If, like me, you have any type of color blindness (approx. 8 - 10% of all males of European ancestry do) then you have more strain reading light text on a dark background - with the strain increasing in proportion to the color contrast.
The same holds true for people who suffer from most forms of astygmatism (i.e. lazy eye, etc.) This is in fact why monitor manufacturers switched up the format on CRTs back in the 1980s (if you're old enough you may remember the old green text on black background screens). Back then research clearly showed the visual strain this caused, and so the switch was made to create default white bg monitors with dark text.
I work at a big company designing training materials, and dark background/light text is a no-no, because we do work for the US Government, and there are regulations that also touch on the topic - not directly relevant here, unless Cryptic plans to start doing government contracts, but here's the reference: Section 508C of the US Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (Reauthorized). Any company that does have US govt contracts has to adhere to the guidelines.
For the folks who run this forum - I'm not aware of any law that requires you to make changes relevant to "disabled" user eye sensibilities - technically color blind people are in that category - but you do need to know the color format, cool as it may look, is demonstrably user-unfriendly.
Also, while we are talking about the forum page design - would it be too much to ask to have a direct "one-click" link from the forum to the corresponding game News page? Currently it takes me half a minute just to navigate and wait for all pages with video to load.

@randomdigits a workaround is to click FORUMS on the PC tab - then you get the direct link to the xbox sub pages.

What happened? Some "front-end" developer at cryptic just changed the forum skin and boasted how better stuff is just to justify his salary. It's obvious this theme is worse than the previous but who cares work is done and paid for!HAMSTER the customer!
Thats how the whole cryptic works from the devs to the front-end and why i stopped spending money.

What's your opinion? We're also making more changes.
So much wasted screen space. Please condense things and get rid of all the wasted real estate.

Oh yeah, anothe absolutely high-priority change to the forum looks, while the game...
*sigh* Like web designers and community staff members code video games.... yeah, like you'd really want that. The game developers do not work on the forums' technical issues, just like the web and community teams do not code the game.
We've added in a background as well that (in the future) will adjust based on the game forum that you are visiting. We're also looking to make sure that the background is fixed (i.e. scrolls with you) in order to break out from the dark background.

I'm trying to get from Forum to News, not from the Site home page to Forum.
The web designer didn't test on firefox. You can tell because text just goes right offscreen and there is no way to scroll in that direction. It's hardcoded to a fixed resolution or something.

While you're right, this doesn't make the apparent effect better.
And while we're at it: There's plenty of forum soft / providers out there that allow the user to configure the looks to their liking - some fully free, some among a bunch of preset styles, without having to resort to third-party plugins. Cryptic, ofc, didn't consider one of these, coz they know what's best and simply cannot resist forcing stuff on players, huh?
Sorry for the bile, but it's plain annoying and nothing else. Like anybody needs additional ribbons in the text, and fancy greyed in headers are a thing some people might like, but really not essential. Honestly, this all reminds me only, and absolutely only, of a "debate" style, where you suddenly attack the opposition from an unexpected, completely off-topic angle to the current point of debate. While all nice and fun in TV debates, it's cheap and detrimental to content progress (of the debate). But it works, and the public often thinks the opponent is lame / insecure / whatnot. Doh.
From a legibility and user-friendliness PoV: Get some different styles up - lotsa fancy ribbons like now in one, condensed and freely wrapping like we had before in another, black-on-white and white-on-black. Makes four styles, let the user choose which one to apply. Add as many others (like pink on cyan text for the completely spaced-out...)
...then we'd be talking "improvement".

..also even worse legibility, but a lot of fancy ribbons, and wider text. Without autowrap, sup.
Lesson otf the day: Even forums can be ninja-nerfed.
