Look guys, there is nothing we can say or do to convince this individual ? That this game is "fun" so I say we move one to bigger and better things and not waste out energy else wise. This is a moot point.

EQ was a grind fest too. Camping mob spawns for hours just to get a bigger bag to hold more items or to get that next ding. Endlessly killing the same raid bosses for that DKP.

WoW, imo, was a bit less grindy. But I was hugely into the pvp just for fun. I just loved how that game worked. The controls, the animations, etc. But I may be looking through rose tinted glasses. I played EQ for a good 2 years. WoW since launch into WotLK, then moved on to smaller mmo like maplestory, ragnarok, dcuo, defiance, and a few mobile mmo. Was into ESO until NWO now I'm hooked.

I have a level 70 HR, lvl65 SW, and a level65 GF. There is soo much for me to do in this game I feel like I don't have enough hours in the day. For most of my day I'm constantly working towards something. (currently on workmans comp).

Point is, games like these are just not for some people. If you are forcing yourself to try and have fun, move on.

I agree with you that all mmos are made from the same mold. But you know one thing that is different? The people that play them. Just think of all the different personalities you could be playing with. This week play with a stay at home mom with kids who drive her nuts. I bet you'll never laugh so hard. Next week play with someone who is in the military. Change to someone who lives in a whole different country. Stick beside a player who only does pvp or Pve or plays the market. You can learn some much and enjoy different aspects of the game from playing with different people. All it takes is a whisper of "Hey do you wanna come out and play?"

Yes I power leveled through guild but then you must have stopped reading. The next day I finished the 1-70 content. Minus campaigns and epic dungeons . Man some people can't read well. I like the game because of my guild. If you have not run out of things to do then your just not a good player and should find a different genre to play. I have dailies and play the AH. Which is hard since I work and no online app. Missing 12 hours of auctions suck. My second guild and second char, started about 4 days ago and most plvld maybe 10 levels and are at 70. I could not do WoW content in a month plus from level 1. I am just saying I see the OPs concern and agree. I still play for now. Hoping the new mod comes out soon. Yes when I play I play for 15 hrs+. I am not casual and do an hour here and there (weekends). All I can say is I have never finished 80% of a MMO in less then a week and it is 3 years of content. I agree with others depends who you are with and like I said previously, no voice chat sucks!! Should get fixed in a few days.

for me the fun in the game is trying to improve ILvL. the hunter gatherer aspect is great imo. the currencies and conversions and what not.

    @mrrkmiller#5591

pretty sure power levelling and then going back and doing content (and why do I really doubt you did all of it...) and then complaining that you could finish all the content in a week isn't really saying much. that's not playing as intended. I'm pretty sure the elements that let you power level are an oversight/glitch around the levels of the mobs and how you are scaled and getting the numbers you'd get at 70 but not the numbers you'd get pre 70.

the gh wasn't always there. you couldn't always power level past that content.

and finally that content isn't the end game. getting to 70 is not the top level. real levelling is your ilevel number. real end game content is the campaigns and dungeons and what not. (and getting that ilevel up to 4k)

Wish they would do a proper wizards of the coast dnd with all he classes and options there would be so much diversity and options on classes but the general masses want simple options and immediate gratification a drawn out build with a lot of subtle nuances is not a bad direction to go imo

where did I say edemo and epic dungeons were not end game content? I said the content to get to level 70 (that you power leveld thru) was not the end game content. actually the endiest end game content (although it was never meant to be,) is well of dragons content. tiamat. that is up there with castle never for only being doable in a reasonable amount of time by post level 3000k ilvel.

    ftr

    1-60 was original content

60-70 elemental campaign was a dlc. it was very different for the first 7 months than we see it now. they streamlined it and made it easier to get thru. a couple months ago.

Tiamat well of dragons was a dlc

    edemo was a dlc

the dwarf campaign was a dlc (and that was a shockingly short one)

there is probably one or two in there I'm forgetting

but as you can see most dlc is endgame content.

good luck getting thru the campaigns in less than a month. (oh yeah campaigns were dlc content as well)

On like other mmo this game is very small, there nothing to explore and not much for achievement.

The fact is that if you aren't a fan of the previous D&D games and haven't read any of the forgotten realms book this game will be boring for you.
  • I feel like old school MMO's are even more grindy, I remember having to kill 20 or 30 monsters for 1 item in a "collect a stack of so and so" quest.

