Updated HR High Crit Build [MOD8]

edited March 2016 in The Wilds
The last post ended up pretty disorganized and the comments made it difficult to find the useful information. So, this is the new and improved guide for my build.

Basically, this is how you make a Trapper HR with 192% Critical Severity.

Please, read the guide before asking any questions as I will not answer anything I've already covered.

Check it out here:

My only real problem with your Guide dude is you say it is not a glass cannon... from what I observed that is not the case. If you want to prove me wrong post a couple of clips of solo 15 man HE in the SH.

The Deflection chance and Life Steel are extremely low.

I don't like the fact you have 1 point in Toughness for the extra HP. I would for sure drop the 2 points you have in Extra Action, you really do not need that tiny amount of AP gain. Toughness is much better, every piece of armour you have with HP on it gets boosted etc. I noticed your HP was only 80k when I ran with you... mine is like 110k... Then I have a Tenebrous Enchant Rank 12 for 5% of my HP as damage every now and then.

The spreadsheet comparison you provided, although good, is in fact flawed. It presumes people who use a HR just spam Encounters without any thought. It only takes into account that 2 out of 4 attacks benefit from Serpents Bite. Actually this is not always the case. When I have Careful Attack up I will have more stacks of Ranged AtoS than Melee. You can time your attacks so have 2 stacks of Ranged AtoS on almost every Ranged Attack, or you can put in 5 attacks per rotation before switching to melee for heavy melee AtoS attacks.

You say that Skirmishers Gambit does more damage than Serpents Bite. You really need to be more specific there, it will only do more damage once you are above a certain threshold of Crit Chance, which I believe is 70-80% BEFORE you lose that 10% Crit chance.

Your build takes into account that you have 3 ToD boons and put all 3 in Crit Severity. I honestly think if you use 80 Linu's Favour for the last 2 boons that tiny bump in severity is not worth it over the other boons. I have been playing 1600hrs and I have given up trying to get the last boon for 50 Favours. You probably should mention that in your Gude it is most likely not obtainable these days.

Edit... I do not mean to come off sounding like I am saying your build is not any good. I actually think your build is very good and people should give it a try but at a very high item level.

To be fair, his guide shows 1 point in Dragon's Fury and 2 points in Dragon's Thirst, not 3 in Dragon's Fury.

Yeah sorry about that, that part I could have sworn I saw 3/3 in Dragon's Fury... As you have pointed out I was mistaken on that part.

Come mod 9, Maze Engine, this build will gain even more crit from certain purple or orange mounts (adding +5% / +10% respectively).

Just a heads up, as it will make the build even stronger.
• tacobeast94tacobeast94 Member Posts: 66 Arc User
@aaramis75 do you know which ones?

Heavy howler is +2000 crit (+5%). I can confirm that one, as I'm on PC and have one. Umm, I'll check which others also boost crit

*edit* - Neverwinter wiki has a list under "mount powers# fyi. At work currently, so I can't look them all up arm.
• tacobeast94tacobeast94 Member Posts: 66 Arc User
@aaramis75 oh I thought you meant 5% crit severity. I've already bought an epic mount pack (won't ever be able to afford a legendary one) do I can get the rage Drake when we get the maze engine.
• aaramis75aaramis75 Member Posts: 348 Arc User
Yeah, sorry, it's just +crit. But hey, it's a free +5% crit from Howler or Rage Drake, or +10% if anyone is lucky enough to get the Imperial Rage Drake.

Based on the initial calculations, this build shines at a higher crit chance (think it was 70+% ?), so any little bit helps, and next module it'll be that bit easier to reach that. Just giving you a heads up :)

Can't wait. Presently have 51% CC and 150% CS before the T.Vorpal, companion and Elixir. I still have many pieces to refine. 70%+ CC is there to be had.

Yup, the thing with this build is that it STARTS at 3k IL. I'm still a baby. Whereas a traditional trapper is fairly mature at 3k. But once he's all grown up being a traditional trapper will be child's play.

I've been using this build for the past week and a half with a crit chance of 47% (after gambit) and it is amazing. Yes you become more squishy but after you get your boons set right, it's perfect. I can outdps gwfs my ilvl and higher. The Highest I've outdpsed was a 3.5. However there are some gwfs I just can't touch. The only other thing I cannot outdps is a scourge warlock. I've been able to get to the top 5 consistently in edemo when I really try. I had a whole cn group wipe at orcus when I went down (please don't face tank in this build, if you do be careful) all because they needed my dps. Then the combat advantage helps A LOT. This is perhaps the best build I've seen for the hr period. This completely destroys the regular trapper build.

