Shadow Wolves and Rangers

So the next CTA is coming out next week, woohoo!

One of the possible rewards will be the Shadow Wolf Mount and I really want one for one of my characters.
The problem is the "one of my characters" will be my Hunter Ranger and the mount is Bind on Pickup.

Now I understand why it's BoP. Normally I say it's not worth being upset about these events giving items for characters you plan to make on the basis of future content releases...

But to me that's when it's speculation. There have been people in the past who said they wanted items for warlocks, druids, paladins and what-not. Well those are not confirmed yet. They are not on any form of release schedule. Heck they might not even be in development.

But the ranger is different. We know it's a ranger. We know it will hopefully be released by the end of the year. We are all already planning our characters for when we can play the ranger on the live server.

And in this sense it's a bit unfair to not be able to procure at least the Shadow Wolf Mount for our upcoming ranger characters. Could we please have the Shadow Wolf be BoE, get a token to aquire one when it comes out or better yet make it an account unlock? :D

Or then again, I could just be sad since a Shadow Wolf is just a perfect mount for my ranger. So perfect I would actually pay the upgrade fee which I never thought I would pay.

What does the rest of the community think?

Well it is only speculation, right? Sorry I cannot contribute to this argument with feedback, but I have a question. If you buy an account wide mount, and upgrade it to rank 3, is that upgrade account wide?

I think it would be nice if these event rewards were bound to account. That way, the player can use one character to get the reward and then hold on to it for a future character. Personally, if this Shadow Wolf Mount is indeed a reward, I hope to get it for my Drow Trickster Rogue.

Not likely as the upgrade is done on the character side, not the account side.

I don't do the CTAs but if they did change it so we could save the mount for our rangers then I would do the CTA

Another CTA where you get fifty times the same dye, and level 1 enchants?

If the mount was BoP(Account) vs BoP(Character) that would be great too.

Hope the Devs will read this and make the mount BOE or BOP(Account). If they make it BOE, I don't mind reducing the % of getting it because I will be doing the event over and over again till I get one for each of my toons, and at least 1 extra for the coming HR.

To side track a bit, doesn't that weapon skin in the TR pic (in the blog: http://nw.perfectworld.com/news/?p=1025781) looks very similar to the Many Arrows CTA weapon skin? Hopefully the skins will be a different set as mentioned. Love it that we are getting the cruel enchantments again. :)

I hope it's not BoP (as I can't see the site at the moment) as it would be nice to get for my future TR. As others have mentioned, BoP (Account) would be wonderful.

If this if going to be another 50% speed mount, I see no reason to *not* make it BoE. Those (the horses) are already accessible for a paltry 5G, so given the likely low drop rate, why not allow us to sell, trade, or transfer them?

You'll be able to get it on your Ranger the next time they run this particular CtA after you create your Ranger. There is no need to change things up just because a new class is just around the corner.

As Ambi well knows, I am opposed to all BoP items on principle. I can deal with BoE even though I don't particularly lime it, but nothing should be BoP. Rewards like this should never be BoP.

I agree. No need to change it up because a new class is around the corner. They should change it on principle and make it so event rewards like the mount aren't BoP.

Hardly practical. These CTA events come out like once every 2 months. Given there are 11 non-level 60 accessible Skirmishes, that's 22 months before you see the same one again! Even Midsummer event and its mount, you get at least once a year...

There is really little excuse for them not being at least account-wide or, if not, to err on the side of caution and go BoE for an item that by itself grants neither player advantage nor generates direct sales for the publisher. Heck, the more players who have a "one-off" mount in their hands, the more likely they would to upgrade it, therefore paying AD/Zen to do it.

On a side note, how come there are no Mount Training tomes/items in the Zen shop to rank up mounts directly?

Having event specific items and mounts set to BoP leads to most people having a very frustrating experience... you either end up with none or get multiple of the same on one character...

Please make the mount BoE so that some of us could buy one off the AH in case we don't get it from the event... PLEASE!!!

I like the uniqueness it brings to getting a mount and showing you participated in an event, but I agree having it on another character in your lot would be helpful.

I really don't like the idea of people selling them on the AH, so I was thinking maybe they can have it where you can trade it in-between characters a certain number of times. Like 3. Not unlimited as that'd just be stupid, switching it back and forth no problem.

I've been playing PWI for so long and i think i know how this people work...

