Epic Companion attack frequency

I thought the low freq at which the companions attack was because it was a free(cheap) regular companion.
I have bought an epic Galeb Duhr and he hits, but he hits, waits for a two count or so (while he is being whaled on by the enemy) then hits again. They are designed to be this way?

TIA.
It follows therefore, that this young man will be as unfeeling, as unthinking as the dead, until the day he joins them.

Yes, every companion power has the cooldown time listed in their stats page.

    Companions unfortunately don't have atwills.

Generally every companion has a power with a shorter cooldown and another with a longer cooldown, but they don't have a basic attack.
Now that I think about it, only player characters have an at-will, basic attack. Mobs and even bosses have cooldowns on all of their attacks as well.

I will lvl up my boar, ghost, shepherd dog and jagged blade soon. Want to see how far my CIW with +50% damage against fey creatures can go in DPS -_-
But I already guess that I am not going to like it...they need to rework the companions.

I generally try to stay away from Striker companions, but the ones I have do pathetic damage. Strangely, the one companion I've seen doing somewhat decent damage is a Controller companion.

Add recovery runes and itens: it helps a lot.

You know that only applies to companion damage, right?

Galeb is designed to take aggro and stay alive. I don't care about his DPS. He's mighty helpful when my CW is soloing an uncontrollable mob.

I read that as using the Cold Iron Warrior as the summoned companion, buffed by all the other ones that add to companion damage. It's a very specific list of all the companions that buff other companions, see?
