Have I hit a wall?

docterrydocterry Member Posts: 47 Arc User
First, let me admit I am not a great player, but I have advanced three characters to levels 68 and 69. I have over 4-million in Astral Diamonds and 6,000 Zen. All characters are equipped with excellent armour and weapons. My main character recently attempted three quests--and died in under 1 minute in each!
I realize that grouping with others would help, but I find grouping difficult to arrange--and prefer to solo.
I applied to join two guilds and was turned down by both--no explanation.

So my questions are:
Is the game designed to discourage solo players, perhaps forcing them to join a guild or form groups?
Has anyone else felt that they have hit a wall?

The game has definitely gone in a less solo friendly direction, and the new module is definitely furthering that notion. Mod 8 might help with that though.

The stuff you can improve doing solo are:

    1. enchantment/runestone. I think you need at least rank 8.
    2. Companion. Depends on the class, you may want an augment pet.
    3. Artifact
    4. Buff. Special potions, food item.

On the other hand, certain class may not be solo'able these days.

Don't start with the big guilds. Most are looking at ilvl, etc. Find a small guild running similar time frames you are that may be willing to help.

Managing 3 characters is very hard at end game. I would recommend picking a favorite and start with it. Once it's strong enough to solo grind and do epic dungeons you can consider working on a second toon.

reason why some guilds turn down or turn away. many were victims of bank clearing thief with program to overide the ranks, others may have capped on memberships.

Most guilds are also looking for lvl 70 members because going through leveling once is bad enough, having to help someone level up is even worse. I'd try again once you hit lvl 70. But then again, like Wylonus said, most guilds that can be taken seriously are already capped.

Players are basically pigeon holed into playing 1 class/character only.

Even if every player were given fully refined BiS gear they still would not be able to complete their boons for more than 3 maybe 4 characters/classes before they just gave up. And they plan on implementing new classes!?!

At least, they need to nerf xp needed, maybe half it. Then nerf mobs and boss, at least the ones from 61 to 69. HP-30% Damages -30% would be good. Then, most players would be able to solo (still with difficulty) 90% of the content without having to find a group.

If you are not 70, and you try iwd or wod, it is expected to be hard. After you hit 70, you will have much strong gear to choose. For certain classes, it will be OK to solo most of stuff.
So we need more information to give suggestions, and actually things matter after you get to 70. You are so close to 70, so just do some vigilance quests to get 70. Then we will see.

First of all, issues with soling are very class dependent. Now I have to ask you this. Why do you want to be in a guild, is it just for the access to gear, and help with areas. Or are you looking more for a group of people that you actually enjoy playing with?

There are a lot of "high end" guilds out there that you can ask to join, but they will not let you in unless you are "high end" yourself. Truly making friends in this game can be very difficult the way it is right now.

But if you really want to find some good people, who can help you out, who are fairly high end but not elitist then there are multi gaming guilds out there that you can join. There is a process to get in, but it doesn't cost you anything to apply. I will send you a PM about the one I am in, but I don't think it would be right for me to spam the forums here with advertisements for the guild.

PS. I think I sent you a PM. It's not showing that I have, but yeah. I'm much better at doing things in game then on these silly forums. If you haven't gotten anything from me, send me a tell that I'm a idiot and I'll send you the info on Grievance again.

Welcome to that famous wall.. im very familiar with it, ive been setting up camp there for some months now.
If you look closer its actually a square room, there is a door on the left with a sign *grind sharandar*. (again).
There is a door on the right that says *grind Dread Ring* (again).
On the back wall there is a nice picture with some writing of what was, of you in the glory days in IWD and WOD.. doing your thing SOLO.
And a story about an evil sorcerer called Modulus Sixius who placed a curse on Iwd and Wod, a vicious one.
This sorcerer has a brother called Modules Severus, it is said that only the worthy VIP and trained in ZEN mastery can oppose this evil.

I sincerely appreciate all the advice, and the offer of help.
This may sound stupid, but after reading all this I think that considering my abilities and playing style I have reached my limit.
I will continue to press my main character to level 70, but I think that I should move on to something else.

you could do IWD if you catch a "zerging" group in Icewind Pass and stay close with them, you have to make some hits and avoid dying, so you can collect black ice enchants, ice, and some gems along the way, so you might get some Xp from it.

If you have that much Zen/AD you really should invest into better gear.

There is no purpose to sitting with a lot of money in game. Unless you are saving up for something special you should be at around 0 money at all times.

You are not 70 yet, I assume you have not completed your boons yet, and since you have so much money unspent you probably have a lot of ways to improve your main character gearwise.

    * Get to 70 and get the free artifact weapon and offhand. If you can't handle Spinward Rise solo, team up with someone. There are always people in the same situation as yourself that want to team up.
    * Work on your boons. Again, if needed team up in IWD and WOD.
    * Spend those monies. There is no point in sitting on unspent money.

I know you want to solo, but in a few places you will need to do small groups to progress. It should not be a big deal, not like you are marrying someone, just group with them for 30 minutes to reach set goals until you are done with your boons.

Yes, he's up to his usual tricks. Now that I have him on ignore, he's started spamming other guild officers with the same "Hey, it's me :)" garbage. No need to post his handle, he's that well-known. It's only a shame I can't blacklist his handle so that he could *never* be admitted into the guild.

You haven't said what things you have tried to solo. You should be able to solo all of the vigilance stuff even if it is a bit boring. Once you hit 70 and have the artifacts you can do Sharandar and Dread Ring. Just leave IWD and Dwarf Valley till you have done some of the others. You can still solo all the instances even with terrible gear. I have one char of each class and rank 5's with 1.5k gear is ok for these. My personal next goal is Biggrin in IWD he is probably too hard for this gear but that's where I have got to. Some classes are harder than others in the new mod. For example GF and GWF are the easiest and HR and SW are the hardest at the moment.

I am in a simular position you are and believe the new VIP program with its xp boost might be the answer
There are more than BIS players in this game
RIP Real Tiamat, RIP Real Demogorgon RIP real Temple of the spider. Why remove non bis content to give to bis players ????
FORCING the majority of your player base to play 4 mod old dungeons and trial will have a bad result on player base
Changes are getting so bad i would rather prefer no new changes (RIP ICE FISHING in winter fest)
