It was mentioned somewhere that a new D&D Campaign about Dragons was starting and that it spans multiple platforms[so maybe games too]. Icewind Dale is one of the locations in that Campaign.
Yes there are some very iconic white dragons living in the ice-wind dale area. So I think this is spot on.
Yeah its good to have contempt for your player base. *eye roll*
Paladin is the iconic name, and it would be foolish to name it anything else. I have confidence that the devs have the good business sense to name their hard work properly, when and if paladin is developed.
i think what he meant was that, although it will be CALLED a Paladin, it will really just be battle cleric masquerading as one

Better PvP = sounds great
Dungeon (HOPEFULLY BoE) = sounds great
Dungeon (BoP) = please stop this nonsense!
Solo grind maps = let me go find my noose...
This is one of my favorite settings in FR. I am super excited to see what it brings, and I pray a new class is part of it. At the least I hope they add a SOLID melee PP for the HR. Let's face it, the Dale is best known for it's dual sword using Ranger.

The cleric class was also very iconic throughout the D&D history, with platemails, shields and blunt (later "simple") weapons. Instead they chose to go with an obscure 4e version with no shield, no weapons and dressed like a pope.
I have no confidence that the devs have such business sense you'd expect for the Paladin :P
Well, if there's another "campaign" involving spamming dailies for boons, then it's going to be a bit of a pain in the bum.
The game is currently suffering "grindflation", where in order to be at an acceptable level, you have to have all or most of the current boons unlocked- causing a huge jump in stats and gear score. It's true that Dread Ring is far less tedious and time-consuming than Sharandar, so maybe if the trend continues, possibly we'll be spared the mind-numbing tedious of the Sharandar dailies.
However, given the general lack of content in the game, people tend to level a lot of alts of different classes to have something to do. Every time another long grind/snoozefest comes out, it's a little horrifying for the people with a bunch of active characters. I only have five characters, and they aren't all quite at 100% on the first two campaigns yet, despite spamming as much as I can stand of the dailies most days.
So, here's hoping that the progression in the "campaign" is more linked to clearing some slightly challenging dungeons rather than autopilot grindathons. Paws crossed!
If the paladin will not be named paladin, then why battle cleric? Holy warrior sounds better. Battle cleric is way too much online with Control wizard.
Wow, I love this, I hope Icewind dale will be a very interesting new zone. Also congrats about dungeon keys instead of timed events!
I wish there was either a new class or race with each new module though.

So far all of the classes have been named using the names of class builds in 4th edition. Battle Cleric is the melee build for clerics in 4th edition.
The various builds for paladin are:
Avenging Paladin (two-handed weapon Paladin) and Protecting Paladin (sword and board paladin) from the Player's Handbook.
Ardent Paladin (more offensive focused Paladin) and Virtuous Paladin (Ranged Paladin) from Divine' Powers.
Cavalier (the essentials version of the Paladin) from Heroes of the Forgotten Kingdoms.
Blackguard (Anti-Paladin version of the Cavalier) from Heroes of Shadow
There are also probably some builds in Dragon magazine issues.
All versions of Paladin (besides Blackguard) are defenders.
I just hope it dosent come another module with boon farming for a month. It was a good way to keep your playerbase occupied for a while, but lets hope they figured out other ways like dungeon content, or anything other then solo farming for that purpose.
everytime i enter sharandar i want to /wrists and throw my computer out the window.

Blackguard would a sweet class. But I think they will go with Warlock unfortunately (for me). I hope they add a race change token, want to use my new Moon Elf race but do not want to start over.
Yes, I'm really disappointed that there's no new class.
Everything else looks pretty good, though. I do want to know whether the PvE and PvP campaigns are totally separated. If we don't like PvP, can we still play through the PvE in the new zones?
Seems like the perfect oppurtunity to add back the fishing aswell.

Some info on Pathfinder from 4th edition rules:
Prerequisite: Ranger, two-bladed fighting style
Path Features:
Battlehoned - Gain two extra heal surges per day
Pathfinder's action - When you spend an action poin to take an extra action you also gain a move action
Cruel Recovery - When you hit an enemy and it takes damage from Hunter's Quarry you gain temprary hit points equal to the amount of damage you dealt with Hunter's Quarry + your wisdom modifer
Encounter: Wrong Step - triggers when an enemy moves, and on hit immobilize target until the end of the turn.
Utility encounter: Act Together - When an ally spends in action point to take an extra action, you gain an action point that must be spend before the end of the turn
Daily:: Slasher's Mark - Marks and damages 2 targets and allows you to spend a healing surge before attacking.
Now likely all the will remain is the names of the powers (and one of the encounters won't show up). They will also grab an at-will power from elsewhere and add it (since paragon paths don't have at-wills in 4th edition).
Druid! cryptic, where is Druid? It must be here. everyone wants him, the main reason I play neverwinter for so long, and of course the Icewind dale which made things awesome.
Post level 60 advancement and a new paragon HR path sound great.
I'm curious what player competition for black ice will mean. Is that just competitive nodes like we have now with class nodes, or does that mean it will be through pvp? I really hope the former, not the latter. I would prefer not to compete for nodes at all really.

It sounds like you need to collect black ice to craft the new gear sets so I doubt they would force people to pvp to get crafting mats to make what the devs describe as 'spectacular gear' although now that I reread the news article it sounds like you might have to pvp to get access to it .
i'm with this guy. i'm looking forward to this mod.
I am too. As to the solo grind they are changing the groups up so there will be 3-5 player groups that need taking down for those players who like a tougher challenge or that's what I was reading anyways. Seems like they are adding tougher challenges outside of the dungeons and adding solo advancement chances outside of the dungeon runs which to me makes sense. They are attempting a balance between the two major playerbase types. If they add the keys I think that these keys will probably enhance the rewards in the dungeons as well as out of them, if they do it right it will give the gear for the slot you need or give a second chance on loot for those who dungeon delve alot.
Here's to hoping that's what they are doing.
Personally if the keys are what I think they are I am glad for them so long as they cost a set amount of AD that doesn't break the bank. As a filthy casual I can see this being a good improvement overall for both player types.
As far as forced PVP goes, yeah that is definitely NOT a good idea, it's destroyed many a game title.

I'm worried about them replacing DD. While it would be nice to go in and get the chest any time, I can't ever see myself paying for it (like buying keys to run extra lairs). While some lesser geared players may for a better shot at their T2 gear, the completely geared players have no use for the chest. If they made it non binding but instituted the pay per open then maybe, but with it being BoP and useless for players who have all their equipment...it's just taking away our bonus seals. Not terribly troubling (a 10K salvage every 90 seals, ooooo), but slightly perplexing. I would like this detailed more as I'm not sure my interpretation is correct atm

They have already said they won't be replacing DD. The keys will be in addition to DD.

Dungeon Keys
We will be replacing the existing, time-based dungeon delve events, with a new system that relies on having dungeon keys so that you can adventure at your leisure.

Oh hells yes, the change to DDs is potentially my favourite bit of news so far..
(Also.. some slightly bigger PvE encounters.. at last!)
This sounds awesome , up to a dozen players!
New HR paragon path 'pathfinder' but no mention of a new class :<
And dungeon keys yippee
If this also brings us the Warlock class, this will be the best update Cryptic has ever done! It's like Christmas!
ALso excited to find out what the Pathfinder path is for Rangers.
A scourge warlock...
WTB Class Reroll please

The current plan has the keys as an addition to, not a replacement of, the Dungeon Delve event.
