I have forwarded your suggestion. I think this idea would cut down on a lot of problems, as long as forum staff were immune to it.

Im 100% opposed, this is like these college attempts these days, if someone disagrees with us, or states things im uncomforable with we should all be allowed not to be talked to.

I have disagreed with many, many have disagreed with me, but why should we ignore each other, that is the worst solution.

There is a difference. College is a professional setting, this is a private one where we're here to have fun. Well, some of us are. If one of my friends or acquaintances keeps being a wanker I stop talking to them, essentially putting them on blog. I decide who I spend my free time with and how much access I'm going to give them to me.
You like arguments, marvellous. You do you, but I prefer to avoid trolls and habitual harassers in my spare time. No one says you have to use a block button if it existed, but kindly refrain from preventing others having the option to protect their free time from people who just take their energy.
Logic is the beginning of wisdom, not the end of it.

From a moderation standpoint, I think it would cut down on a lot of flaming. Why start flaming someone when you can just put that person on ignore and go about your day? However, that is just my opinion. I don't even know if Vanilla would be willing/able to do this.

Lol. Did you know that this is something you absolutely can do with BBCode software? (Ignore a user, but you can't ignore anyone in the admins permission group.)

Yeah, but I think Vanilla would have to do it. Not sure though. Still, I'm not sure if TPTB would be willing to implement it.

Because people on forums frequently don't just disagree and carry on their merry way, and are often not very good at using their mental "ignore" button either (where you simply don't reply to things that irritate you).

It's not really a "hide your head in the sand" feature as much as it is a "lower your blood pressure" feature. Not about ignoring people you disagree with, but people you find personally disagreeable.

You could describe it as shadowbanning someone, but so it applies just to you.

On BBCode though, ignored posts show up so they're enclosed in tags. You can still open and read them if you want to. You know something is there, but it's less in your face.

Silly forums, BBCode superior to Vanilla ;)

What ^ said. If it's possible to implement this feature so that the ignored user's posts show up but hidden under tags (like spoilers), it would make this a swell addition. Way too many people tend to fly off the handle and turn threads into pissing contests without contributing anything, so ignoring them would be useful - and you could still always check if there is something relevant since the posts aren't hidden from you.

Sure, some users probably will ignore others simply because they disagree but that's their (rather pointless as it doesn't really change anything) prerogative.

Nonsense, disagree with me, tell me Im wrong and show me why, if im wrong , most of the time I will change my mind. Dialogue, challenge, correction, expectations , community isnt always about, ignoring everything. Its ok to discourse! Its ok exchange thoughts, even with those contradict us.

Ive been wrong several times .. many. Someone ignoring me because of the tone they may feel uncomfortable about, is ridicolous.

Where is society going, that we cannot exchange views and debate issues.

This. But more so, I think I've learned more from people arguing with me (but smartly, with arguments and facts) than any other form of discussions.

We already have a big enough problem figuring out who is from XBOX, PS4 and PC. Adding an ignore feature would simply cause confusion, as is said above.

Ignore people who flame and disrespect you? All for it. Great. We ALL know this is not how this would be used. People would ignore flamers and trolls, sure. They would also ignore people that they disagree with, don't like, are from guilds they don't like, have the wrong color hair, don't share their opinion, etc.

The threads that matter usually have a lot of back and forth. Having people on ignore in such a thread will make those threads a discombobulated mess of repeated answers, questions that got answered but people can't see the answers cause they got pissy and ignored the person 2 years ago, etc.

Put on your big boy (or girl) pants, and learn to ignore people you don't like.

@kreatyve Sorry but what does this achieve, it sounds like maybe less work for the mod team, but then just get more mods, its a free position. Seems like they could add some more, considering the amount of ps4 and xbox players have been added.

I also hope you present both sides of this argument.

I wrote a userscript long ago to ignore some players on this forum. I was tired of reading hamsterposts from trolls. Some of the posts in this thread are filtered. :^)

I shared the thread, so that should be sufficient. I do understand your concerns, but I still think that it would help cut down on some of the flaming.

I love how some people think they should be able to freely cyber-bully anyone they do not like. This is a forum, not a playground or FB.

But yet they do it, I see it every single day. :(
