How do you tackle storage issues from a single player perspective?

I'm at that point I need a serious clean out of my characters, having aquired too much stuff. Little bit out of touch with my options here so would like to here how others tackle this.

I was accustomed to simply mailing excess between accounts but this isn't viable now as I'm exceeding limits on both ends. I have 2 accounts, 4 characters and can make another character if needed, hell could make endless accounts and characters if that was the best option?

So,
1) What's the current limit on mail storage, I think it used to cap at about 2 mail attachments then you couldn't do it, be it to yourself or another account, not sure if either of those have changed differently from one another?

2) I've upgraded my personal storage once and would consider doing it again, it's 600z for 12 spaces? and that's constant?

3) The other option I'd like to hear about is guild storage? If I made a guild on one of my characters what are my immediate, additional, storage options, if any? If there's none, at what cost/point do you gain guild storage. This seems potentially the best option (cost pending) as it would allow my unguilded chars shared access from anywhere?

Anything else I'm overlooking? Stuff like just making a "mule" on additional accounts. I'm accustomed to mules, having been a fairly hardcore D2 player :) I think age has made it less appealing having to make numerous characters and start naming then, "Purples 1, Purples 2, Blues.." etc..

I have been able to send at least 25-30 emails to myself and between accounts. Not optimal , but there doesn't appear to be a limit as far as I can tell. Emails support up to 5 item attachments each.

Also, run each "mule" through the two quests which give extra bags for free. Plus use their personal banks.

After that? More free accounts, or convert AD to Zen, and buy character slots.

I wonder, you have 2 accounts but you have bought Feywild on one which is 60 USD. With that money you could also have bought a lot of char slots. (except if you were one of the few lucky ones who won it.) So making more accounts would be a waste of your Feywild pack.

    1. I'm not sure, as I just use my AD to buy blue bags (Zen exchange, not AH lol) on the important chars I play. But I could send like 20 items last time trough the mail to other char. So at least 20 or more is allowed ^^

    2. I know the price stays, I don't know if there is a limit on how much bankslots you can buy.

    3. Guild bank slots cost also AD, first one is 150k AD. Probally would get more expensive how higher it goes, but not sure about that as I don't use it.

Best way is probally to earn AD and just buy the blue bags. They are really helpfull for me at least, have no storage probs :).

Your best option is probably guild storage. I think it cost less than 400k to get two slots, which will give you a ton of storage space. I don't remember the exact cost but the first slot is less than the cost to upgrade your own personal bank and it gives you 48 spaces. It is definitely a cheap option.

As I recall it, Guild storage is 150'000 AD for first slot, 300'000 for second, 450'000 for third, and so on until you pay 1.2 millions for the 8th and last repository.

I have 6 characters and I distribute the enchantments among them: One has all level 2, other all level 3 and so on. The shards and wards are also kept in a single character. Even though I've never bought additional bank space and I don't have permission on my guild's bank, I don't have any storage space problem and the only boring part is constantly sending mail from one char to the other.

I make sure to sell/salvage things that are just eating space. Works very well. Junk purples, blues, greens, odd rank 3 or lower enchants, pots lower than level 60, ect... I have 10 char slots and make sure of a few of them for extra storage.

hmmm, low level enchants should be fused, and I often just keep enchants of each type in my lower bags. I have 5 bags on all my toons, and I am wondering if i can have 2 greater bags of holding on the same toon? the ones you get from the pack(s) and earn in quests are substandard to a greater bag and i will probably replace them all in time. all the lower pots are needed for alchemy research and should be sold on AH at the very least.

I have bought an additional char bank slot as well and dropped 300K ad on my own Guild bank slot (48 slots so the first few are the best bargain, you just need 5 accounts with toons to 15 and multi logging capability to create the guild)

Inventory is the largest annoyance in this game. I cannot remember a game where i actually just left loot as the norm, rather than collect and sell. Hopefully account banks will be implemented, or the companion/mount/fashion tab(s) or even an enchantment slot would make me and my entire guild very happy.

So does anyone know if i can swap out all my lesser bags for Greater bag of holdings?

Buy bags? 3 bags gets you 72 slots.

As I understand it, you can move an empty bag to your inventory, letting you install a larger one in that slot.

guildbank is horrible for stacking stuf. runestones then. have to drag each rune to the right spot of the stack. can`t double click or anything.
forgot how that went with a personal bank.
gb doesn`t allow bound items ofcourse.
but, i`m a little happy with it.
didn`t count the cost difference between gb slots and personal bank slots.
personly i still like to see the extra bag option, the max on those is very limited if you don`t want to trouble of organizing everything in seperate places.

Thanks peeps, having read all the suggestions I think i'll go with extra chars/accounts. Once my current TR hits 50 I wanted to make a fresh one and run it through pvp again, so that'll give me some extra room.

My main character has all greater bags but only 3 slots empty, both account mail slot attachments are full as it won't let me do anymore mail attachments. Nothing I'm holding is junk, I do alot of pvp, usually from level 10 through to 60 and I like to twink so I have gear set ups for each 10 levels for that character prior to starting so it's easy to switch out pvp gear when I need to, my main character has the majority of maxed professions so anything created ends up on her until it can be moved about.

I think avoiding anything with a zen cost is obviously better, unless it was alot more convenient. As for the feywild comment, wasn't too sure how to reply to it as it didn't seem relevant. The pack gave alot more than a extra character slot.

