Please, balance and fix current classes, instead of making new broken or overpowered class!

I voted "bard" due most players want "druid" (I also do). I did not voted "Barbarian" because "GWF" is, right now, the most similar job as "barbarians" are. So, on this sense, i agree with Mjolnir: GWF class was a funny class pre mod4. After that...

Barbarian and GWF are different classes by D&D. Barb bursts of power through mighty rages, unusually high hit points, and excellent for absorbing damage.
GFW have high consistent damage output with extra attacks, wearing the best armors, they don't let people get away easily.

There seems to be a lot of confusion about the traditional D&D versions of monks, druids, barbarians and bards.
Remember: as far as this discussion goes then for all intents and purpose, the D&D versions came FIRST. Forget about what you think you know about these classes from other MMOs.

The D&D Monk was basically a skirmisher. The class was all about striking hard and fast, and then running away before their opponents could fully recover or retaliate. To help them do their job Monks had various skills/innate abilities that, as far as function goes, has changed little over the years. The general theme is that they're faster than most classes, have some kind of disable and they have various ways of dealing with spellcasters.
Sounds a lot like several rogue builds we have, doesn't it?
Story-wise, these are people who seek to "perfect" their bodies for some reason or another. Mostly this means that their bodies are living weapons.

The D&D Druid is a powerful spellcaster. D&D druids can shapeshift into various forms but mostly do so for utility purposes, and even when they're trying to melee down something using their shapeshifted forms they rely on persistent effect spells (spells that stick around during combat) to give them the upper hand. Those "watch me turn into a cat rogue/bear warrior"-type druids? Yeah, those are WoW druids. Forget those.
D&D Druids are spellcasters that combine control, nukes, summoning and support. Their strength mostly lies in their versatility, which allows them to overwhelm or simply weather out their opponents. In 4E they are controllers because traditionally druids have always lacked the powerful direct damage spells arcane casters had access to. In 5E they're some kind of controller/leader-type with some offense abilities.
Think CW except slower and with less burst damage. Flipside, they're potentially a lot tougher and can heal themselves and their allies.
Story-wise, druids are spellcasters who draw their magic from their surroundings. Obviously this makes them very protective of their territories/similar places, and their spells reflect this.

The D&D Barbarian is basically the GWF.
I have no idea why the devs should introduce another class that also uses rages and that also does massive melee damage while having above average survivability, except this one uses powers with different names.
Story-wise, they're hot-headed, proud tribal warriors who rage and kill things with melee weapons.

The D&D Bard is a jack-of-all-trades that specializes in buffs/debuffs. Over time the focus has shifted to it being a fighter/mage/thief with buffs/debuffs to it being a buff/debuffs specialist with fighting/magic/thieving capabilities (and vice versa). It has always been some combination of the three.
Story-wise, they are teachers, sages, artists and storytellers - essentially, bards use lore/knowledge as a weapon, which is why they know a little bit about everything, why they're very good at diplomacy/subterfuge/information gathering and why they usually prefer to act indirectly.
AFAIK, the closest thing Neverwinter has to this was the old DC, except it lacked the fighting/thieving part.

You there. New to the game? Feeling overwhelmed? Maybe you think getting to end-game is impossible for a casual player like yourself, or maybe you just need to be around a community that helps each other stay sane and competitive with the latest news, current trends, random chitchat and most of all LEGIT (that is, we try to keep things fair) gameplay. Oh no, Druids has pulled ahead again :(

Next class will be crappy HAMSTER Druid, another sad day for this game.
I may not be considered by most the BEST PVP Warlock on the server but, I am the most HATED amongst them.

I support replacing GWF with Barbarian. As well as fixing the Ranger class. Druid has to be the next class though. Bards need to be made another slot for, the supportive buffs they provide are sorely needed from what I have seen having played this game 6 months.

With Underdark beeing released on the 17th i assume no new class will be given this year :/

So only 1 Class per year Cryptic? Very low! No Monk or Druid coming up?

I dont mind having more. Thats what D&D is about realy.

In that case, bards have been in the game waaayyyyy before druids. There's the Harper NPCs and the Lillend. Some time ago they also released the promo Harper bard companion.

You could even argue that they were there before the Scourge Warlock. When Makos first came out, people were not really sure if he was a warlock or wizard. We believed he was a wizard for most of beta/mod 1, and this was likely retconned when SWs were released.
But bards have always been there.

I agree in that EQ did a tremendous job giving each class a unique feel and play style and also did a great job of giving classes more defined roles/uses in raid content.

If you add classes based on how many of each type we have in the game, and which types they have added in the past, then we can get roughly the following pattern:

    Dungeoneering (GF)
    Arcane (CW)
    Religion (DC)
    Thievery (TR)
    Dungeoneering (GWF)*
    Nature (HR)*
    Arcane (SW)
    Religion (OP)

*Aberrations from the general trend, and should be switched to make the following order:

    Dungeoneering (GF)
    Arcane (CW)
    Religion (DC)
    Thievery (TR)
    Nature (HR)
    Dungeoneering (GWF)
    Arcane (SW)
    Religion (OP)

This leaves a Thievery class up next, followed by a Nature class. Or, basically, a Bard followed by a Druid.

After that, we'd have two of each type in the game, and would start over with another fighter-type class.

I've voted for Druid because the are awesome, but my main is a GWF and i would really enjoy the change to Barbarian, replacing or moving some feats to build a all new class would be realy nice.
To avoid complains the actual GWF could recieve the option to change to GF or Barbarian...

