It just sticks me as so odd that the character creation is so bad. When NW advertises for events and new content, they use the same ugly, meth head models. Maybe that could be why people don't want to play.
You know, the Free to Play comment was already addressed and shiny stuff is what sells. While looks might be minor, it is a major part of the game. You can avoid dungeons that bug or suck, but you can't avoid seeing other bad character models or your own.
I have been playing NW for a few weeks, and I love it, to me, the foundry has make a huge difference, it's virtually unlimited content.
There are 2 things that bug me a lot though. The instanced world and ugly character models. I'm not going into the instanced world now because I've given my opinion in other threads already, but what happened to character models?
I have played AION and TERA and even If I know that now ALL chars have to look like models, I have yet to find some good looking options in NW, it's like they took the time to make them ugly. At least for males, haven't made a female char yet. Most of them have too low mouths, even with the slider all the way up, weirdly rotated eyes, and look like they're always angry, not giving much choice in it.
CO had an amazing character customization, I only played STO a while but still I was able to make a nice char, so what happened in here? We need lots more options for character customization. The sliders barely move anything so most chars look the same, it's a real turn off for me and I'm sure for many others too.
Opinions, they are remarkable. While I agree that some of the sliders have little to no effect I cannot say I agree that the models are ugly. But, as I said, opinions are remarkable.
@Amorra Someone plays Tera. Or just have a picture from that game as an avatar.
You know, there is a lot of talent out there in the world just looking for a chance to get started. I wonder if PWE/Cryptic could hold a contest for new models. Give out a few bucks worth of stuff and get some great idea in return. I mean WoW did it for boss encounters.
Thought I'd throw my 2 cents in here, since the lacklustre character creator is the biggest disappointment I've had with NWN.
I agree with the opinion that the face & hair textures and models lack in detail, and that the character creator lacks in customisation options (sliders, etc).
Personally, I pay for my NWN experience, and I don't have any qualms paying for an appearance change token. Except, right now it's pointless, because my appearance will still look bland and pretty much the same no matter how many tokens I spend. And I'm a GOD when it comes to tweaking character appearance sliders, it's my favourite part of most RPGs and MMOs, I spend hours on it.
If NWN delivers on this, I'll happily pay up for tokens. And if NWN doesn't deliver, players like me will be attracted to some comparable MMO that does. Are we the kind of customers that are worth attracting & keeping? That's between Cryptic/PWE and their competitors.