Char slots are the most efficient IF you are willing to powerlevel up to get the free bags.
A character slot purchase gives 2 characters. It costs I think 500 zen? 2 characters (leveled enough for the free bags) gives you what, 3 bag's worth of storage each (bank included)? So for 5 bucks you get 6 bag's worth of space. A bag costs amost as much as that EACH.

sounds a little extreme to keep everything for each level :D
you can buy most gear for such low ad
and use the mailsots for more important stuf ;p
you`re not afraid of drowning in all the accounts ?;p

Your best bet, at least from a cost vantage point, is to take 1 character slot and make them a mule character. You get the base storage, then the 18-slot bag around level 8, then another 12-slot bag around 29-30. If you pool things like runes & enchants on that 1 char via the mail, and since those stack, it shouldn't be too bad.

the downside is you need room on your main or whatever char you play on for runes ;p because they`re so many and pile up so fast.
i still can barely manage it, and then the pots(bufs). :) horrible

Regarding runes & enchants - at 60, you will never get anything below R4 unless you're running profession tasks that give small chests of goods, or are doing something in a lower level zone. Thus, you only have to worry about R4's. If you don't fuse them until you need a higher rune/enchant, that further saves space. I haven't encountered an instance where I need more than 3 stacks of potions, so you can easily put extra stacks on the mule character. I also don't bother keeping any of the stat-buffing potions on most of my 60's, so again you can move those around or sell them off...

i`m ignorent ;p and like to pop all bufs sometimes available in instances ;p hehe
but the things is, those bufs keep also coming back on a regualr basis in your bag, from praying and mobs.
i better don`t open profession stuf anymore, but those lootnodes or how they`re called can have lower ranked then 4 also, or am i mistaking.
like to open those also sometimes :D
thought i saw lower then lvl 4 in sharandar.
    i`ll see, worth trying.

I get 3s and 4s in Sharandar. That's pretty much half a greater bag of holding right there.

I have multiple characters (single account), and I've bought a lot of bags (using astral diamonds, either converted or bags auctioned for below the conversion rate). The level 60s keep fairly clean bags because they don't have gear to level into or anything like that. The levelling characters share an empty large bag that gets mailed to whoever is seeing active play at the time. Lower level potions and enchants get consolidated into as few stacks as possible. My only real problem is storage of level 60 gear for characters that can't use it yet.

Storage: alts | guild bank | bank | bags.
    Slots: 64 | 48 | 16 | 24.
    Cost efficiency: 1x | 2.5x | 10x | 11x.
Type: BoE | BoE | BoP | BoP.
Access: mail access | single access | single access | universal.

No idea about mail storage limits but it is worth noting that if your mailbox has a lot of mail, regardless of whether they have attachments, you cannot send mail to yourself of any kind, nor receive mail from others. You can only receive mail from the system/AH.

So, if you use alts, make sure to keep your mail super tidy!

Of course, the game has no bulk mail deletion tools...

It would be nice if we could carry more than 5 bags. Why isn't an option to be able to buy more inventory bag slots!

Thank you, this is helpful and ****, I never actually realised that un-attached mail could contribute towards it. I don't think I've ever deleted any AH notification mail for example and those rapidly stack up. That bit of info alone could save me alot of hassle.

Thanks again all, lots of helpful ***-bits here.

I would deem it junk if you can

A: Do nothing with it immediately

B: Only do something with it if you have to gamble it's worth repeatedly with an increasing chance that it will remove itself from existence.

so if you're talking about the enchants. Dump em... Unless your idea of fun is being a packrat and turning this game into a second job.

Looking at all this talk of Guild banks, extra characters, jumbo bags, and mail 'storage' makes what I have done seem decidedly... odd.

To combat storage problem for runes and enchants, I bought extra bank space on my main. (Any additional characters -may- have extra bank space bought, but that will simply be for any fashion items they may wish to collect, or for gear they are not yet able to use. All runes and enchants that these secondary characters are not currently using are forwarded to the main for merging into higher ranks.)

As you all know, each character starts with 16 slots in their personal bank, and for the princely sum of 600ZEN you can buy an additional 16 slots. What no-one has yet mentioned is that this has an upper limit - you can only expand your storage FIVE times before you are unable to purchase any more storage space, thus taking your Manycoins bank account from 16 slots up to a maximum of 96 slots, all for 3000ZEN.

Hope this info can be of benefit to someone.

    Luck to you!

11 chrs, some with the blue bags, some just with the two free little bags you get from the first two bag quests (I stop in the graveyard). I have that many mostly as Leadership alts, but they're also mules at this point. I fill up because of companion, enchants (yes I fuse them myself), potion and mount collecting + gear for all classes.

I find the blue bags more useful than expanding the bank space, because the chr. can just be perm. parked by a mailbox to view/send/grab things, vs. having to run back and forth from bank to mailbox etc. Also, the (purchased) bags can be mailed from chr. to chr. if you wanted to delete a chr. for some reason to make a new one.

One big issue is they keep flooding us with "Limited Time" dye packs and transmute items that many players tend to keep. Unfortunately they are not really giving us any way to store these items unless we pay the astronomical prices they ask for bags and bank slots. These items are priced WAY too high. It's all part of the "Flood them with loot" design that makes many players buy more bags so they can pick it all up. Sadly, even with all the bags and slots we still run out of room. I think it's time to introduce the Mega Bag and sell it in the Zen store. LOL

After spending 30 minutes deleting mail from 2 accounts, I found it didn't help. One account has 24 e-mails with attachments, so I'm assuming it's possibly on the the specific amount of items attached amongst these, i'll check this against my other account eventually.

In the end I went with the guild option, for now, and I'm very glad I did. It can be very costly as it's been pointed out prior to this is long term tab costs increasing. But I've bought 2 tabs and it's helped so much, especially with sorting everything between my characters within the guild. Downside is it restricts you to having chracters going in and out of guild potentially.

450k for 2 guild storage tabs. Money well spent I believe. One thing that would make this so much more convenient would be if you had more access to guild storage, kinda like the mail box issue with there being too few in too little areas.