First, the Hunter Class, we all know that it is coming out and most people will roll out new toons....
2nd, they have release a green wolf on Zen Store, WHY? so you would know a Wolf mount is in the Zen.
3rd, they release a CTA free Wolf, so you could have a feel for the wolf and say to yourself, it would be awesome if this mount would be use by my hunter class.
4th, Event over, no more CTA wolf and they release Hunter Class, but you want the wolf.

Here is the Zen Wolf comes in... BUY the friggin Mount on Zen Store for your new Hunter Class... get it. LOL.

Well technically. All the event rewards have already been Bind on Equip. The only bind on pickup items have been item transmutation items and a few fashion items such as the Halloween event one.

It just may well be the mounts will be bind on equip.

the mail interface is not set up to sent bound items. if you try to drag and drop one in one of the five slots, it will give you a red X over the slot. that goes for account bound items, too. the mail interface would have to be re-coded to either include a special tab or checkbox or some way to send mail internally... and by internally i mean to yourself... and this would open the ability to send account bound items to other characters. typing your @accountname into the "to" field, there is no way for the mail system to know what you typed there until you hit the "send" button.

the claims agent is currently set up to collect purchased pack items and promo items. i wouldn't necessarily call that an account-wide storage area because you can't transfer items in and out of it.

there's probably a lot of different ways that they could implement account wide storage and account bound items. but until they actually implement something along those lines, everything is just speculative.

As for the claims agent, I had some account bound exp awards that did not appear at the claims agent and I could not move from my capped characters to my non-capped characters. So that doesn't seem to be a working system. Account bound items should be sendable to other characters on the account - otherwise how is that supposed to work?

The mount is useless to people who already have account mounts like pack buyers or zen mount buyers and the shadow wolf is only green. The fact that most players where also able to get a pig or boar mount also makes this a useless prize to most players. I see no reason to make the shadow wolf BOP.

. . . . . I agree. I only want this mount on my upcoming Ranger. Past CTA Companions have been Bind on Equip and if this Mount is not an Account-Wide Mount, then it too should be Bind on Equip. I'm still very tired of all this Bind on Pickup mentality I am seeing in the marketing of the game.

I have to agree with needing a bind on account option. It would alleviate a lot of the frustration.

Of course, until they add account banks it is pointless. Hopefully they can find a way to add those between module 2 and 3.

I maintain that any randomly obtainable reward should be BoE and that therefore the Shadow Wolf should be BoE, not BoP. What if we all get 3 that we don't want all on the same character? Nobody likes that. We should be able to choose whether we want it and if not, to give it to someone who does.

I think you two are trying to say the same thing, but misunderstanding each other.

Zeb, you mean that "bound-to-account" items exist in the form of account unlocks, which can be claimed for every character on an account. This is true.

Dardove, you mean bound-to-account items exist but can't be directly traded if, suppose, a character got a bound-to-account item as a drop/reward, because there's no mechanism for trading them around once a character already has the item. This is also true.

The problem is that there are account unlocks, which are claimable for each character but cannot be traded from one character to another, which precludes items that a character MUST pick up (e.g. a chest reward) in order for the item to be tied to that character's account and cannot be claimed more than once. We don't have items that are actually tradeable between all characters on the same account since there's no mechanism for doing so. All of this relates to the thread because if BoP items could be changed to bound-to-account (i.e. tradeable -- not necessarily infinitely reclaimable -- among characters on the same account), we would be happy with a billion bound shadow wolves regardless of which character they were actually claimed on.

    Does this help?

I havent read all the post except the first one.
here is a thought i want to suggest.

Why not make the event items unlock in the zen store
once you get it during the event
it will unlock in the zen store for all characters.

this will save alot of time for some players that have
    alot of characters.

That won't help those that want the shadow wolf for their rangers as you are saying that it would only be unlocked for the duration of the event so if rangers come out after the event, then those of us would still be out of luck.

no, not what i meant but i wrote that when i was half asleep.
not for the duration, but for keeps. i only thought of it from STO
they have rewards that unlock i the zen store for players
that test content. so i figured why not suggest it.

. . . . . Being a player of STO, I understand what you mean. I'll try to explain it a bit better:

. . . . . In STO, there is a separate area in the Zen Shop called the "Legacy" tab. In this tab it lists all "Legacy" and Account Unlocks and has little to do with the actual Zen Purchases made in the Zen Store. In Neverwinter, the Reward Claims Agent is our version of this "Legacy" tab.
