Yes, this is hard question for me. Neverwinter is the first MMO I ever played, suffered my rogue PvE rogue from m1 to m5 grasping all those "Pet useless class" insults from our beloved control wizard till I rolled a SW for PvE and once PvE turned into easy pointles trash, I got involved into PvP despite I heard SW is an utter trash, which it is, in PvP. And now as I am reading patch notes and there is nothing bright ahead but a wall of darkness I am wondering why do I still play this. Logically everything points at it, I am depressed, I know every single power/feats that is broken that everyone abuses, my class is so easily counterable that I don't even know what to start with... It's like you're playing a card game and your oppnent openly cheats on you smiling and you can't do anything.
So my question is how do you quit an MMO? Note, I am not going to play another MMO, I am sick of this field just after playing Neverwinter, I won't endure another grind/lvling rush just simply can't. I thought moving from one contry to an another would fix it and even had like month break from NW and yet I am back here. Thanks for sharing your experience in advance.
the most desperate move I've seen which a few of my friends did is they gave away their items and deleted their characters. They did this at the point wherein their interest in the game is the lowest, this way if they ever feel coming back, they won't have anything to come back to.
you can also try some fps or moba games, which I think is a good way to refresh your gaming. I personally think moba and fps are less stressful than MMOs even when you're being stomped in a game because all those stress goes away once you log off, unlike MMOs wherein you know the problems still exist even when you're not in the game.
I only play at nights and I started playing a lot of a moba game lately, I play a few games until I get sleepy, that way I don't energy anymore to log in to NW anymore.

