Etiquette for starting a personal guild?

two30two30 Member, NW M9 Playtest Posts: 1,168 Arc User
Is there some magic or etiquette to making a personal guild?

With Strongholds imminent, I've decided to make a guild for my alts, but don't know the best way of doing so. I tried asking the following in Protector's Enclave zone chat a couple of times (waiting roughly three minutes between attempts): "I am making a personal guild for my alts and need brief help from 4 unguilded players. Any volunteers?" I received zero responses.

Is there a better way of going about this?

You could ask friends to help, or just keep asking over and over in Zone, you might get enough people together. I've started 5 guilds so far, and helped other started a few with alts, but every time it's been people asking me or me asking friends to help... the only time I asked openly to start a guild was when I started Greycloaks and that was within minutes of the start of Open Beta and 2 of the original founders were friends from the Alpha test phase anyway, so I only really need to pickup members. So, the first place to look is at your friends - maybe they have an alt they can lend to the cause? I won't be in game until later this week, but I'll be glad to help you out, just send me a mail @kvetchus_ if you are still having problems finding enough folks.

Honestly, Id try asking for ppl in channels (either public or private ones, which u may have access), other than LFG or Zone, where one can find more good-willing ppl than the afore mentioned. I believe that even asking in here (forums) may give u a better result. In any case, GL in ur endeavour.

Most of the people I see asking for temporary help to make a private guild offer to pay some fairly nominal fee like 5 gold. Mind you, I don't know how well this works.

Poke me for loan of an alt if you need. No charge!

Thanks for the advice. I have lots (and lots) of useless gold, so I'll try bribery. If that doesn't work, I'll pester some private channels.

Cryptic really should consider selling guild charters that would let players bypass the current inconveniences for starting a guild.

Gold works, standard is 5 gold but ive seen up to 10. It's not a lot but to new players its a free mount for a few minutes of time

Yeah... sweeten the pot - offer a few gold pieces for, what amounts to about 5 minutes of time. Just be sure to make it clear that these people will be kicked, once the guild is created.

FYI - you can do a /guild_invite to your alts even while you're online w/ another character.

Trying to find people for a personal guild too, no luck here either, offering 5g each. Not spamming through all channels, only asking every few minutes in PE.

So much for all those pro Strongholds sayers, that you "only" have to create your own guild... looks like there are not enough real players running around anymore for that.

There are more than BIS players in this game
RIP Real Tiamat, RIP Real Demogorgon RIP real Temple of the spider. Why remove non bis content to give to bis players ????
FORCING the majority of your player base to play 4 mod old dungeons and trial will have a bad result on player base
Changes are getting so bad i would rather prefer no new changes (RIP ICE FISHING in winter fest)

...if 5 gold doesn't work, try a stack of R4s...

I created my guild last night. However, I'm incompetent at juggling zone chat, party chat, tells and trades. Three of my helpers ran off without payment. The fourth was a brand new level 4 player, fresh off Sleeping Dragon Bridge, to whom I gratefully gave 10 gold.

Gratz @two30 and welcome to the extremely burdening and burocratic world of solo guilds. :P

So, you're saying that a guild with only one active player can viably participate in Stronghold and reap any rewards??? I ask because my guild (actually my son's guild of rl gaming friends), which began during beta, was over 40 players strong (60+ with alts) a couple years ago but has now dwindled down to just myself...many left the game when the new FF game came out and others left after new expansions. Some have returned to NWO, but only via Xbox, which is on a different server. Was thinking I would have to seek out a new guild to take part in Stronghold, but you're saying it's possible to take part as a solo player??

Ehhh... yes and no. There's stuff you can do to work on the Stronghold solo, but if you only play a single character, it's going to take you an enormously long time to scrape up the resources to make anything. If you have a bunch of alts in the guild, you can manage a bit more.

The Stronghold itself is a fixer-upper. I'm sure you know how much of a money pit those can be.

That said, my sig has a link for a motion to help people with small guilds achieve more.

If by taking part you mean "making a warlock alt named Bertha Mason and locking her in the attic until she burns the place down", then yes. That's one of my goals.

Actually, I have eight alts in the guild...one of each class (all level 70)...but I only actively play the five of them I most enjoy playing... TR, CW, HR, SW and OP. How can that help me in Stronghold?

Some of what you need for progression is earned by running daily missions. 5 characters running dailies can churn out more currency than 1.
