(Much like my Happy Meal :) )

Was under the impression it was reusable after a time, no?
Is it more like fireworks, then?

Oh. Side note: Finding the 'Specials' under Professions... Thinking a lot of players
will never have found those. Event this complex needed an actual Blueprint.
Did you really think anyone could steal the power of the god of thieves?

Those Specials are not worth it with the current prices of Iron Ore, Simple Pelts, Pine Wood, Wool Scraps, etc.

You forget that in the PnP there are also 'myriad' ways to be immune against profane or magic weapons. Which is non existant here.
Suggestions to improve NW:
- Dualspec
- Better rewarding foundry and foundry pvp maps
- Custom PvP leagues with leaderboards instead of the current 'matchmaking'.
- Armory
- make jumping cost stamina (to reduce hopping in pvp)

This event is however great for those that want to farm to sell the grommets. I made 300k tonight from grommets and got about 200 rank 4 enchants while I was doing so along with a bunch of blues to save for the new artifacts and greens to sell for gold. It's going to be a very profitable weekend if this keeps up.

4 questions about the purple level doohickey:

Can anyone tell me if the doohickey (epic purple status) is a permanent item? or one-time use only and poofs?

Is it character bound, or account-wide?

Does it act as an item slot (like a potion or pocket pet), or does it go in the artifact slot?

What does the doohickey do when you activate it (animation wise) - shoot lazers or rockets? or what?

Is there a difference in appearance between expendable and non-expendable version? is one bigger than the other... etc?

Lastly, give me your opinion as to whether it is worth it to get (in terms of it's stats/abilities/damage/CD, etc)....

I have a question

It shows the doohickey on some places, it floats over them.

I have one and it does not show or float.

How do I enable this effect?

kind regards

Kind of looking at this event in the same way. It isnt a terrible event. But It definitely wasnt made in mind for all.

Just to get a rank 6 to rank 7(doohicky). 12000 RP. 5 RP per grom drop. Thats 2400 grom drops not including any crits. With the drops being time restricted, meaning no matter how many mobs you kill you only get 1 drop every 25-30 sec.

It would take you approx 16 hours nonstop farming to get from rank6 to rank7. This doesnt include rank 1 to rank 6 or rank 4 if you can craft it to rank 6.

This event is definitely not aimed at casual players or f2p players, its not effecting the AD backlog at all, it says a good chance? wth is a good chance 3% since lockboxes are like 1%?

Idk about this.. Seems more like a zen event. It feels like they are running alot of zen events to recoup the development cost on the console and Mod4 or something.

Yeah, I'm gettin real sick of these time-restricted farm events where you'd have to literally play the entire 3-4 days straight to get just a few of the event items...

The only reason they even do this is because the bots will farm more than anybody (obviously). This is just punishing all clients equally as if all were bots.

All this is for most players is just a chance to profit in AD by selling normally worthless stuff at bloated prices. (not to mention the blueprints)

So what does it do exactly?

Blast target (and small AOE radius) for 3200 every 30 seconds or so (it can crit). It will be highly sought after for PVP toons, it's basically an extra offensive skill.

You need to make or buy one for each character, by the way.

It says does 2,451 damage on target and nearby enemies, and recharges for 30 seconds. And if it can crit, thats around possibly 4k damage every 30 seconds.

But, why do you say this item is selling at around 1.4 mill (lowest) on the AH currently? It doesn't seem OP to me... nor worth 1.4 mill AD; A regular at-will attack can outdamage this doohickey by far and at-wills don't have cool down. Are you saying it's sought out in pvp because it will make the difference between win/lose in close matches? What to you justifies the price of the doohickey?

Btw... what kind of blast does this look like...? Rockets? Bullets? Lazers? please explain.

People are buying them for 1.1k zen + mats and posting them on AH, they will sell for much more than 2m after the event, I assure you. The damage from this attack is not worse than at wills, if you'd even bother to read any of the tooltips you'd see their base damage is much lower. 3200-3500 is a pretty decent burst attack, especially since it can crit and hit multiple targets. Also 30 seconds is a relatively short cooldown for items such as this, it will make the difference multiple times a match, I suspect. (especially if it has a quick animation/cast time)

I would compare the attack to a CW's chill strike on tab but a little weaker and with a smaller AOE radius. As for the GFX, I have no idea, I haven't see them used yet.

Why would i compare base damage of at-wills to the doohickey damage? When you are in battle, you use every buff/feat/etc you have, and thats why i question why ppl would pay so much for the doohickey (except for the obvious reason that it takes a long time to grind out for free, or pay $11 bucks for it). To me, it seems like it's a luxury item priced for the ppl with tons of AD to flush out and spend. As for people on a budget or newcomer players... thats a different story.

And thx for the description, that helps.

You said it yourself, they use everything at their disposal, this is just one more thing in the bag of tricks (especially if it's quick, like I said).

This could have been the ultimate AD sink for the game, if you had only put the blueprints up for like 70-80k in the wonderous bazar, this could imo more or less have cleared the backlog of zen offers... Instead you made the ultimate get richer than you already are for all the people with the Means to buy stuff and flip it on the AH! I made around 3-4 million ad myself just selling blueprints, they more or less sold faster than i could put em up, so guess i cant complain...

