You know I didn't know where to put this but I always whine about event drop rates etc. well I just happened to have 100+ aqua regia , so I thought well I'll go ahead and get a smouldering satchel and BAM got the codex for the companion! I guess there's a first time for everything but I'm sure I'll have to hold on to this victory for awhile LOL

No. Sorry it is not a victory to you. If you sell the aqua regia for 1k+ each during this event you can buy 2 Alchemist companions.

No. Sorry you're wrong. He traded 100 aqua regia and got the companion. 100 aqua regia are selling for about 80k and the companion is selling for 500k+.

Absolutely none of the exchanges are remotely worth it. You can sell any of the items on the auction house to buy the companion for many times less than trading for it. The only one that could be worth it is a gamble, and more then likely will cost more to get what you want than it is worth.
I think the vendor descriptions were perfectly clear. The OP made a mistake and lost some assets. It's no different to folks who sell valuable AH items to the vendor for a few silver. We have to take responsibility for our own actions.
I find the suggestion that Cryptic are trying to trick us quite ridiculous. This is not a new event. It has been run previously and they just re-used it, presumably to keep us interested while we await the delayed Mod 6. I spent a bit of time at the vendor trying to work out if there was any benefit or profit to be had. Like many others I concluded that the only really useful effect of the event was that we could sell Aqua Regia for decent money.

No. You are wrong! 100 aqua regia = 1 purify lead. 15 purify lead = 1 codex. You need 1500 aqua regia to get an Alchemist companion for sure. You can get lucky if you trade 1 purify lead for a satchel and get an Alchemist but you can also get lucky to use just 1 key on a lockbox and get a mount or better and this is against the odds.
BTW, aqua regia sold for over 1.2k each at the beginning of this event, not 800. It is always good to cash in early at almost every event.
The fact is the icon shows as green. If you go ahead with the deal because the icon is marked green and a purple asset is lost forever, that is a bait and switch, no matter what the fine print might say at the bottom. Intentional deception, plain and simple. Fix it. Now.

He used 100 Aqua regia to get one purified lead then he used one purified lead to get one smouldering satchel , then when he opened that he got the codex so he got the alchemist for 100 aqua regia or about 80-100k.

He did not trade 100 aqua regia for an Alchemist. He just got lucky with his 100 aqua regia. He could also open a lockbox and get a mount, a brilliant diamond or an artifact but he did not TRADE an enchanted key for millions of AD. He could also buy a real world lottery ticket for $1 and win $100 million but he would not trade $1 for $100 million. One need to realize what is a TRADE and what is just LUCK.
A TRADE in this event scenario without luck involved is 1500 aqua regia = 15 purified lead for = codex = Alchemist.

That's quite the ultimatum. The devs don't seem to be complying though. What threat were you going to carry out if they didn't? I always love reading these.

You said it wasn't a victory for him, but it was. He got a companion for 100 aqua regia which is worth more than selling the 100 aqua regia. I don't understand why you can't accept that. He was lucky and it was a victory for him. END OF.

I think you are just taking words out of context. Yes, he won some prize but he was lucky. I won't call it a "victory". If you insist on calling winning some prize out of some random events such as lottery and lockboxes, then please tell us you accept your DEFEAT when you lose AD on lockboxes. I bet players see more DEFEAT than "victories".
I'm thinking the two of you need to take a step back and take a long hard look at what you are bickering about.
Because you are mostly bickering about nothing. Just let it go and move on!

To me, this is not even an argument. The point about this thread as indicated by many other users was the event was not meaningful and worthy. Some called it a plot. Some talked about the luck. Just some (read, some, not the TWO of us, somehow different users or different users with different aliases keep using context which is not relevant to the true meaning of luck) tried to steer the topic to a different direction.
The fact remains future events should be more relevant to gameplay instead of reliance on luck or gimmack. Perhaps the next time if this event is brought up again, at least make the reward more relevant to the input of the players in term of AD cost and efforts instead of the the lockbox or lottery type. Also, it doesn't hurt to make the Crusible icons purple as a clearer indication that a purple asset instead of a green one is required to make a trade with the NPC vendor.

Hi, and welcome to "Gaming with PWE." You're new here I see.
The fact is, making things reliant on luck and RNG makes people have to do it more and typically makes them more inclined to do it again the more they've already lost (as surely their bad luck streak is going to end). This is never going to change. Ever.

I wholeheartedly agree with making the icons match the quality of item that needs to be turned in. That being said, the purpose of the event is to remove epic alchemy assets from circulation, while simultaneously encouraging people to buy more profession assets from the Zen store, via the "chance at alchemy items" promotion from buying profession packs.
I can tell you this much - to-date, the winter event, where you could buy parcels and got chances at better items as you bought more of them, got me to spend the most so far...
