. . . . . It can be done without Maelstrom or Slam, it just takes much longer and is much more difficult without the interrupt tactics. The boss interrupt abilities just add to possible tactics for the last boss battle. To still do the interrupts on the strangles and portals without a spellstorm mage, you'd just need the GWF to slam strangle or have the cleric heal the player that gets strangled while the GWF continues to focus on the portals. I've survived Valindra's strangle several times because we had a good cleric on top of things.
. . . . . It's still doable, without interrupting Valindra all-together, but much more of a headache. Besides, the Master of Flame makes a great compliment to the Spellstorm Mage and can easily take the place of a Rogue in a group, as a Rogue is not needed for Malabogs. You could do MC with a GF, DC, CW(S), CW(F), and GWF or a GF, DC, CW(S)x2, and CW(F) or even GF, DC, GWFx2, and CW(F) and use the interrupt tactics.
Really thinking about switching but people are like "you need 1 point here or you cant come!"
. . . . . Honestly, if someone won't take you to Malabogs because you lack a certain spell and they can't make up for it in the rest of the part make-up, find someone else to group with.

what should I do??
Play what you want, and have fun, as Zebular says. Also, I suggest finding a good guild. Then you won't have to worry about satisfying expectations others have for how you should build your character.
Thanks for the replies. It's more of a question of feeling I'm "missing out". It would be nice if at least 1 daily skill on every class had an interrupting ability. What PUG wants a MoF CW? Why choose them over a more effective class?
You said yourself that rogues arn't needed in MC. Would you typically avoid taking them along? I bet you will. It's natural to set up the group with the best chances. Someone who pugs might find it hard to find a decent group.
It's less of a question about playing what's fun and more of a question of even getting considered.
At the risk of opening a can of worms, the ability given by the vicious dire wolf is a 5% chance to interrupt. I've seen it proc a lot using at-wills on Preview. Not sure if this will work as I've never gotten that far in MC.

Never felt the need to use Maelstrom for MC. Valindra is easy enough to put down without using an interrupt mechanic (I won't go so far as to call it an exploit, but my money is on it falling under the category of "unintended behavior"). That being said, I don't imagine that groups at or just barely above the minimum GS requirement for the dungeon are melting Valindra, so it could be that these groups are relying on aforementioned shortcuts to survive the encounter because they lack the damage and heals to do it otherwise.
Anyway, the more important issue is when or if Master of Flame will be accepted as competitive by the general population.

. . . . . My answer is no, I would not avoid taking them along. Almost every time I've ran MC, we've taken a rouge. Not because of their class, but because they wanted to go. I don't play the "elitist" or "gotta be the best" game. I play for fun and with like-minded individuals.

Contagion - Cleric
Testament - Wizard
Pestilence - Ranger
Dominion - Paladin
NIGHTSWATCH
Load your single target DPS and burn her down once in range, its not hard, and MoF is just as capable of that as Storm.
Obsidian Oath - Warlock
A whole lot of other Obsidian toons as well.