But i'm almost sure that will not happen...
  • tantrumusmaximustantrumusmaximus Member Posts: 215 Arc User
Isnt the GWF kinda like the Barbarian in this game? Not critically accurate description but if you consider Unstoppable and how they run way ahead etc... they technically could have been called Barbarian from the start......

I think Druid would be the most "unlike" other classes we already have. There are so many versions of the d&d rules I am not up to date on the latest as the last time played on a table with books and dice was probably the 90's sometime. A nature centered class, even more so than the elven classes and some of the HR abilities would be welcomed. A power set that included camouflage, plant control (entangling roots aoe perhaps) and perhaps an animal form or ability to call animals for aid would be a nice basic concept for the druids. Not quite sure what a druid would use as an attack power perhaps fire balls? As an old COH player I loved the mastermind and their pets that did most of the fighting while the master called the shots.

What about a Crowdfunding project for the new Classes? I see many games integrating crowdfunding into game development and it defiantly looks good :)

Still waiting patiently for the bard class. Been waiting since beta so I don't mind waiting several months more.

Neverwinter needs to feel a bit more homey. I suppose this is part of the reason why we're getting strongholds and an increased emphasis on working with/cultivating a relationship with other players via teams/guilds/hopefully some type of classic tavern-esque feature, but that wouldn't be complete without the bard - the loremaster/storyteller/social interactions master of D&D.

Also, although I've gotten used to the new DC playstyles (which I admit feels a lot more DC-ish) I badly miss the old jack-of-all-trades, master of buffs/debuffs playstyle of the old DC, which coincidentally mirrors the playstyle of the bard class. That particular playstyle is absent from the game atm (Righteous comes close I suppose, if you trade offense for utility).

Granted I also wouldn't mind if they decided to add bards when they finally implement significant improvements to the foundry system (which is badly out of sync with the rest of the game atm).

The D&D druid plays similar to a renegade CW (mishmash of control, damage, leader-role heals/buffs) and the D&D monk plays similar to a scoundrel TR (fast, adaptable striker with stuns/dazes/knockdowns/etc) so nothing really new there playstyle-wise.

After the core classes are added, I definitely want to see the devs implement some of the more obscure classes. The binder, for example. Binder lore (pact magic, vestiges) would be an excellent addition to Neverwinter.

Binder would be nice, but it was 3.5e and I do not think has made it to the future editions - though shadowcaster, binder and truenamer would be sweet. I loved shadowcasting as opposed to a "standard" wizard or sorcerer; limited uses per day, but some sweet passives, like eventual immunity to poison, not having to eat, drink or breathe, etc. Monk and Bard are my faves from "core" classes, druid can be cool if they do it right, and not just make it Spellstorm CW with the serial numbers filed off and a few shape-shifts for gimmickry. I already have concepts for a Monk and a Bard, had a concept for pally, two for GWF (still like the class despite it's stumbles), two for CW, etc. Give me concept food for my classes, dammit!

Please make a sorcerer for us.
I like sorcerer class. i like Illius character in the demon stone who uses staff fighting, some martial art moves and magic at the same time. and he looks cool esspecialy with martial art moves (idk maybe i remember it wrong but he was using some open palm techniques which looks really cool on a mage). i'm not advertising but just play the game i mentioned before to see. so in this case make a magical shield at-will (which can use duelist flury mechanics) beside some close range staff fighting and long range magic projectile at-wills.
while at that i would like to have vampire race too, there r already sandesyl morgia and vampire drows. And race can have str+int or str+cha advantages with higher life steal, control bonus and resistance.

ps: demon stone's story-line also belongs to Mr. Salvatore (which is why it is so good)

Sorry to spoil yer fun, but at this time in the game i will have to say no to new classes/class. The game is so broken and filled with bugs that the devs should be concentrsting on fixing this games available content to the point that it will be satisfying to play. I play yes but not aday goes by something broken or bugged flys on my face. So please for the sake of the still playing and strugling playerbase, fix your game content before implementing anything new, unless it is more dungeons. Thank you. If there would be a new class id prefer a druid or a bard a melee/spellcaster, but the class mechanics are too lacking for these kinds of classes. In this game ya have only 1 full feat tree option or use 2 of them mixed. Where some other D&D games give you MUCH more options to create a class or a mix of classes. So at this point stick to fixing the content rather than creating anything new. Thank you and Merry coming Xmas to all, hope ya enjoy the winter festival.

He was a wizard, not a sorcerer, and his moveset had little to do with the class. Sorcerers are magic-users who have their power from blood, gained through some sort of magical infusion, etc, little to do with any kind of martial arts.

Personally, I want a Barbarian class. Barbarians are awesome, and few and fewer games now days have one, they just lump it into the fighter class, or simply do not have it.

Either a Bard class which uses crossbow as main hand or an Invoker class which uses staff as main hand would be great.

I would like to see a industrial era and a character that is mechanized like the wondrous gond Mount and runs on steam with dailies being associated with steam. Maybe scald enemies in immediate area for damage equal to weapon damage. Would like to see a steampunk race to associate with this class. Oh and for a weapon a blunderbuss that has the same range and damage as any of the hunter rangers bow.

Bard is the main Class I've been waiting on. While I've had fun playing in general, I almost feel as those were practice to learn the game and get used to the systems until the Bard comes out and I can actually 'focus main' something.

Soul knife.. absolutely love that class. Monk is pretty cool too but a soul knife is just dangerous.

I voted for Bard.. only because it seems Barbarian doesn't have a chance. I loooove Barbarians in both 4e and 5e. Bards are pretty cool too though and I'd be VERY curious to see how it would play out in Neverwinter.
