mod 16 ranger

so I saw the guide sharp posted. but it deals mostly in the very basics.


what should we be looking for for comps and insignias and what stats do we need to have? the company set isn't good anymore. should we be rocking orcus now? lostmauth? I'm guessing we're better building for crit /power than ca now.

    I guess I'll hold out for that event neck/waist set from tales of old. Tbh though I have no idea at all. Just hoping we don't get trashed in the changes.

    I've heard tell rangers are one of the strongest if not the strongest dps to come out of this. who knows what next mod mw will look like too. I've got an orcus set in the closet getting dusty..

    I checked my closet too, it just had work-clothes and a bunch of ties I never wear anymore in it. On the plus side however, I never thrw away all my old loyal avenger gear, so, yay-me.

    Side note I guess buff-builds are out the window too. Looks like a 3 loadout deal, trashmobs,boss,pvp.

    as of right now, yes afaik we are supposed to be the highest dps of the lot. ofc, that speaks to how nerfed we all are. still not great dps just better than the others lol

    High dps. If you say so. Playing with classic archery using split the sky and others. It feels real bad now. Real fun, just waiting around for StS and thorn ward to finish off things while aimed shot aims to tickle them.

    Old trapper style is good and dead, and feels terrible to play. Combat probably not much better.

    I think there is probably one good build of the lot that you can scrape together and that's the way everyone is going to end up having to play it. I find it baffling that all the combinations aren't good right out the gate yah know?


    and I didn't say high dps, I said the highest dps of the lot, lol. there is a difference.. one could be taken to say it's actually high dps.. impressive stuff. the other just means the best of the lot which can still be pretty lackluster right.. lol

    I haven't tried copying the build sharp posted in the don't panic thread. I'm guessing that's where the bread and potatoes are.

    From what I've read and heard from friends it looks like we're all going to be shoe-horned into basic builds, 1 class - 1 build. 2 if you're going to count single-target/aoe. I'm guessing pvp will be the same. Any variety will at least initially come from what mounts and pets you have, until everyone catches up.

    This is going to make us all very interchangeable. Hmm. Let's hope gear makes a difference later on, but meh, I dunno, seems like a lot of the variables and complexity, such as there was, has gone out the window.

    Choice of content also, I guess till we beef up, will shrink to "what is possible" rather than "what do I feel like doing right now". For example today I soloed illusionist skirmish right through to gold, out of curiousity, which was fun, but guess I won't ever do that again lol.

    Mixed feelings right now.

    That's a good point, unless racial differences have also gotten homogenized.

    everyone will want to be lizard and for we there is vorpal in one corner and all the rest in the other. I am pretty sure hr's will want crit builds and thus be needing vorpal.

    I've been over on preview the last few days. I hit 80 and leveled everything up to rank 15, I've tested out maxed Vorpal, Lightning and Fey. Tested out Warden and a few different feat setups. So far Melee feels weak while ranged dmg is over the top. I need to get ACT up and running but it feels like ranged hits 3 times harder than melee is atm with a melee build :( I'm, sure its bugged all to hell atm. I'll be working on a guild for the Warden setup this upcoming week. I've skimmed over the Hunter Paragon path and overall to me it seems more for PvP imo.

    So for leveling I stuck with the tiger, used +4 fierce gear ( only because the +5 blod neck was bugged and would crash the game if I so much as touched it) and used rank 14 empowered, For off/def I went maxed out Black Ice and for Utility I went maxed out Brutals for faster xp gain and companion str. The companion is so OP atm, you can run circles around groups and let the compaion kill them on its own, so funny to watch. My companion is at 35% bolstered atm I have 9 companions in the beast section all legendary. It doesn't seem to be a cap on bolstering atm.

    Sounds like pokemon. Summon your best pet, watch them fight. Shout "Come on !!!! You can do it !!!" a lot.

    Melee is bugged, but will be fixed. It should then compare much better with ranged.

