First off, the devs listen to feedback. Feedback is the reason the nerfed GWF.
They just don't listen to YOUR specific feedback, because YOU are not the only person in the world.
Second, GWFs will never have a defined role in groups, because this is not that kind of game. When they add 10 more new classes, cleric and fighter will not even have a defined role in a group. When you see a 5 man group consisting of a Paladin, a War Marshal, a Warlock, a Ranger and a Druid, are you going to still complain that GWF's role in the party is not well defined?
very well said, you know the problem is that there is so much assumption about how and what devs listen to. In some cases no matter how many people are screaming for it it still may be a horrible idea, that was the case in SWG NGE, people point to that as the Diakatana move of MMO's but it was widely begged for on the forums before implementation, after the devastation they either slithered back under their rocks or jumped on the side that was making death threats against John Smedly's family. Arm Chair devs seldom know what's best for a game and actual developers realizing that is a very good thing.
