companion gear?

Ok, got my portal hound (a defender) to lvl 30 and wanted buy him some gear off ah. Which skills should I be going for? Not sure if want all "tank" skills or toss in some damage ones too.

    Assuming the portal hound has some combination of neck/belt/ring?

    All my canine companions get recovery runes in offense slots and defense runes in defense slots. Then for equipment, I look for combinations of those same stats (whichever is missing), plus life steal. So, on a dire wolf with all offense slots, I look for equipment that is all cheap level 60 greens with defense and life steal. If I had one defense rune, then I would swap out one of the equipment pieces for recovery and life steal instead. This method has been serving extremely well for keeping pets upright and fighting.
