In the dread ring dungeon I think Phantasmal fortress; there is a class the illusion Zulkier turns into that kinda looks like the witch doctor from diablo 3. It uses poison attacks is this the warlock? I was wondering if anyone has any insights on this.

. . .The Zulkir of Illusion, Baltreyo, takes on one of a few possible illusionary forms each time you fight him. One of which is that of Makos who is a Control Wizard. Another is Celeste who is a Devoted Cleric, as well as Sergeant Knox who is a Great Weapon Fighter, and even Xuna who is a Trickster Rogue. As these are NPCs, they have unique abilities. For game mechanics, they are as described. No where is it written in game that Makos is a warlock but more appears to be a War Wizard in the videos than a Warlock.
. . .All of the Zulkirs under Szass Tam's control are not only Wizards but are also forced to be Necromancers along with their School of control. Additionally, he has made them each become a lich under his thrall.

Wait... is Makos a CW or a Warlock? In the intro cinematic he seems to be casting from a dagger of some sort, not an orb.

. . .His use of telekinesis, along with fire spells, seems to purvey him being a War Wizard. Considering that the implement in 4e D&D for both the War Wizard and Warlock does not include a Dagger, yet the Weapon Proficiency for the War Wizard expressly lists a Dagger, I would suspect him being a War Wizard.
. . .However, Neverwinter is an adaptation of the 4e Rules, so again this is only my assumption. He could very well be a Warlock wielding a magical dagger he is proficient in and that was the source of the fire spell, not his own personal magic. Or, Warlocks in Neverwinter may very well end up using Daggers as their implement and he may very well be a Warlock. Yet mechanically speaking in the Baltreyo battle at hand, you are fighting a Control Wizard when he is in the Illusionary form of Makos.

From the Implements section of the Warlocks:
A pact blade, a special magic dagger, can also be used as an implement for warlock powers, as well as warlock paragon powers.
The only reason the wizard lists dagger for weapon proficiency is because they aren't proficient in the full selection of simple melee weapons (which includes dagger).
As for the illusions. All of them use powers from the class they represent. However Makos is using powers that don't otherwise currently exist as powers for any player class.

. . .Very true, only adding more fuel to the idea that he is not only a Warlock but a Scourge Warlock at that (add to the notion that we have seen Scourge Warlock items drop in Beta). I have seen them each use variations of their daily powers that don't quite match what we have in game. For instance the Flamestrike in the form of Celeste neither pushes back nor does it lift you off the ground and it is not an instant cast either, as she goes through a casting animation for it. The simple fact is that we just do not know what class he truly is just yet, as I pointed out since you boldly stated he was without regard.

I have in fact had my characters lifted and/or pushed back by Celeste's flamestrike. Either way, this is turning into quite the educational thread, (for me at least)!

So I went and fought the the illusion of Makos again. I watched my combat log as he attacked me. He used 2 attacks. Eldritch Blast and Killing Flames.
Eldritch Blast is a Warlock At-Will in the 4th edition and Killing Flames is a warlock encounter power from the Arcane Powers book.

Awesome thanks guys; I don't know too much about 4e I'm a 2nd-3rd ed myself but it seemed like he was a warlock so I figured I'd bring it to the attention of the forum and it worked out.

War Wizard:
Weapon Proficiencies: Dagger, quarterstaff
Implements: Orbs, staffs, wands
Warlock:
Weapon Proficiencies: Simple melee, simple ranged
Implements: Rods, wands

There is no need to assume. It is stated he's a warlock in the journal entry of the quest to unlock the Dread Ring campaign.

I know this has already been addressed, but a dagger falls into the "Simple Melee" category in D&D rules.