Giving this a try now, 4.2k HR with a T.Vorpal and a T. Dread to work with. Figure the Dread makes this even better since it relies on encounters. Vorpal probably does better for boss fights I would think due to CA.

Still getting used to not having Clear the Ground as I was SW and went PF this time. Will post back results but it seems better (though I have limited data stored to compare to.

Can't wait to see your results. I've had two hrs near my ilvl who out dpsed me not using this build. But they specialized with power and companions. Interestingly enough I changed up a bit and can out dps 1 of the two. The other one is a dude who has mythic artifacts and he beats me like he's a sw.can't wait to get to that level with this build. It works so well with owlbear.

ur build has grabbed my attention id really like to see a video of this build in play. is that possible?
• wdj40wdj40 Member Posts: 1,958 Arc User
I would also like to see a video of your build in action Taco.... Mine is similar these days but still some differences. I can post a clip later of mine but I would like to see Taco's as well so I can compare, also his Crit chance and severity are higher than mine so that is also something I`d like to see and compare :)

It might be better to run with someone using the build.

I'll try and record a run with it. Still learning how to effectively use CA of course.

Ont he stat sheet I'm at 132% Crit Sev. I have a T. Dread and Vorpal...if CA is as powerful as people say, Vorpal probably be better. I don't believe these stats show on the stat sheet, so with TV I'm at 182%, with TDread Im at 207% if my math is right. With the new feats, Im at 50% crit outside battle, but that quickly goes to the 80%'s and higher once bondings proc. I may switch some gear around to get a higher base crit...not sure. I'm basically all Azures in offense, and a mix of silvery and dark in defense.

I'll see what I can do.

Taco is full on GF mode atm and I'm full on SW...no videos from me until I get my SW boons done...

My SW doubles the dps of a HR, it's sick

Actually the only fair and true way to test yourself against another HR is to do solo timed runs etc. Running with another HR gives massive unfair advantages to one another. For instance 1 HR buffing both with Longstrider whilst the other HR does not have that power, thus not buffing the other HR as well.

Well, yeah, I figured everyone here understands their current potential and can take proper accountability. The last time I ran with Taco using Hi-C, I was neutral as possible allowing him to demo the build.

Solo testing is best for running different rotations and setup. rhadamathys has a great rotation maximizing DPS.

It is all about the situation, might have to break rotation, so what ever best keeps you on your feet is the best rotation.

Find a good HE to build/maintain fluidity and consistency. The mounted Drake in WoD, Crisis, Bickering Heads and Giants in SH, some where you will less likely receive a helping hand so you can focus.

Wow, haven't checked my arc in a while. Love to see how other rangers are progressing. Right now I'm having a lot of fun with my guardian fighter but my ranger's still my "main" I suppose. As far as a video goes, if you wanna see a HR running this build and geared to the teeth @rhadamathys would be the guy to talk to.

Also, if you see a HR doing SW type damage, they're most likely exploiting a bug with Hawk Eye.

Here is my tiamat run tonight. Note Im new to this build, but it seemed to work pretty well. Im a bit lazy so I probably lose DPS just holding down the at wills in between encounters.

https://youtu.be/hHpPZ6BSa7k

126m damage. 22m from Careful Attack.

Note: I don't claim to be a great HR.

lol it doesn`t matter I post on the PC forum all the time... In fact some of the PC guys have tested putting 15 points into the Combat tree for Skirmisher's Gambit. Their ACT logs have shown a loss in DPS from a full blown Trapper. This was my gut feeling to begin with.

I"m thinking about trying this one again. I've got my crit up quite a bit from when i tried it last time. in combat looking quickly at numbers it looks like about 26k power and 20k crit (varies of course because I have the +4 rings for crit and power on both me and my companion) and a perfect dread.
• davidagaldodavidagaldo Member Posts: 383 Arc User
What are your stats idle? Before wepenchant, companion, and elixir? Pwr, Crit, CC, CS? I don't recall seeing you online last night, I was helping another guildy last night.
