Word of Warning about Black Ice Profession

OK. So I set off to craft some purified Black Ice Boots for my TR. I was wearing Black Ice Boots (purchased from the vendor weeks before) I had a Rank 7 Dark Enchantment in them for the speed increase.

I collected all the required components for the recipe, removed my black Ice Boots and engaged the profession and waited 18 hours. Log in the next day, my Purified Black Ice Boots are ready. Put them on, and voila, no Rank 7 Dark Enchantment. Just an empty slot.

How do I get my Rank 7 Dark Enchantment back?

Don't do the same thing I did. If you use your own boots, remove the enchantments before you send them off to be purified. They will come back with an empty slot.

We brought this up during testing and suggested that they either make a pop up window or at least add red warning text to the task ,sad to see they took no notice.

Ignore rude answers. Upgrading gear with enchants embedded has always given less than desirable results. They should put something in the task to say REMOVE ALL ENCHANTMENTS. But yeah, submit a ticket and maybe you will get lucky, but I doubt it. And even if you do, they would just roll your character back, most likely and you might not want that.

Chances are that you are just going to have to write it off as lesson learned. Sorry that happened.

It is sad. I am glad I at least did my part to warn my friends not to do what I did. Its too bad Cryptic doesn't do the same, even if the code is too complicated to fix this from happening in the future. At least a warning guys....c'mon.

Basically their recipe should just NOT work if an item has an enchant in it, problem solved. It forces you to take it out first.

You shouldn't put enchants in what's useless gear to begin with but of course it's their fault not not at least warning you =/.

Interesting that they went the extra step of not allowing you to sell an item without knowing it was enchanted, but did not do the same during crafting.

This is one of a vast number of things that go wrong when you build a game hell bent on trying to not use any of the tried and true MMO elements (aside from the actual content, which is as generic of MMO content you can find....perhaps even more so). The elements are tried and true for a reason...they work.

I'll give a bit of credit for the crafting system...but not much. The cooldown for crafting should be AFTER you crafted an item (the slot gets the cooldown and cant be used for X hours) not before so you have to wait for the results. As it stands, you will outlevel your item in the multiple hours it takes for you to craft something for them.

They give a warning about putting Companions in storage and automatically
strip the magic items. A pop up here shouldn't be too much to hope for.

All Neverwinter upgrade crafting has always consumed the base item, destroying it and producing an entirely new item you receive when it's done.

It's too bad you lost your enchant, but that is how it works, not just with the Black Ice Shaping.

In all honesty, I don't really know of any game with crafting in which it doesn't work this way when previously used items are created.

Bingo. This is the way it pretty much always works. It doesn't improve your item, it consumes it, and gives you a new one in return. So its not just socketed gems, but it will also destroy dyes and appearance changes as well.

I lost some lvl7 enchantments doing the same with "reinforced" t2 gloves some long time ago :)

should be obvious that you will lose the enchantment, but since there is no warning it is really easy to forget to take it out or just not think of it at all.
