Yes, this is a very rare drop from the end-room (boss) encounter.
<official message from Senior Designer, "this" referring to the Lightfoot Thief> (Tier 6)

Lately I recall seeing two Lightfoot Thief on the AH (yesterday or two days ago), one of them being at 40,000,000 buyout while the other was at 90,000,000. And then before the maintainence went to browse it again and voila!
1797545_674310565960873_57788451_n.jpg

Uncertain if they actually got sold out (very unlikely in my opinion) or got withdrawn by the owners.

So anyway I'm interested to find out your thoughts in regards to these simple questions:

1. Why is the Lightfoot Thief so highly priced, besides rarity?

2. Why is the Lightfoot Thief being bought, despite it being so expensive?

3. To you, what is the most appropriate price for the Lightfoot Thief?

Any input will be greatly appreciated, and of course if you're someone who purchased or sold the Lightfoot Thief before, your opinions will be awesome to have!

Thanks in advance!

The only possible explanation for the high price that I can think of the super rare nature of the companion , It also has a fairly decent active bonus although personally I wouldn't be able to justify spending such a large amount just because of that as for appropriate price well anything is worth what somebody else is willing to pay for it , its so rare collectors are willing to spend a fortune just to obtain one it seems. Also the ones I have seen on sale have been 6 - 9 million not in the tens of millions but that was a week or two ago so admittedly I don't know what they have been posted for since.

The reasoning is pretty simple. It's rare... a lot of people strive to complete collections and obtain rare things in mmos. Besides that, it does have a nice active bonus. I know one Thief sold for 6 mil two weeks ago, as my friend sold it.

It is very rare though... I have about 70 runs through Epic SCA and still no luck... very frustrating, but hopefully I'll get it eventually. 4 mil+ is worth the grind to me.

Answer: it's **** rare. And people can do mad things for rare items if they are completists.

Find one, and you hit jackpot.

I got one for 2m ad last week, and a guildmate got one for 2.5m, but these prices are extremely rare based on my regular searching, and average price is more like 4-7m. The active bonus is good, but it's not that great when your team does very high dps, so if the team has very high dps in t2 dungeons, maybe only 2% of your total damage output, but if team has low dps, maybe as high as 5% of total output. The way it works is it applies a dot centered at where you are attacking, but doesn't auto refresh every time you crit. And yeah it's rare, I've done about 130 sca's and no thief.

They were pulled down and sold cheaper.

One went for 5m. Idk about the other for sure.

Neither sold for the HAMSTER buyout.

Overpriced items on the AH are a cheap way of advertising that you have an item, either to show off and waggle the epeen or to drum up interest without spending hours posting amidst the spam of PE chat.

Other reason that springs to mind is

As soon as achievement points get added to things people would otherwise ignore they gain interest even though the points are meaningless. I'm sure more people have been chasing the crafted weapons since the points were added as well despite the fairly tiny upgrade in stats between one and the other.

I kept mine. The damage stat booster was too nice to pass up.
Besides, I collect companions when I can.

Pretty sure each person can only get one, ever. Plus it took
me the use of 3 purple companions and a blue to reach the
end of any Epic dungeon. Plus an awful lot of tries to get
    the thief as the prize.

Not everyone will have a bunch of purple companions and
play SCA that much AND want to sell the thief.
Did you really think anyone could steal the power of the god of thieves?

    2. Why is the Lightfoot Thief being bought, despite it being so expensive?

    3. To you, what is the most appropriate price for the Lightfoot Thief?

    1. Other than it's rarity? It has a very good active bonus, one of, it not the best damage companions around, depending on gear of course. In addition it's very good for aggro if you play a tanking class with high crit (ie GWF)

    2. See above.

    3. Paid around 2.2mil for one (well technically traded a G.Vorpal which cost 1.5mil to make, but market price). Though they average around 4-6mil nowadays. They are worth whatever people will pay for them of course, but i'd say they are worth around 3mil.

Thanks everyone for the great answers, helped a ton in clearing my doubts.

It's just rather baffling to see a Blue quality companion which costs similar or sometimes higher than the Artifact drop in Malabog's Castle.

    And yea it's super rare.

    (with suspense)
That moment when you defeat the final boss in the Tier 6 lair, you wait for the loot window to pop out...
Then you saw a Blue quality item under the Seal of the Unicorn...
You quickly thought it was the Lightfoot Thief when it's actually... *drumroll* ... Unidentified Item (blue).
    -_-

Hmm......... let's see........ maybe the reason is because the playerbase is defiled with mostly HAMSTER?
