I have made it quite clear that I don't think PVP should be a part of this game. It is not consistent with D&D lore or the entire spirit of D&D itself.
Have you actually read the books the game is based on? Have you actually done tabletop? Have you not played a chaotic evil character therein? PVP in the sense of hero player character vs villain player character has always been a large part of D&D.
On to the OP....
I think, really, all we are seeking is the ability to create a private PVP match with custom rules, and invite the other 9 people, as one can in STO. This would be wholly separate from the queue system by need, and no glory would be rewarded, to avoid exploitation.
Both time, and points to win could be configured, as well as the map to play on.
This would allow, for example, a timed match with no point limit, point leader team when time runs out wins.
This would also address how... clunky it is currently to get a premade vs premade match going. Instead of waiting for both queues to pop, just invite everyone to the private match.
If this is the amount of consideration you show for this handful of players, then expect nothing but merciless pugstomping when they meet you in PvP.
I do the majority of my PvP solo queue. But when the 1v1s come out that inevitably do, I win the large majority of them even vs players with r9/r10s. Sure they win the match, but I'm the one doing the stomping most the time.
Significantly shorter matches compared to 1+ hour matches doesn't hurt most of the hardcore PvPers while simultaneously benefiting the large majority of pugs by removing one of the largest reasons people afk in the campfire in the first place. If people expect to lose, they would rather it take 5 minutes instead of 25 minutes.
The way I see it, the hardcore PvPers that don't want match times reduced, feel this way because they don't want pugs to fight back. They enjoy these extremely one-sided matches that result in campfire afking, this behavior is destructive to the game. I think your going to find yourself in the minority even amongst the hardcore community, because most don't want to join matches where the other team just AFKs.
