Lockbox question

History:

So after getting my first real main character up to where she was encountering Drow and their little priests, I thought it would be fun to create a Drow Priestess. And what better companion for her than one of those Aranea that you can get from the Feywild Lockboxes. I create the character, level her up just a bit, and then mail her some of my Feywild Lockboxes from another character, and finally buy a set of ten keys.

Out of these I mainly get some of the runestone packs, but I also get three Sylvan Equipment Arsenal boxes. So at least I figure I'll get some good blue items out of it that maybe I can sell. So I open them up on my level 7 character, and get three level 10 blue items. Level 10?!?! I'll outlevel those in about 30 minutes!

Question:
Did I basically just waste ten bucks to get some low-level runestones/enchantments and 3 level 10 blue items? I thought that maybe these blue items would be a higher level than 10. Or am I just an idiot who should have waited to open those arsenal boxes?

    Says right in the description:
Equipment gained from this pack is granted based on the level and class of the opener.

As for the aranea and other lockbox companions and mounts, the drop rate on these is so low that if you've decided that you desperately want one of them, you're best off saving up and buying it directly. Unfortunately, because the contents of the Feywild and Dark Forest lockboxes are generally not all that appealing, the epic items from them are accordingly scarce.

The equipment out of the sylvan equipment arsenal boxes is going to be at around your level.

Booo to poor reading skills for me, then. Thanks guys. And yeah, I went to the AH to see what one would cost, and there was only one for sale for around 3,000,000 AD. Well out of my current price range.

To elaborate, if you are under level 10, you will get a level 10 item that you can equip. Then it's something like level 20 can equip at 9, level 30 can equip at 19, etc.

They're best to open on a midlevel character who won't outlevel the gear quickly. Opening at 60 is no good either, since you get an item useful for level 49.

At least in Vegas you get blinky lights and sounds.

Those things give me a headache.

The new Thayan Equipment (Mulhorand?) from the Rusted Box seems to be better value, as it (purportedly) levels with you. Not sure on the mechanic of it, and whether it has a 'ceiling' but most of them are dirt cheap on the AH, and not bad spec wise, though you'll find better t1 and t2 gear once you reach 60 I'd imagine.
Is it finally a T5/U/T6 KDF Science Ship?