What's the point of this post? If you aren't enjoying it play something else. Kind of obvious

I enjoy it without trying to, or needing people to tell me how to enjoy it.

there all the same as far as the grind and even in this one it varies by campaign. and all mmos are for the casual player now there is not hardcore content as that limits players and why would they do that when it means less money. the only hardcore games are ones like Dark souls and that type of game play isn't meant for MMOS they a different animal. you would think people would understand that by now and stop asking the same repeated question

You are 100% correct with your statement. All MMOs, once you reach end game, have one type of grind or another. Here, it is campaigns to get boons and running the same dungeons (hopefully once fixed). WOW, FF XIV, EQ, EQ2, DCUO, etc... all have their own type of grind.

This game like all other MMOs I have played have removed any form of a challenge due to the average player in ability to handle harder content, AKA - Casual Gamer. Companies do this, make content easy, because the casual gamer generates just as much, if not more, revenue than the hard core gamer that wants all content to challenge them and allow them to improve as a gamer.

The lone genre that still offers players a challenge are solo games like Dark Souls and games that offer Expert, Nightmare, etc.. modes. MMOs are mostly now designed for casual gamers that want to play online games like NeverWinter, DCUO, etc... with friends. Since MMOs have moved to this model it has brought in more player and has allowed companies like Perfect World to grow its revenue and offer more content and other games.

Like I stated in other forums, if I want a game to challenge me I will pick up a game like Dark Soul or play the hardest level of difficulty. If I want to spend time working towards better gear while playing and talking with friends I play an MMO. I prefer the later, though content every now and again should offer some type of challenge in a MMO but over time that challenge should be removed because players characters improve beyond the content difficulty.

I'm liking NW. I just need to find time to get my guild built up.

I agree with a lot you say but disagree with the challenge part.

The reason for it is bc a lot of ppl confuse hard with challenge and they aren't the same thing.

You don't need to make something hard to be challenging but instead of adding good mechanic can add a challenging experience with out any difficulty involved.

While I enjoy this game (for the moment)
This game has no mechanic, everything is just tank and spank and move out of the red circle.

Games like GW2 has very little difficulty where there no need for healer or tanks but it requires for you to know what to attack and what not to attack where to move and when to move and use the environment properly against bosses.

And this game is missing all that

To me the worst part of the game is the communication system... Or maybe I am missing something. I am an old MMORPG PC player and am very new to the console. In Everquest you could actually communicate with your group by having a separate window where group chat went and it was easier to type while fighting. I know there is an alledged party voice chat but have yet to see it work. This game is different than other MMO's in that respect for me at least. I have been playing a week or two and am at level 63 of an apparent level 70 cap game. In EQ that would have taken me well over 3 years to complete because the level cap progressed with the content release. I do agree with the OP in that coming from a PC to a console MMO there just seems to be something I am missing. I know that I don't know a lot about the game and I really want to like it. Maybe I should have stuck with the PC version of the game.

    My 2 cp.
Everquest from Verant to Daybreak (left when Smedly left)
WoW Vanilla to the next to the last expansion hit.

There is communication system in the game, is not as good as other mmo but is there.

I do not miss the old days where it would take 6 months to a year to hit the lvl cap. That's one of the few things I am glad they remove.

But even that it takes a few weeks to hit this game lvl cap, you still have campaign Wich reward you with stats and new skills and does campaign can take months to finish since your are limited the amount per day you can complete.

This game have a few unique offer that are very interesting but in the end this game is more for the realm forgotten fans. If it wasn't for the fact that I read all there books, the lore on this game would had been confusing and boring and I'll probably would had stop playing.

party chat only works if everyone in the party has voice chat turned on... which they don't, because then it bugs their inventory screen and they can't see item stats. rough theory on this is that the overlay to display who's talking somehow overrides the overlay to show item stats/comparison... even though they are not in the same location on-screen, nor necessarily on-screen at the same times.

but this is ps4, the whole group is just a few button clicks away from psn party chat.

the only complaint i've had about end game content so far has been.... figuring out how to gear up effectively. seems like it's..

-hit level 70, visit the AH for any and all gear that isn't 115 yet.
-spend a week farming heroics in EE for your elemental weapon set of choice.
-cry silently into a pillow as you realize that no matter how much work you put into it, you can only get one piece of drowcraft armor a week.
-augment your 115's with 122 black ice gear while waiting for your weekly reset for drowcraft
-continue to cry silently into a pillow as you realize your dps (or tank survivability) is too low to repeatedly join the well of dragons artifact farm in between every other step.

aside from Dusk armor (primarily because it involves the Zen market, and while i'm flipping diamonds to zen to keys to tar bars, it's not inherently an activity you can do for fun), am i missing some step in the process that makes end game equipment more understandable/streamlined?

