Its through the quest you can open as you unlock the Hook Line and Sinker in the Campaign window.

Once you get it to level 3, it unlocks a mini skirmish and sometimes the Yeti you kill in the there drops a Yeti Treat.

You then feed this to the caged yeti in the Bar area and you can gain him as a pet.

    LOL Funny.
'cept April Fools was a month ago. And too many were actually angry at how they were so 'fooled' into deleting a character to make room for that playable dragon. PRO TIP to anyone thinking about it: don't go buying additional Companion Active slots just for this thing until you actually have him in your inventory.

Dunno what gives you that idea , the yeti in the cage in the bar is the pet you can win , in the need for mead instance a rampaging yeti spawns at the end that you kill and get a yeti treat from then on exiting the instance you offer the treat to the baby yeti and have a chance that he will follow you , it's also in the companion collection list.

Note the PRO TIP I mean that sincerely. It doesn't matter if it was on preview, no one knows when, or if it will ever make it to live. I remember seeing some awesome stuff on Alpha that *still* has yet to see the light of day on live (I won't hold my breath). And I never said it was a "joke", have I? I do not see that word used at all in my comment and I have not edited there, soooooo...

    Go figure.

It's in the companion collections screen, the npc tells you how to obtain him (by feeding him a yeti treat). When you interact with the young yeti in the cage, it tells you he requires a yeti treat.

    Okay, fair enough.
As for what gives me the idea: the wiki page linked to is painfully incomplete. Though there is nothing in my original comment that is untrue, is there? :)

Fair enough on your comment, too. I'm not in-game to be able to peruse the Collections page. Just forum-surfing right now. And I reiterate my "nothing untrue" statement previous. :)

    Yes.
    You can.
Up until you reach level 60, then you cannot buy them.

Just to clarify why he means: You can only have 5 active slots. As you level, the locked ones will unlock and the last one unlocks at 60. If you want, you can buy the slots and unlock them early. Idle slots are an entirely different thing and have their own unlock item in the cash shop.

I know but you have to be 60 to go to icewind so that's moot. You can't buy any extra ontop of that.

I sincerely hope that the devs have fixed the bug for this yeti pet .
There were a few people in preview that got the yeti to spawn in the need for mead quest .
The yeti then dropped the treat , but when the treat was presented to the caged yeti pet it REFUSED the treat .
I really hope that this time there are NO more reports of the pet refusing the treat .............

Probably not but they still have a couple of weeks to do so. They have a lot of bugs to fix. Guess a first time bugless release was too much to ask for.

    Wow... the drama! LOL

Okay - the OP was asking, the initial answers looked like joking (no mention of Icewind Dale or Preview server) - hence my response. Since there was no mention of Icewind Dale, assumption in my comment was: before hitting 60 - don't purchase active slots just for this thing.

A lot of you people need to 1) Stop taking things so seriously and 2) stop taking things so personally.

I still stand by my original comment. Of course you are welcomed to take it as you wish, but that does not mean you are taking it how it was intended. And, for the record, I am still laughing here. :)

I hate to say it, it is working as intended. Yes you have to have the rare yeti spawn, then you have to have it drop the treat, and finally the young yeit has to find the offering acceptable. GOGOGO RNG from hell. lol.

Sorry , but if it is working as intended and having to go through 3 rounds of RNG then the pet should be a legendary status and NOT a green pet .
That is a complete joke in my opinion .

Isn't the Rampaging yeti that drops the treat supposed to spawn every time you run the instance? it did for me after the fix and it also dropped the yeti treat every time too , the baby yeti just refused to take it though .

No it does not spawn everytime. One of the last builds we got stated they improved the logic to the Yeti spawning in the Need for Mead.

When it has spawned for me it replaces one of the normal waves.

And what the young yeti says is the yeti is unimpressed with your offering. And it gone from your inventory.
