Does any one know what happens when you "ignore" a player?

Might be a bit of an obvious one but when you get spam email or just ignore a player in game what happens?

Does it just mean that they can't message you or does it go further...won't be able to be in the same group etc? (the electronic version of blanking someone in public??? ;)

Though someone out there might know

Cheers

I do not believe having someone on your ignore list prevents you from being randomly placed with them via the queue system. I'm not sure if the player who you ignored receives any sort of rejection message if they try to private message or email you - though I'm inclined to think they'll get something like "Player X is ignoring you".

I don't know about this game.. but in some other cryptic games, you would not be placed in a team with someone on your ignore list if there was another option available. It wouldn't keep it from happening at all, but it happened less frequently. I have a very long ignore list and I like it that way. But I don't pug, so I don't know if it has any bearing. I just need to see a person be a jerk to any one person, one time, and they can burn in hello, how ya doin'? XD

I am all but certain all the queues are ignorant of player ignore lists.

Several months ago, in PvP, for example, I was queued repeatedly with a Cleric on my ignore list.

i'm pretty sure that "ignore" only prevents you from seeing that user's chat. you may still be able to see that person in-game as well as get queued with them, although i can't say that i've ever been queued with someone that is on my ignore list.

You do. I got ignored while a guildie was trying to pug a cleric for a dungeon run and didn't tell her the party invite would actually be coming from me since I was in another zone but had lead. She rejected the invite and stuck me on ignore.

Think logically: If you ignore someone who is already in your group, said person won't be kicked from the group. So grouping with someone who's on your ignore list is very possible, so I would assume that means you can in theory be stuck in a group with one by using the queue. But considering how many players there are here, the chances of being stuck with an ignored player should be small.

Though here's a fun question: The ignore-command blocks the entire account, not just the player. Is this just in the game, or does it work cross-game too? I'm downloading Star Trek Online right now through Arc, and I logged with with my Neverwinter username and password. So if it's the same account, is it the same ignore-list too?

Yes, I still have one person on my ignore list from my Champions Online days. It is also the one person that will never be removed.

If you ignore someone, they will receive a message telling them that if they attempt to send you a tell.

However, they can still invite you to parties and in fact can spam invite you to harass...

I wish ignore would also prevent party invitations.

Thanks, that's nice to know. It's not a surprise, though. I tried Star Trek Online, and one of the first things I noticed was a lot of people asking for groups for VT and MC. Apparently, the custom chat channels also carry over to other games. :)

Currently, in ALL Cryptic games(and only Cryptic games) when you use /ignore on someone, not only does it remove all their chat from your windows, but it also places a flag/marker on the person. If that person accumulates enough of these flags/marks, they will hit the chatban zone and lose chatting privileges. ALL of them. 24 hours no typing. Using the /report for spam feature does the very same thing, the only difference being that it places MORE flags/marks on a person.

This has been tested and verified in all three Cryptic titles by many people.
    I'm unhappy and I can't say why.

    IMO it's completely useless. COMPLETELY

I mean, I still get queued with all those pricks/ninjas and last-boss kicking premades no matter if I have them on ignore or not.
By Ignoring A Person I define that I want to see him/her/it no longer and I don't care if it will take me more time to find a party.

Sadly, the ignore function is completely useless, unless you have a stalker molesting you.
I once ran with a DC who kicked everyone out of the party after the last boss was down to take the loot for himself. Before the run started, he asked another player to give him the lead. Of course, I put him on ignore. Two or three weeks later, I joined a pug party and the same happened again, except this time I couldn't see him say "Hey, give me the lead!", because he was on my ignore list. But apparently, this is what happened.

So, what does putting players on your ignore list do?

    - It prohibits you from seeing their messages, but it doesn't prohibit them from seeing yours. Apparently, before running the second time with me, he "warned" the others (of me): "Hey, watch out for that CW in our team. I heard he's a ninja." Of course, I couldn't see it.
    - It doesn't give you an option to recognize an already-ignored player in-game.
    - It doesn't prevent you from being put in the same party with an ignored player.
    - They can talk publicly all they want about you and you will not be able to see it/react to it, while they can - and you will never see it.
    - Since people remember the character names and not the handles, there is no way to remember why a certain player ended up on your ignore list, since all you see there are the handles.

The only scenario in which the ignore list makes sense, is when someone is spamming you with tells, molesting you sexually, etc.
Putting someone on ignore because of certain in-game behavior, is basically self-punishment. It may give your powerless ego some satisfaction, but in the end of the day, you're empowering those people by giving them the option to talk smack about and with you without you knowing. Especially people you have a conflict with tend to spread lies and talk smack about you.

This is my experience with the ignore list. And if someone is behaving inappropriately, I have to know where this person is in order to recognize her on time and warn others! Since similar incidents happened to me multiple times, I've cleared my whole ignore list and am putting only gold spammers on it now.

You sure? It would not make much sense. In my other MMOs someone who is on your ignore list cannot invite you for DP, or ask for a trade or anything.

LOL.. powerless ego? It's nothing whatsoever to do with ego. It's to do with them having proven that their words are not worth the real estate on my chat screen, and making room for words that are. It's to do with giving them the flag that accumulates and gets them silenced, because if they seem worth ignoring to me, chances are some others are ignoring them too. There are a LOT of people whose idea of fun is to come into a shared space and try to shock people with their silliness. If they want to talk about me, what do I care? Caring about THAT would be feeding a powerless ego.... ;)

    In brief....

The ignore function is great for managing chat you don't want to see (spam, harassment, hate speech, people being lewd or gross, etc.).

It is poor for managing any kind of grouping, because it doesn't do that. All it does is block chat. It has no useful functionality for insulating yourself from people, only from what they say.

So, depending on what you want to get out of the ignore function, it's good enough for some and completely inadequate for others.

(Mental note, test if the system messages you if/when someone *stops* ignoring you.)
