So, I've been wondering, what is going to be better to use if gem purples are out of reach...no gem purple or gem blue (the level 55 one) as far as pants/shirts are concerned?

    Gemmed Blue.

'Wen considered the nature of time and understood that the universe is, instant by instant, recreated anew. Therefore, he understood, there is in truth no past, only a memory of the past. Blink your eyes, and the world you see next did not exist when you closed them. Therefore, he said, the only appropriate state of the mind is surprise. The only appropriate state of the heart is joy. The sky you see now, you have never seen before. The perfect moment is now. Be glad of it.' Terry Pratchet The Thief Of Time

The enchantment slot is what makes a lot more difference in your gearing that the small amount of stats you get from the pants and shirt themselves.

The enchantment slot is what makes the shirt and pants so powerful.

Of course gemmed Purple is better than gemmed blue but, gemmed blue is better than no gem purple.
