Have you actually performed traceroutes and such? Refer to the lag and rubberbanding sticky.

I've been experiencing some rubberbanding/server not responding issues recently too. Cogneto again? Or whatever their name is

Since the patch I get 'cannot contact account server' errors about 2 or 3 times per day, when switching chars. No lag otherwise, and no disconnects that I cannot explain. Not complaining, it doesn't bother me. Just telling in case it helps anyone. If not, just ignore. =)

If it matters, I am on the east central US, in the middle of the woods where I never see other humans. It doesn't get more backwoods or off the beaten path than this.. without heading to the saltflats or the Dakotas. -But somehow my fellow po-dunks keep it together. XD

Just having a laugh, don't get uptight.

That must be a really silent place.

I'm in SW Michigan (I love our forests!) and I've never been hopped through Cogentco. I am on Comcast though, with their fastest residential speed and unlimited bandwith. The only times I have connection issues with Cryptic Games is when it is clearly server issues. I've had a stellar connection all day.

Lot on your knife.. Lots of gunfire in the distance, and sometimes you hear them playing with explosives. And the foxes scream in the early early morning.. sounds like some woman getting murdered. But yeah, otherwise it is really nice. Except for the tornados, and the occasional manhunt for an escaped convict (for some reason they seem to gravitate here.. bad idea.)

And just to be clear.. I live here in the boonies.. but I'm from Philly, yo? =D

Interesting, you might be more south than me or something then, as I'm almost always routed thru a cogentco router, does your path take you thru Chicago instead of Detroit first?

I'll check tomorrow as I've shut down my pc for the night already. I usually get hopped down to Indianapolis and then west to Cali. I surely don't go through Detroit though, as that's on the opposite side of the State. I'm about 20 mins east of Lake Michigan and about 10 mins north of Indiana.

Hate to break it to you but that is so irrelevant (shouldn't be, but it is.) I've seen people routed interstate by way of U.K. (not in a long time, but Detroit is not farfetched for you.) XD

Yup, I'm a little north of you, in GR, but I'm always put thru the metro Detroit region, I almost always get a router in pontiac when I have internet issues.

This is the router I'm talking about

Oh I know. I've been hopped down clear over to the UK, through Russia, into China and then back through the States. But craziness like that's only been when it's obvious that the cause is downed relay stations/ISP hubs. Just meant that I rarely get hopped through Detroit when connecting to Cryptic.

My sister was a network technician and administrator and worked for an ISP, so I've learned a great deal on how crazy the internet route can take and why connection issues are rarely due to the end point but are usually always something in between or even user error.

Roger that. Been working in that capacity since 1998, and have seen some crazy stuff.

Oh well, still better than the mess in megapolis, I'd get over that just to see people less.

Today, I am getting hopped down into South Bend IN, then through Chicago IL, further through Illinois on some unspecified Comcast IPs and then through a two more Comcast hops that are on their Business Network that I cannot tell where they are at, and finally into Los Gatos CA, and ending at the Cryptic patchserver. I never leave Comcast's network until I hit Cryptic.

I did run this earlier but got company and and didn't save the results, however I did notice that just prior to reaching California, I got hopped through a single Cogentco network. When I ran the test again, that hop mysteriously vanished.

Most all connection issues lately point to Verizon*, not the game. All you can do is complain to your ISP about being throttled by Verizon or contact your Government Leaders while looking into the "Net Neutrality" movement. Switching ISP probably won't help, as from your location, you'd probably still be hopped through Cogentco, who allegedly gets throttled by Verizon. The only way to resolve it "now" is to move so close to the game servers that you won't have a chance of being hopped through Cogentco's network that allegedly gets throttled by Verizon and in turn Verizon allegedly forces ISPs pay them more money to not do this to them. This is why there is a lot of polictical and legal debates around the World, loosely termed as the "Net Neutrality" movement to try and put a stop to these ISPs from controlling the Internet in such a malicious way.

*Do note, we often lay blame on Cogentco when the alleged culprit is Verizon as Cogentco is a Bandwith Distributor that is allegedly being forced to either pay loads of money to Verizon and if they don't, Verizon allegedly throttles users on their networks. Keep informed and read up on "Net Neutrality."
