Here is a small suggestion I came up with to renew interest in old players for old dungeons, as well as giving them incentive to run these dungeons. By introducing new..."modes" of old dungeons which are aimed at higher geared players.
Race the clock mode:
A mode whereby when the mode is selected, your team gets to race against the record set by the team that completed the dungeon fastest, if you lose, your team gets evicted from the dungeon and you fail, but if you win you have a choice of select loot which is far better then the loot table of the base dungeon. This mode would create competition between PVE orientated players and revitalise interest into the game's PVE content. A less intense version of this mode could be racing against a demanding timer for completing a dungeon, say 25 min timer for CN, with a better loot table assuming you succeed at the last boss, rather then racing against the best time anyone has ever set. Whilst this mode is selected, if you racing against the fastest time set by players, then the player names and their time to completion should be displayed as an objective in your quest section...just to boost their epeen
Scale difficulty mode:
A mode whereby the toughness of the monsters is scaled to the gear of the member in the group with the highest gear score, using some approximate estimates for how strong monsters should be to challenge a team of 5 players with gear equivalent to the team member with the highest gear score. Whilst I am aware gear score is in no way an indication of skill or the usefulness of a particular role in the dungeon, it is the only mildly effective way without keeping a really good database on every single player of how to scale dungeon difficulty progressively. The scaling of difficulty could be done off of 1k gs increments, where the difficulty is increased for each 1k gear score the player with the highest gear score has. For each tier higher the dungeon is, the better the loot table should be for the entire dungeon.
Set gear mode:
In this mode players gear, whilst in the dungeon would be automatically swapped out and replaced with gear templates which they will only have in this mode, the gear giving them a gear score which one would have if they only just surpassed the gear score required to enter. In addition to this, all their boons would be ignored from the various campaigns whilst inside. This mode would make it easier for players to get the..."vanilla dungeon experience," without having to manually find gear to use that puts them in the same condition. In addition, the loot table should also be slightly more relevant when a dungeon is completed in this mode, as hardly anyone ever does dungeons with the bare minimum gear score required and this mode, if rewarding, would create the incentive to do so.
And lastly...solo mode: Whereby a player can queue into a solo version of the dungeon, even if there is a rubbish loot table, just so they can challenge themselves.
