so... this means that i we dont have to buy Torchlight 2 to play the beta
Well, nobody would force you to buy Torchlight 2. Will buying Torchlight 2 be the only way to play beta? I doubt it, but we have no idea how easy/difficult it will be to get into beta through other means such as beta key give-away promotions and the like, nor do we have any idea if there will be an open beta available to everyone before "retail" I don't think.
Beta by the end of summer 2012 with a relase date of late 2012. Not a long beta.
I really do hope the Betas start much sooner - like within the next few weeks. However, a quick release date is not something that I hope for, as I am the kind that would like to have a game released as polished as possible. I would like to see more MMOs, especially Neverwinter, remain in closed and open betas much longer than they have been, seemingly as of late. Personally, I just would like Neverwinter to be the best that it can be and having been a DM of Forgotten Realms for over a decade, I would be more than happy to do all that I can to help this game become the marvelous success that it should be.

Nowadays, the vast majority of MMOs are already ready for launch at the end of Alpha. Closed betas are mostly just used for stress tests, minor tweaks and publicity, and open betas... well, look at PWE, none of their games have stopped being in Open Beta...

Should be as late as end of 2012 and closed beta at third quarter 2012. Hope we will get concrete dates soon which I will update on my New User's FAQ when we do.

The E3 interview defines beta dates as end of summer, which I guess is a little late than quarter (maybe got postponed a month). But its a range so its not concrete. I post it on your FAQ thread and a few more info.

Just read it and will soon update it on my thread as a possible (and link the game article.)
I know this is kind of an older thread, but I just wanted to share the information I had. I talked to some of the people at the Neverwinter booth at E3 and they said the beta should start soon. "In a couple of weeks", was the exact phrase that the lady behind the desk told me (the one giving out the beta invites).
I can't wait, I'm really excited for this game.

Excuse me a moment

Good to know, no big whoop, but hope it's true if it's important that is

Good to know that the beta probably graduated from the (accursed)soon phase (finally!).

"A couple of weeks" sounds very nice but if next week we still don't hear anything about it, I'll assume "a couple of weeks from our approaching speed of light point of view". XD
Once beta starts we can go from "When does beta start?" to "Why haven't I been invited yet?". I'll be happy just knowing that my videocard is good enough to run the game. Otherwise b:bye (b:cry)

I'd be happy to update something about Beta on the New Users FAQ

I can't comment about the virgins, but I can verify with absolute certainty that buying TLII is not the only way to get a beta key. Many keys were given away at PAX East and E3. We're still a little ways away from the CB- there may yet be beta key giveaways!
I am so excited as well! Our group hasn't been able to play any PnP at all this year yet - so yeah, I'm about to go all wild magic up in here or let loose a spellplague of my own... I've gone and done cancelled gaming subscriptions and am now biding my Time, jumping between free to play MMOs every few days. Cannot wait to actually be able to say,"Yeah, I play Neverwinter," and mean it like I used to say when I played Ultima Online, back in the day, as alternate reality versions of Elminster Aumar and Terraseer(Baja/Origin). I can just feel Abeir-Toril and the Weave again in such a way, a more pure way... closer now. Much closer, yes...

No, you don't have to, but doing so will guarantee you a spot in the beta (but if that's your only reason for buying Torchlight 2, then don't buy it)
Bring on the BETA! Oh, and let me in to the BETA!

No joke I was wondering if they had plans to try to entice a certain Turbine forum moderator with the possibility of saying "Soon" alot. :P