play less and more casual, its not like you lack gears.
i m having more fun since i started to do only a couple of pvp and a kessell/tiamat/elol to keep have something to refine
A giveaway is the best option to never come back, agree with koalazebraii. I've done it the same way with my previous mmo. Guildies were happy with tons of items + ingame currency and me too, never coming back to this ****ty mmo which I've heard is dead now anyways! xD
Hi guy's A.A here.
Giveaway/Delete wont work.
I deleted all my legendaries +huge give away when i quited 2 weeks before mod 3 release.
yet i was back mod 5, fresh start.
The real answer is :Bacon.
Or find better game/or real life.
May the Bacon Bless.
Dont you dare email me all ur enchants/and everything Mysery..I wont reply .
You May yet be Saved Misery..Im in this Drug adiction..since i was 5 years ( Arcade games/console/Play Station/PC (halflife/then CS 1.6 since 1999 (Status still playng cs 1.6 ) , and MMorpg's since 2004 ( Perfect world/Silkoard my first Mmo's) ,Once a Gamer , Always a gamer...But u still have a chance..to escape.
I share the same thing with you @vasdamas, that this is my real first MMO. Played a few before, but only installed them and had a few levels and back to off line games mostly, except strategic games, but got my nose full of them cause there you only see politics these days.
The desperation of not having better games or sadly other games are full of their own HAMSTER too helps a lot.
Once i was so pissed about my GF, that i quit the game, but only for a few days, cause in this genre you don't have a big variety of games to choose from.
Sure my love to DnD, which is kinda an addiction helps a lot, sadly i have to say, that i am in constant trouble with the rules and 1 class tree especially, which isn't in DnD at all.
Having a few hobbies helps too, like if you like to go out to mother nature and do some sports or if you like home made hobbies, then making your own music is a huge boost. If i get pissed off in the game (mostly PVP) i go and play a bit my guitar, it washes my head clean.
What is an odd thing, if i take a day off, PVP is the thing that brings me back, i love the action combat style of this game, a raw gem as we always say. If it only was a bit more balanced, ah...
Other point is many of us aren't really meant for an MMO of today's world, the constant trash talk in zone, the many ninja looters, cheaters and exploiters ruin the fun for me many times.
My own guilds help a lot, many times i don't even have time for my own things. I have to kinda go over to the alt guild to take a bit of fresh air. LOL
Making more toons helps too. The best thing to chill out is to level a new toon. This has the advantage too, that you always have a beloved toon, a class that the Devs currently favor. Cause as you could see it this part of the game is heavily a PR thing, each new Mod has it's own supported 2 classes, except a CW, it was and is always a good bet to have. Sure what i don't like, that 90% of the game is clones. You don't need to have top notch toons, forget the GS rush, solo play is really doable with low GS toons too and having a wide variety of them is pretty relaxing, you can always choose one and leave the troubled kid alone.
No need to over grind, i run most of my toons with CN or other T2.5 weapons and it still rocks. With a good build i can do more damage now on my TR, than those with artifact weapons. Many times i don't even like the Artifact Weapons, like on my poor GF, it has no recovery nor regen. So my only choice would have been to spend a lot on getting that regen from somewhere else. No way!
You don't have to bow before the boring grind. It is not elemental to enjoy the game to be in BiS gear. Sometimes a good build is better, then a BiS geared player with a broken build, saw that plenty of times in Tiamat, where a dude besides me had everything on defense and recovery and nothing to DPS. Not a rarity at all.
Brake the rules a bit. I mean the rules of having a min/maxed char. IT is a huge fun for me in PVP and a bigger satisfaction, that i run other then just a halfling. It is so boring, like having to watch Clone Wars over and over.
Last, but not least the advise my mom gave me, look at yourself and think, would you like to be all alone in your room, cut off from your friends or buddies. I think no. In today's world we don't have too many options, our lives are so much guided in a strict line, where we can't break out, that it eventually triggers bad feelings in everybody. One huge help is the web and that we can play on it, come good or bad weather, we don't have to get tip-top and present ourselves, we can sit to the monitor and play whenever we wish. And if you mix this with a good combo of taking a brake and going out an doing some outdoor activities, you can manage.
Avoid forums for a while, my personal favorite tactics! This place only triggers bad feelings and a sadness, that you are fighting against a wall, speaking to a wall, which you can't break through. It is like Don Quixote fighting against a wind mill. Seeing others problems doesn't help either. Yep delete all forum bookmarks and take a break from forums for a while, it does wonders!;)
P.S: I think buddy we all feel a bit like you, the endless and not rewarding grind is too repetitive for a human being and it can trigger sad feelings. This is definitely Cryptic's fault. They introduced weak Mods recently and tried to cover it with an endless grind, which is sad, cause DnD is the richest fantasy product, full of good ideas waiting to be implemented. Grind is not a Mod!
Try to hear some music in the background while you play, it does wonders for me.
Try out a different genre of game too, have a few other type of games on your PC too, the best game can become boring if you only play that.
Dear Misery, since you are a very nice asset to this game and a being with more intellectual power, pls don't even think about quitting, we would need actually more ones like you are!

The human race is a herd. Here we are, unique, eternal aspects of consciousness with an infinity of potential, and we have allowed ourselves to become an unthinking, unquestioning blob of conformity and uniformity. A herd. Once we concede to the herd mentality, we can be controlled and directed by a tiny few. And we are.

Try out some easy and relaxing types of games, a brainless shooter or a nice sports game is good, something where you don't need so much brain work and can really relax.
Deleting your toons and enchants isn't the way to go in my opinion. Did it, this is my second account and i regret losing everything i had back then. If you only take a short break and wish to come back later it hurts much to see the nice stuff you had and don't have anymore. Leave them on your account and you can re use them again if you wish.
Jesus i hope Cryptic sees such threads and they really should begin to think a bit, what tendencies are here.

Log on to a character , give away all your stuff to random people in PE, log off then delete that character , follow these steps on all your characters until nothing is left then log off close the client down and uninstall the game , if you miss the game go over to playing single player games like GTA , Elder scrolls , Dark souls etc.

open up control panel, and uninstall neverwinter. then remove these forums from your bookmarks and never look back agian
