Where did you see this ? don't see it going down well considering it's well known a number of people used the resonator thing extensively but never got caught , it's like cryptic wants to reward such people . No doubt a couple of legit people will be in with a shot , I hope they are the ones who end up getting it .

You are right they have not caught these players in fact I think I saw one of them in PE yesterday.
I think the economy is what it is. Its broken beyond repair underneath but AD sinks like these will still help the appearance of stability...at least temporarily in the ZAX

Of course it is going to HAMSTER off an awful lot of legitimate players that such an auction is almost certain to be won by those 'lucky' enough to have insane amounts of AD, but such events do provide a massive AD sink which is a good thing. If this drains a lot of AD from the economy perhaps Cryptic could consider having them regularly.
The only thing I would like to add is that I hope the Companion is in a Bound to Account box and the actual companion inside Bound on Pickup, so that whoever wins it can't just trade it later on to make even more AD.
As an aide the ZAX has been going down slowly over the last few days - it is a million or so off its peak on the 15th, so a slow fall of perhaps a couple of hundred thousand ZEN a day. At this rate in a month and a half we might have the backlog entirely disappear....
In answer to where I saw this, on the preview server, it's an event on the calendar.
Is this BoE or BoA on collection?
Otherwise by far the most likely outcome is for it to be won by exploiters or goldsellers so that they can just flip it later to make even more AD. I doubt very much that either of these scenarios would sit well with normal players....
It might be wise to have a buyout value at the AH cap to prevent either of these.

Yes, just please make him Bind on Account.
As stated in the contract, Sgt. Knox has agreed to aid the individual, not be bought and passed around like a rented mule.
If someone wants to bid for Sgt. Knox, then they should be doing it for their own account, and not to profit off of.
I'm so sad that only those very rich will win this..
No way casual player have even the slightest chance to have Knox accompanying you.. There you go people.. you with all your novelty HAMSTER! GRRRrrRRrRrR hate you guys xD
Kinda wished i had seen Rhix everyday for reporting my dailies now instead of the L button... probably can snuggle me one that way :x
1) Only available to the very richest players when there has just been a massive AD exploit.
2) Sold on the AH to highest bid where it is incredibly hard for ordinary players to win as they always seem to be mysteriously outbid by 'others' who can somehow do all the actions needed to win in a fraction of a second.
3) Bind-on-Equip so that the 'lucky' buyer can resell it to get even richer...
Making the Knox companion BoA wouldn't solve 1 and 2, but at least it would mitigate 3).....

1) It was NOT recent. It was recently REVEALED.
2) Agreed, it will only lead to frustration to a lot of players and reward to less than five
3) And what type of player do you think will benefit from it? Are we calling them "lucky" again?

It's a nice companion. But, really, it's just a 'defender'. The skull has funny things to say, and doesn't require an exploit to afford. When you see someone with a Knox in the future, just flip 'em the bird, and put 'em on 'ignore' immediately. Or spam report them.
Perhaps this could simply be just another marketing swerve. Maybe the plan is to offer it, bilk the top 0.5% out of their Zen. Then offer it as a cheap or free companion two months later.
I don't get this anyways , isn't the maximum AD on any account 100 million? if it is then removing 500 million isn't really going to make a dent in the economy and on top of that won't the five just get instant bids for 100 million making it impossible for anybody to outbid whoever bids first?

Absolutely right. Won't be an 'auction' at all.
It just goes to show you how ignorant/out-of-touch some of the devs are with the current game world and playerbase.

Removing 500 million AD is basically removing the equivalent pressure of (at least) 1 million ZEN if you think about it.
I hope the final winning price is something like 500,000,000 AD or something.
Why? Because unlike the chicken eggs mentioned by OP, this is a genuine sink (Chicken Eggs only transferred AD from one player to another player minus AH fees). In this case the items are not sold by any players, but by the game Studio itself - which mean the winning bids will send all that AD into a black hole.
Everyone is complaining about the inflation of AD that there's too much AD in game and demanding Cryptic do something about it. Well, they are; they're doing THIS. There will be only five of these so you chances of winning one are a thousand times worse than a snowball's chance in hell.
Sure, they might be bought and resold in the AH, but the fact is the initial sink of AD could be massive and that AD is completely removed from the game. If resold it will be purchase with AD still existing in game (or recently farmed).
So, yeah... who cares who wins? We already know we won't So may as well hope for them selling at astronomical prices.

Angrysprite, I completely agree with the above.
Also, it is going to be a very hard item to make a profit from if you resell it.
First, it's going to go for some ridiculous price. If someone really wants it, they're going to pay top dollar for it during this auction. However, if post auction they want to resell it:
a) It's going to be extremely hard to find another buyer and
b) With the 10% AH cut, it's going to be hard to find that buyer AND make a profit.
The chances of you finding someone to buy Sgt. Knox who 1) wants it 2) has enough AD and 3) missed the opportunity to bid during the event is going to be infinitesimally small.
In other words, winning Sgt. Knox in order to profit is an extremely risking and likely money-losing proposition.
I hope the final winning price is something like 500,000,000 AD or something.

Given that the maximum AD you can have on a single character is 100 million then I would be surprised if even in this hyper-inflationary economy that someone was able to buy the companion for 500 million.
Also the real worry is that if it is BoE, 'lucky' people or gold-sellers will buy them and then trade / sell for real money it for far more in terms of other items or real cash.
So AD will be removed form the system which is really nice. However the people who are the most likely to benefit most are the lucky players or gold-sellers.
It was, so not sure what Sprite is saying, the initial purchase should of been a good sink, then the AH trades took out 10% so added more to the sink... But I agree with him this is a good sink. Will probably remove a nice chunk of AD, exploited or not. And if it goes for huge #s itll be hard to resell.
And if our complaining help lead to this. I see our complaining as beneficial.

Disagree a LITTLE bit. Your points are valid but remember, the max AD per character is 100mil.
Some of these shady players who are still unbanned have BILLIONS of diamonds. Not exaggerating. I guess the potential of cleaning up the economy 100mil at a time is good?

Plus, what happens if you put in a 100M bid? If ADs are not a problem and we now for some it's not due to exploits, I'd just bid the max and grab my Knox.

People say some characters have 'billions' of AD. Cool. What's 100M AD to such a player? *nothing*
I guess Knox is the Black American Express Card of Neverwinter. Or the Learjet, etc.
They don't need to re-sell. It'll just be that extra 'bling' that says "I've got one, and you don't".
Don't get upset. It happens. It's actually very *real world*. Show of hands, who has a gold plated iphone or HTC One? They exist, in case you're wondering.
The rest of us will have to live with our laughing skulls, war dogs, etc.
