Sorry if it has been answered before, but some websites are listing the Renegade as a seperate race while others list it as a class could someone please elabourate?
I know they are Drow (Obviously, Menzoberranzan is an Underdark city afterall) but can anyone please give me any info i may have missed.
Gain access to a unique playable race! Like the legendary ranger Drizzt Do'Urden, you can play as a Drow exiled from the dark elf stronghold of Menzoberranzan, City of Intrigue. Complete with unique racial ability ("Fairie Fire") and cosmetic option (tattoo)!
It is a variation on the basic Drow race selection; it is not a class.

ahh many thanks, so not entirely its own race, you pick to play as a Drow then can select this modifyer to give special effects? (be it unique visuals or whatever)
Think of it like a fighting game palette swap or alternate costume. Anyone can pick Ryu when they pick up a Street Fighter game. They have all the same moves and button combinations. But if you paid for this, you could play as Ryu in a Ronald McDonald outfit.
The people who didn't pay will still be able to do the same things as you, depending on which class it is they chose, but you'll look like an authentic Drizzt Do'urden while doing them (actually, I think you get 1 or 2 extra powers specific to "menzoberranzan renegade", but whether they're any good, nobody knows yet).

I honestly do not know exactly how you select the Menzoberranzan Renegade; I would imagine it will be its own option since it says "unique playable race," so they classify it as its own race. By "variation" I meant more along the lines of that it is just a unique spin of the standard Drow racial selection, with different background lore and the mentioned cosmetic (tattoo) and racial ability differences. Past that I imagine it will have the same starting stats and same looks.

From all the chit-chat I hear on the forums, the term "unique race" is a misconception. It's just a background for your character. Like saying someone from Chicago is a different race than someone from New York, but in D&D terms, it's the same drow species.

Pretty much what Pinpointerror has told the mods. It is not a race, it is a background and this background gives you a unique costume.

According to the founders page, it has it's own skill (Faerie Fire) and tattoo, and given that it has brown skin, I would say that if anything it is a sub-race. It would be like if they released a special type of Tiefling called a Pitborn that had different styles of tail and horns different leg styles (instead of the kind Tieflings have now, they have more bestial legs like you can make your character in Champions Online have), and have the skill "Shatter" instead of "Bloodhunt".
In fact, releasing sub-races might not be a bad idea. Would allow for more customization and make the game closer to a regular D&D game than it is now, and probably be a good way to help fund future updates and the release of new races/classes.

I'm wondering if we are going to see more variant backgrounds with unique costumes on the Cstore....

No confirmation but it seems more than likely to me.
Why does it have a brown skin I wonder? Any reason for that?
Drow can vary in their skin tone. It also happens in pictures about the drow but it can a matter of style by the author:
Pure black skin can be difficult to work with.

Indeed, most do not realize but the average drow's skin is actually not pure black. I see a lot who think it is supposed to be jet black. As the poster above me pointed out, drow skin varies greatly however the most common skin tone is an Obsidian Black with undertones of Deep Purple and sometimes undertones of a more blueish-purple, as depicted in the image the user posted. It can also be as light as a dark-ash blackish-grey as well.
Their hair can range from yellow to sickly yellow (this latter usually denotes advanced age or disease) to a brilliant pure white. Their eyes also range widely, with reds and purples being the most common as those born with green or blue eyes are usually sacrificed at birth for they are seen as either being tainted by goodness or having surface elven blood in them. No matter what their eye color is though, when a drow gets angry, their eyes tend to glow with a reddish over-tone.

I'm not really sure about changes and retcons between 2E, 3E and 4E in the drow "set up" (including the infravision/darkvision) but I still find it a nice reading about drow. If only my local publishers were to translate Menzoberranzan and publish it so I can buy and read it...

Yeah, best way to describe this is not as a sub race but a racial variant. This is what those who have to survive on the surface and from heir fellow hunting them drow did to adapt to survive.
Other regular race drow will be available for free of course.

I have a question about the Menzoberranzan Renegade.
As it sais on the Founders info;
• Exclusive access to ‘Menzoberranzan Renegade’, a unique playable racial background like the legendary ranger Drizzt Do’Urden, complete with unique racial abilities, costume, and tattoos
As it is an extra choice of background, could a Drow picking any class choose that background? As for now it gives me the impression (based on trailer and screens) that its locked to the Rogue class.
Also, another sub-question; the 'costume' thats mentioned, I guess thats the one from the trailer/screens. But is it only 1 costume choice, or is there 1 for each class. Depending on what you picked (if that was possible)?
I know this pretty much cant all be answered at the moment. But I just wanted to share my thoughts.
Pretty much what Pinpointerror has told the mods. It is not a race, it is a background and this background gives you a unique costume.
How will the unique costume work? Is it something that is good for only a couple of levels, but will be quickly replaced by other armor? Or will this be like in STO where the armor you wear can be hidden and allows you to display whatever costume is equiped on your character?

having unique races that have exclusive skills from the cstore is bordering on pay2win...
also, the skill isnt spelled right on the webpage. its spelled FAERIE Fire, not fairie. and if the skill is only available through this renegade subclass then its BS cause the skill is a staple druid spell.
Other than faerie fire, legit drow is supposed to be able to cast darkness onto areas and see in the dark.. use hand-signs to interact with other drows, levitate at will... but currently not in the game however, if i'm not wrong hehehe

When you mine the data files, it's showing Menzo Renegade as an actual separate resource. Along with humans, drow, dwarves, elves, etc. Backgrounds don't appear in this file listing.
I personally don't think it works like the posters here say based on the character selection screen. Your racials are displayed when selecting the race; you're already through character gen by the time you select a background (including stats, etc.) - so the "parent" racial abilities would be either unmodified or not described. It's generally a bad idea when coding to do a last second racial ability "swap". There are too many opportunities for the code to mess up, as opposed to just having it as a selectable race and going forward from there.

I don't think anyone here is stating otherwise (that Menzogade is coded as a race here). But what's coded into this game isn't canon. Meaning that I can code "Blacklake Elf" as a release exclusive kind of elf character with a background relationship with Neverwinter, but that doesn't mean that he is separate racially from the rest of the elves. Lore-wise, it's a background.
That's the main discussion between some HotN pack purchasers: they claim that they have an "exclusive race/sub-race" when it's a background in the lore. There is no such thing as "Menzoberranzan Renegade Drow Elf". They're all Drow.
Characters: - Titania Silverblade, the Iron Rose of Myth Drannor (Lvl 60 GWF, Destroyer) - Gwyneth, the Cowardly Cat Burglar Drowling (Lvl 60 TR, Saboteur) - Lady Rowanne Firehair, Heartwarder of Sune (Lvl 33 DC) - Satella, Sensate (LvL 44 CW, Renegade, Non-Active)

The look is based on the race again, and is not based on class. Class items may change your costumed appearance.
We can't detail how the costume will be "replaced" as they haven't released if it can override other armor pieces.
