Selling items via Gateway - intended behavior?

I know this sounds kind of silly to bring up, so let me give some background as to my question:

1. I typically have a browser open to the gateway, and alt-tab to it to stay on top of profession tasks and get in a round of SCA between quests.

2. I know that one of the artifacts can summon a shopkeeper.

Given 1 & 2 above, is it "ok" that I access the Gateway on the same character I'm actively playing, so as to free up inventory space if I'm in a dungeon or otherwise away from a vendor at that moment?

Thanks & happy holidays!

I hope they don't alter this - or at least that you can check your profession on the gateway at the same time as playing the same character as I do often since I have dual monitors and it enables me to easily keep tabs on the when shorter tasks finish. Otherwise I keep missing the in-game notification in hectic situations.

I use the feature quite a bit and don't think it's an exploit. Being able to sell items is a fairly recent addition to the gateway, since Module 1, IIRC. This isn't something that was left in by mistake. It was added to the already existing system. If they give you the option to sell on the gateway, it doesn't seem reasonable to think that they didn't want you to use it in game. If that was an issue, surely it would have come up during the planning stage. But they didn't add anything at all to stop you from using it while playing the game. It even synchs the positions of items in your inventory as you do it. I can't help but think it is WAI.

Also, I was talking about this on the Legit chanel last week. Someone pointed out that the artifact also allows you to buy things, whereas the Gateway just allows you to sell stuff. I pretty much went with Lanterns, regardless. Except for my rogues who are far over the softcap for Crit at end game, so I went with the Waters.

Thanks for the input, all! I feel a bit more relived in using it to sell items, then...

I fail to see what the issue is. You know you can access the Auction House from an icon at the top of your screen at any time?

The Gateway is just replicating that behavior with a website.

I'm specifically talking about how I could be out somewhere, my inventory fills up, and I just alt-tab to the gateway and sell any unwanted items right from there - without having to return to town or have/use the portable vendor artifact.

Ah, right clicking "Sell to Vendor" from Inventory tab of Gateway. I understand. I guess it slightly devalues the Catalog artifact, but I guess it is fully intended since they would have introduced the artifact after the feature addition to the Gateway.

Heck you can do it while still in a dungeon. Its handy, obsurdly handy. I can easily understand Bio's original concern about it.

It doesn't really devalue the Artifacts since you can also buy pots and kits from the Artifact vendor. I don't have the Artifact myself, but I know it's a handy, little thing to have.

. . . . . I understand the concern and appreciate the sentiment of worry. I do believe this is an intended feature of the Gateway, as we've had it for quite some time now. In any case, I'll make an inquiry when my Community Manager is back in the Office and see if we can get any official word on this handy feature. At this point in time, I see no reason to fear that it is in any way an exploit of the system. If it is, then it surely will be disappearing or changing as soon as I push for an inquiry.

I would be a little disappointed if this changed now. It seems to be in keeping with a development intention to place convenience at the Gateway and not make bag space management (and the need to zen purchase bags) a choice more than a forced necessity. In fact I specifically chose quest artifacts other than the shopkeeper first on my characters based on the availability of this feature in the Gateway.

. . . . . Nothing to worry about. I am told this is an intended feature of the Gateway, that there is nothing wrong with using the Gateway for this.
