/coffee or ale