Do Cryptic want an AD sink though? It could be that since the exchange topped out, they are selling more Zen, and therefore making more profits. As player unfriendly as it is, it could well be that the current state of affairs is in fact better for the game in that respect - More money being earned, equals more money invested in it, equals more content for the end user.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

I'll be nice and post this again.

1 W. grommet = 5RP

1 W. cog needs 20 RP + 10 iron ores [100% chance]

1 W. sprocket needs 60 RP + 10 iron ore + 5 simple pelts [95% chance]

1 W. gadget needs 180 RP + 20 iron ore + 50 charcoal + 10 wool scraps [90% chance]

1 W. gizmo needs 810 RP + 50 simple pelt + 90 spool of thread + 50 solvent [85% chance]

1 W. thingamabob needs 3240 RP + 25 pine wood + 50 iron ore + 50 simple pelt [80% chance]

1 Doohickey needs 12960 RP + 50 pine wood + 90 iron ore + 90 spool of thread +90 wool scrap [75% chance???] - did not try

Total RP needed = 17270 RP = 3454 grommets = 9.6 blueprints (about 10) = 1100 Zen

Thanks for the info, radtatat.

So to summarize, to make a doohickey from scratch we need

50 charcoal
50 solvent
90 spool of thread

and

180 iron ore
105 simple pelts
100 wool scraps
75 pine wood

and

17270 RP = 3454 grommets = 9.6 blueprints (about 10) = 1100 Zen

I quite like this event, made quite a tidy package :)

A little tip for the cheap people who want some profit. The level 1 gathering tasks, particularly the 10min ones allow you to currently make more ad in 1 hour than leadership in 12. Leadership makes rough AD and is known for its AD generation.

Btw I doubt that the mount has the same drop rate as the lockboxes, the packs cost a lot to make and it does say a high chance (over exaggerated). I only opened 10 on preview and got 1 on my 3rd one I opened. Obviously it's a limited sample that hardly is conclusive. The gond artifact however probably is lockbox rates. If anyone gets that they'll be quids in. Mostly got greater refinement stones and leadership/black ice packs.

Ok so I finally saw someone use it in my party several times. It doesn't even fly around like a helicopter shown the event booth... it stays in your pocket hidden, until you press the button and your character just chucks it like a piece of junk/grenade at the enemy... wtf. I was disappointed. No flying helicopter animation... no CW chill strike laser like you mentioned... just a piece of trash tossed at the enemy with a tiny HAMSTER explosion.

Second observation, the person who threw it was getting crits as you said, mainly at 4k range, but sometimes exceeding that going at 5-5.7k damage per enemy (so x 5 enemies in AoE splash = 25k damage total). I'm wondering if this doohickey has an unmentioned damage range? Because the tool tip says 2,451 damage flat (no range). The person using it suggested perhaps it scales with your own characters power stat...? Can someone confirm this ?

rayrdan wrote: »

I think you're right, the range on the toss of it is short-range. The person in the party that was using it was a TR. I think it's good for TR's because they have few splash damage attacks, but other classes don't need this so much.

. . . A bit off topic but the latest replies got my nostalgia going; My first world I DMd was AD&D Hollow World (boxed set), it wasn't long before made the world into the Realms (I kept the Hollow World intact as a DM's addition to the setting). I later incorporated all the D&D campaigns (except Birthright) in my Campaign. Al-Quadim was easy, as it already exists in the world (southern continent south of Chult). Same with Kara-Tur. Planescape and Spelljammer were also easy additions as the framework for them already existed (SJ ports have existed in the Realm's lore for thousands of its years and well, there's portals all over creation to the Planes). I then later decided to allow my players to find ways to travel to Krynn, Oerith, and Athas.

. . . The first Campaign I ever played in, some years before starting to DM, was Dragonlance. My best friend DM's Greyhawk, another friend DMs Dark Sun, and my other best friend DMs a world of his own creation. I've also played in Raveloft and Spelljammer campaigns before. Never got to play in a full-Planescape campaign though. There was one time when a couple players decided to go to Orith and my best friend who DMs it didn't want his character to go there, so I let the other two go and to their surprise, I started rolling up a character as my best friend took the DM seat. ;)

P.S. my character in his (GH) campaign is now an NPC :( ... but she's Queen of her own city, Forhappeningsful. Don't ask!

I like you, zebular. You seem more "human" that the typical forum moderator. :)

Not a huge fan of RND (looking @Wildstar) I do not mind a bit of a grind however I like grinding for a specific item like in the summer and winter festivals. Also looking at the numbers people have been crunching of how many cogs needed to get the LVL 7 item it seems to me that the creators had to know how outrageous it was and did not give a care and then threw a RND at the end of it. Holy cats! I guess they figured people would just throw zen at it.

I hope this is not the future of mini events. I also hope that the zen made off this event will satisfy the company and they can get back to producing fun events as they have in the past.

I like the event but it involves too much grind if you don't want to buy Blueprints ,its also a shame it is yet another event that allows zen spenders to gouge non spenders but whatever , has anybody found out the approx drop rate of the mount yet?it says it has a 'high chance at dropping' , if not I'll transfer over to preview a few dozen times and get a rough estimate when I get in this afternoon.
