Has anyone upgraded the devoted cleric companion? Search on these forums seems les than useful on the topic (or it could, you know, be me).

What level will the third slot be open?

Did her heals increase dramatically?

Seems awful expensive.

I did it. I'm only leveled up to 17 and it hasn't unlocked yet. I also notice only a slight increase in heals; but hopefully that will change when she hits 20. And yes, it is VERY expensive.

Of course it's expensive, it's so you buy some zen and convert them to AD.

Her healing is a % of your HPs. If it has increased, that's because of you levelling up or changing gear, not because of levelling her.

I have one up to 20, and there's no difference in healing, but a HUGE difference in survivability. Instead of dieing in most encounters, she stays up, and has even survived some in some minor boss fights, like gnarlroot. Expensive, but so far seems like real progress. Slot opens up at 25, IIRC.

    300k AD just not worth.

Really what a ridiculous amount just to get to level 20 with barely an increase of healing.
The should decrease it to 50K AD to get to lvl 20 then 100k AD to 25 and 150 for lvl 30.

That will actually justify spending 300k AD.

I couldn't agree more. At it's current cost you might as well pretend it does not exist.

Companions gain their main stats and hit points as they level. So, they gain survival just because they gain maximum health. I read that a companion lvl 15 is likely a lvl 30 player, a 30 lvl companion is likely a 60 lvl player).

Regarding the healing of the DC companion, her big healing is a % of YOUR health and it has a large cool down (30 seconds). Nevetheless, she also does a small heal linked to the damage she does (the third hit of Sacred Flame, 6+6+6 seconds). As she gain power with levels, this small heal also increases.

Its usless. Healing amount doesnt change its always about 5%.

The only thing i heard was it suvived little longer but we are talking seconds. The upgrade kits are just a money grab or something to waist AD on.

I hate it when people get ripped off. Stay away from the ZEN store

I upgraded mine, so far she's still just a green. But the other day I was running through the 'Root of the Problem' daily dungeon in the new Feywild, had about five or six Trolls charging me, and, wouldn't you know it, I disconnected. Growling, I logged back in, expecting to be dead, because that's what usually happens. Imagine my surprise when I was alive and only down to half health, there were dead trolls on the floor, and my cleric was just standing there and looking at me, like 'What?'

They must've update the AI a little too, because she's not going out of her way to set off every trap in existence (There's a reason I named her Lydia). She actually avoids them for the most part now.

Yeah, I've noted a reduction of "run into red zone" behavior. Not completely, but noticeably less often.

Yeah, the upgrade price is high, but not ridiculously out of sync with AD ones. Blues are 800k-900k, with upgrades to blue for the basics are 800k. Now, if spending that much AD is out of line, up to you. Luckily, everything is optional. I ran one char to lvl 60 without any external help, no problem ('cept for mount, but that's account wide) to see if it could be done. Had to skip a couple of nasty quests I couldn't solo (like the rime hound), though.

You can disagree with pricing, etc, but remember this is a game....... And it can be played without spending wicked money on it. If you get impatient, or want to rule PVP or DD's, it'll cost.

I upgraded a cleric to 30 on the test server. It will not heal for more and it does stay alive a bit longer. In Feywild the cleric will survive most of the time because this is a weak area and as long as you kill everything quickly it should survive pretty easily. I still don't think it will kill too many mobs for you. It really doesn't do much damage. Take that lvl 30 Cleric to Hotenow or the last quest area (I forgot the name) and it will still die pretty quickly. Feywild is very weak in comparison to these areas.

I upgraded quite a few companions and the only one I saw real improvement in was the Man-at-arms. Although I can't really be sure if he improved because I never used a lvl 15 one. In Feywild he lived and could solo some of the stronger mobs (Commanders and War Trolls). As long as the enemy doesn't have a fast attack speed and good damage he could usually kill it on his own. It took a while though. It was like watching nerds fight, neither one was really doing much to the other. The big thing I noticed was he could hold agro with no problem. He was a much better tank than the Galub. In the same nerd fight the Galub usually died and the mob would come after me quite often even though I wasn't hitting it. But....I have heard many times that the lvl 15 Man-at-arms was better at holding agro than the Galub, so this just gave it a lot more survivability. Is it really worth 1.55 million to upgrade it? No. It is not worth it to upgrade any of the companions. It is best we all just forget this was even added to the game. If you still want to upgrade I would recommend doing it on the test server first. Then you can see if you think the improvement is worth the insane cost.

My upgraded cleric is with a GF, which holds the aggro. Frankly, it's the only class I'd say needs one. I think CW+TR needs defender, DC, defender or striker, GWF striker. IMHO.

As a point of comparison, I was using a man-at-arms on a level 60 character in the Festival zone, and he was surviving and tanking nicely at rank 10, with no gear and no runes slotted. I haven't done any companion upgrades at all, but I've bought one of each of the common ones to fully level just because it does something with the quest XP I'm earning.
