I have opened a good many of these and so far mostly just green enchants and the same crafting pack over and over. etc. I thought they used to give a chance at wards or was that my imagination and also I noticed that the purple stuff is very very low chance. I wondered if anyone else has noticed this, if it continues I will stop opening boxes. Just wondering! (maybe I am just getting unlucky right now) You kind of want to feel like every so often something pops out that makes you say 'ok this is worth it'.

Considering it is more rare than "rare" stuff, that shouldn't be surprising. In the old lockboxes, the nightmare had something like a 0.5% chance to drop - those lockboxes are for people who have money to burn and like playing the lottery.
I've noticed it's not very profitable to open them

Good many I am really embarrassed to say LOL, not sure to be honest, a LOT. I open them all the time. not 1000's or anything maybe 100, but that is a lot and I think I am done with them. Not a good way to spend money. Doh!!!

'money to burn' no one has money to burn not even the rich or semi rich, everyone needs to watch their pennies in this economy so it sounds silly but 'even in a game' it needs to make sense that it rewards you with things you perceive as rewarding (ie game items that seem special or worth it)
The answer is clearly, don't open boxes if you don't perceive the items not worth it and I don't at this time was just wondering if it was something others had noticed too since the patch , the old boxes were much much more fun/better
The new boxes are way worse than the nightmare boxes. If you don't get a mount, pet, or idol the box is a loss. If you get a Illefarn Shard or new profession pack you take a smaller loss, but it is still a loss. Everything else is pure HAMSTER. None of the epic enchants sell and most of the enchant/runestone boxes will give you HAMSTER. I got 3 rank 5 training runestones out of one. They sell for about 105 AD each. Total loss. At least you had a chance at a Coal ward with the nightmare boxes.
I opened quite a few when the patch went live and I lost on every single one of them. It was a total waste of money. And no, I am not mad because I didn't get a mount or pet, I wasn't expecting to get one. I just opened them so I could see the drops and judge the value for myself. I opened quite a lot of Nightmare boxes in the past so I wanted to compare the two. The Nightmare boxes were usually a loss as well, but it wasn't nearly as bad. You could open $50 worth of nightmare boxes and would usually get at least 1/2 of your money back in AD (with no mount). With the new boxes you won't even come close.
One last thing....I think the new pet drop rate is around the same as the Mount. I do not know for sure, but it seems to be pretty close.
You just are the person this company loves to have playing this game keep throwing away your money to them
Throwing their virtual money back at them. I didn't buy the keys with cash. I got them with spare AD and gold and I stopped opening them after I realized it was just a waste. I still got at least 1/2 of the AD back each time (sometimes I made AD, but not many) and kept a few items for myself.
Well, actually I did buy keys I used on the Feywild boxes with cash because I bought the keys when they were on sale. I was going to resell them but I really had no need for the AD because there is nothing to buy anymore, so I figured I would try out the lockboxes and see how they were. Not a big loss and now I know to never open another one (which will save me AD in the future) because they are a total loss. There is almost no way to recoup the cost with these boxes.
I keep trying to tell Cryptic/PWE I have the money to spend, they just don't offer anything worth buying. I went from spending a ton of money on this game to almost nothing. I realized everything I bought was either useless (companions) or would become useless because they would destroy the value of it by changing things around. Professional assets, INCLUDING leadership assets, are a complete waste now due to the salvager and all of the dragon eggs they added to the game. I spent a grand total of $70 in the past 3 months, which is a huge decrease, and unless they come up with something pretty awesome I don't really see me shelling out too much more. Yes, I know I gave them money for Pixels. It is not really a big deal to me as long as I am entertained.

I agree that the old boxes had a better chance of giving you something you could use.