    Just standing at the bank. I didn't play any of Ravenloft so the gear I'm in was BiS for CoDG minus the +1 weapons.

    the comp thing is beyond ridiculous atm.. and they have to cap bolstering.. because.. stupid.

    That being said, the limited time Ive seen and ported toons over.. hr, then tr, then cw.. then whatever.. then way down on the list gwf.. because , well they literally cant thing of what to do with it.. its lame. also.. not exactly sure about sw.

    It sort of feels like mod 1 or 2.. before we all had outrageous x3 lifesteal (even back then to be honest.. sharandar boon x 4-5% lifesteal was enough for most content. (still was to be honest.. just slotting the guild boon made everyone invincible)

    While I sort of appreciate some of this.. there are a few things I dont like.

    1. everything seems slow.. they should reduce encounter powers.. retinker with damage and damage from enemies again.
    2. Something seems wrong with scaling..
    3. they went to far in some directions.. too much nerf on some things..
    4. I hate more ranks of enchants.. come on.. you want to nerf everything and sale back a pitiful amount of power so you can again achieve millions in profits.. I guess thats just the play to nerf model.. I think I still wish I had a sub to skip all of that.

    @silverkelt if you look at the SS's that I posted with my build and I went CHA the CD's and CDR feel almost as fast as currently on live. The encounter powers come off CD rather fast sometimes the pop instantly back up.

    when you talk about scaling what feels wrong for you? The only scaling I know is off is the melee dmg is way to low atm and from what I've read they are going to adjust that.

    As far as more ranks on enchants. I don't see the issue there tbh, after all its a mmo and by its nature its designed to be played a long time and a ton of farming put in. What sucks is when you max out everything then there is no point in playing. I have done that several times in different mods, Half way through a mod I had maxed all my enchants had all BiS gear so there was ZERO incentive to log in anymore. Id rather the caps be higher and just require a ton of time.

    I can confirm the cap to bolstering is 35% total, going from green to blue gives 1%, blue to purple 1%, purple to orange 3%, all additive with 7 companions.

    That's not because CHA is good.

    That's because HR actually has decent feats that reduce cooldowns.

    On GF, a full CHA investment reduces my 30 second Anvil cooldown ... to 28 seconds!

    You should have seen the XP bonus during week 1 of Owlbear.

    I can see why the devs killed free CA from most sources, as they wanted players to actively be engaged in trying to get CA.

    The way they did it was not smart (how are we supposed to get CA by positioning on bosses like the Dragon Turtle?) and turning Aspect into "free (x) CA Bonus" is more or less a huge waste of a class feature.

    All my lovely gear, so painstakingly put together lol, straight out the window. Ah well.

    Judging by the huge amount of stats given by new pieces, I'm guessing that all our artifacts/neck/waist will change fairly soon too, by comparison their stats seem paltry.

    I have a MWIII neck waist set, with the alacrity bonus, but since recovery will be gone and movement probably too, and the stats only in the 1000 bracket, doesn't seem much point to keeping them, unless the devs change the set bonus to something amazing.

    they won't be. one of the devs addressed it. he said equipment is equipment mw or not and they were sorry if we got the wrong idea from things being improved last mod.. they are not touching them.

    I haven't seen this set in action but when they say stand it in I wonder if you have to stay in it or it's a wheel type thing.

    Having to pick feats just for cooldown reduction is obnoxious and keeps us from using those points to otherwise improve performance. Why is it so hard for them to just reduce our long cooldowns and animations?

    I dunno. If what I've experienced is a strong class compared to others, I'd hate to have to play any of the others.

    All I see is a raft of terrible ideas (nerfing aspect of the pack, taking away the movement and damage buffs from longstrider's, HAMSTER up companion enchantments, a bolster stat system that will cost millions upon millions, taking away well-understood stats to introduce new ones that we don't understand) and no good ones. Certainly no evidence of actually listening to player input. It looks like this thing won't be ready for release for a year but nevertheless they're going to rush it out in weeks.

    And all this without fixing much of the mess they made with mod 15.
