You can test any transmute changes for free on the Test/Preview serve before doing them on Live

That's not the point here.
Sure if you wanna test how something looks you can test this for free on the preview shard (although there should be a character preview, so you don't even have to equip it to know how it looks...), but the transmutation cost itself is in my opinion ridiculous.
I wanted to transmute my arms and boots yesterday. 100k AD in total. wtf!
I'm not one of those players farming gear all the time to sell it, so I have ~300k AD in total. And transmuting TWO of my 12 equipment items costs 1/3 of this? Really?!
Creating a unique look for your character is way overpriced in this game. You are basically FORCED to farm or pay real money. Transmuting should be 1/5 of the price - 10k AD per transmutation. The current prices are just ridiculous.
We are not happy with the current state of it either, especially in regards to items made solely for the purpose of transmutation. We may have something in the works for you soonish.

That's very nice to hear, especially about the cosmetic skins. It's a bit sad to get the fun stuff from events but then be looking at it costing an arm and a leg to actually use.

I am so happy to hear that Panderus. I like to xmog items as well but have refrained from doing so because the in-game cost is so prohibitive. I think Crystal made a very poignant point when she said that you need to spend real world money to be able to afford to change the appearance of an item. This is my first real delve into a FTP game, and quite often it feels like my wallet is mined more than I get a return on the game in enjoyment. It makes me feel a little better to know that you guys have noticed the imbalance and pay attention to your customers. IMHO lower the xmute cost so low that players can feel free to do so whenever they have a whim to. It could stimulate a market for items in the zen store that are for that purpose. It would also stimulate the AH in-game for coveted items that are popular. While we are at it how about custom items for companions like armor for Man-at Arms or outfits for the Sylphs and such? I know there are new skins for leveling your companion and that generates zen sales from upgrades, but perhaps that could be worked into the model?

Good. At least can make my characters look more of how I want them to look.
As its been, I have transmuted very little. And how the prices are now, it makes it very prohibitive to transmute while leveling. And at 60. though you have more source of AD income, the actual prices of transmuting just one item eats up weeks worth of AD income just for one thing, especially if you are a casual player.
The AD cost of transmutation is pretty bad right now, and has been.

You are not happy? Who made it that way? Some strange alien force?
Seriously instead of lowering the price UNTIL you work something else out, you just keep it that way, and say soonish maybe something blah blah blah....
Hopefully you are also taking a look at the cost of companion upgrades and mount upgrades.
It is cheaper to convert diamonds to Zen and then purchase the stormraider clydesdale or any purple mount, which you then get on each character.

Great!! that's a start.. We are all getting tired of the BAHHH! HUMBUG! marketing strategy here. I have seen player and professional reviews at more than one MMO site flaming the game and screaming "CASH GRAB!!"
With all the hoopla and whining about the Nightmare Thursday exploit, I wish to remind the marketers that at the price of a key... 125 zen, They were selling like hotcakes. I expect there was a key sale record for 40 minutes there that the game will never see again.. Now I'm not saying to give tham away like that. They were radically underpriced.
To me, a fair price for keys would be about 50 - 75 zen, because this more truly reflects the in game AD equivalent that they will actually yield on average. But rather than dropping the key price, raising the value of the prize content 40 to 60% would make them a far more worthwhile and less frustrating purchase, and I'll bet you could double your total revenue from them.
Serious price cuts across the board from my experience in other fields would generate no less than 50% more income from the zen market. And tell old Ebenezer it doesn't have to wait till Christmas .......
Agreed. Its to expensive the change Armor/weapon appearance!
Also agree with the comment on mounts and companion upgrade cost. If you have such ridiculous cost you should at list give SOMETHING worth THAT MUCH cost. Too much for so little gain...

You could also come up with custom skin for items (weapon, armor and etc) in the zen shop. I bet it would be popular and profitable.