I've been playing mmo since 2004 with ff11 on ps2 and since wow's launch, game devs have been emulating it with their mmo such as dcuo, ff14 which releases content in large patches and catch up content in small patches. It is also a free to play game, with its recources up in the air based on cash shop buying. The devs need money to make content, most mmo get money with sub fees now with higher production cost mmo get it with mix of sub fee's and cash shop buying. but ya most mmo since wow does this. I mainly play ff14 and it does the same thing, you log on do the same stuff rinse repeat. Same with ff11, you logged on and did the same endgame content, dcuo logged on rinse repeat.

what have you playedmmo wise anyway? saying "since eq" doesn't give much info. Anyone could say that.

Since I hadn't played FFXIV in awhile I decided to log in and see if what you said was true and it of course was not.

FFXIV is not free to play as you said above. The game requires to be purchased and it has a monthly subscription. How is that free to play?

the level cap is 70 but the real level is ilevl which goes up to 4200 il. most people when they finish up at level 70 are about 1300-1500 ilvl.. so you change the name of levelling after 70 but there is a LOT more to go.

what are your enchantments and artifacts like? do you have all your artis? are your enchants all at least level 7 hopefully level 8? how is your arpen. (assuming you are not a dc) are you at 60% if you aren't you want to make sure your gear artis and enchantments are aimed in that direction.

if you have all four artis what color are they? getting them to a minimum of purple helps a lot. if you're doing some demonics at iwd or wod you should also be getting some seals of elements that will also get you gear.

Firesidecat, phone is not letting me quote you, but...

None of my enchants are above rank 5, as it was not until last night that i started finding the stones required to rank up beyond that, without turning to the ah or zen market. Will be working on that this week, however.

I still have one artifact slot open, but short of grinding another character to 60 (intolerable until i figure out a non questing way to powerlevel), the only method of obtaining an artifact that isnt behibd a GS-locked door is, to my knowledge, spending days/weeks farming well of dragons. If there is another option, by god share, because everything else google finds is from instances i can't enter.

I will admit i have not yet bolted myself to the chair to farm motes for a better weapon set, as i am finding conflicting information on which set is better for a paladin tank.

My arpen is, essentially, irrelevant at this stage, as my only offensive slots are my at wills. Dont have enough defense or deflection to move an encounter from damage soak to damage dealing, yet, when soloing IWD heroics for ice or ichor.

Am i doing something wrong by including ice armor in my rotation of gear vendors, or am i (aside from enchants) on the right path?

Cypheon - All my research points to Fire set or Twisted. I got lucky and didn't have to farm motes, pulled mine out of a lockbox. BTW, I am a OP tank. Earthen could be considered, but I personally still move side to side when I tank.

    Weapon set bonuses listed below.

Burning - When using a daily power, there is a chance 25% of your AP will be immediately restored.

Drowned - When you are struck, Heal for 50% of your Maximum Hit Points over the next 30 seconds, this effect may only occur once every 60 seconds.

Howling - When you dodge, block, sprint or shadow slip your Run Speed is increased by 50% for 2 seconds, this effect may only occur once every 10 seconds.

Earthen - When you stand still for 3 seconds, incoming damage is reduced by 5%. This effect stacks up to 5 times and is removed upon moving.

Twisted - Gain the affect of paranoia and bloodlust

Paranoia — Gain 160 Defense when struck, lose a stack when you strike an enemy.

Bloodlust — Gain 160 Power when you strike an enemy, lose a stack when you are struck.

Neither paranoia or bloodlust may exceed 24 stacks or be reduced below 1 stack.

Also, get a mount that will give you the Wanderer's Fortune Insignia Bonus. Goes along way to help in your refinement process.

rank 7's are cheap on the ah. buy some. pretty sure it's cheaper to just buy them than ranking up rank 5's.

FYI, I do like the game. But the content is lacking. Having guild mates and PS4 party mates makes it funner. I just got a hoard enchant and now I am on farming for the rp event! This one enchant has me on for over 8 hrs a day lol. I enjoyed the EE campaign but the rest are what is killing me. The wait time of 20 hrs. I am glad the next mod comes out in a few months, which gives me time to get to 3.5K+ Hope you are all enjoying the game, if not find a friend. It makes the experience better!

I'm straight out calling you a liar bro. I grinded more than 1 toon through the 1-60 missions and those mission take more than 2 day like you stated, try like 4+ days unless you played the game 24/7 and didn't sleep, eat, use bathroom, etc...maybe than you might achieve completion of the 1-60 missions in 2 day, but even that is stretching it a bit.

Campaigns are a few weeks worth of grinding. Epic dungeons you can do when you hit level 70, but I would recommend getting an IL up to 2K before trying them.

Game is not hard and it shouldn't be. It is a group game and group games need to account for the various level of player skill.

I found an artifact in the regular dungeon. Also the campaign that is happening right now, Portobello has an artifact as the top award if you need another artifact and don't feel ready for an Epic Dungeon.
