New Here: Feywild Pack or Zen

Hi everyone :)

I'm relatively new to Neverwinter (just about a week or two), but enjoying it quite a bit so far. I had a quick opinion question for ya'll if you have the time:

I'm planning on investing some cash into my characters, and initially I had planned on waiting until the 22nd and getting the Feywild pack. I figured new race, mount, character slot, and account-wide companion would be a nice package. However, alternatively I could purchase some zen and get similar items individually (minus the account wide companion and new race). I've also been really into the crafting system (darn my smartphone), and have an addiction to those zen store profession packs.

What would you guys buy? Wait for the pack or some straight out zen? Alternatively I guess I could buy both and live like a churchmouse for a little while. :p Any opinions are greatly appreciated.

i did did both, just depends on what you are looking for and if you have the extra money and don't need it. the game is ment to be fun, not take real life money that you may need...i only buy stuff when i have extra money or make choices in real life, ( not go get fast food or over priced coffee because i want x in game).. didn't really answer you question just what i think about it.

I just bought the Feywild pack. But, I've also invested in some Zen - traded for Astral Diamonds. I bought enough Zen to purchase a bank storage upgrade (600 Zen), the Ioun Stone companion (2000 Zen), and I'm gonna get a Greater Bag of Holding (24 slots) (1000 Zen).

The pack is decent for a starting account or if you have to have a moon elf and a unicorn mount. But, you can buy the cheapest level 3 mount, a Ioun stone, 2 toon slots, and a bag. for the amount the Feywild pack costs which will get you further in progression if that is your goal. The mount is something that is good for PVP and if you plan to level multiple toons. If you were just going to do PVE on one or 2 toons that zen for the mount could be spent elsewhere same goes for extra character slots. For me the best things I have purchased with zen is the Ioun stones and toon slots.

    Here's the thing to consider:

The pack includes: Purple Mount ($35-$40 in Z-Store) and a purple Companion ($35-$40 in Z-Store). BONUS: Unlike Z-Store Companions, this one is claimable on every character you ever create forever. This alone already covers the cost of the pack. Therefore the custom race, stones, eye-candy, titles, extra character slot, feel-good status and "it's all about me" bonus stuff is all, well - bonus.

Zen allows you to get all this stuff, too. But at a considerbly higher price for all of it, and some of it not at all (in terms of model designs; i.e. A Unicorn versus a "regular" armored horse) etc.

Now, armed with that perspective the decision is and most certainly should be yours and only yours to make. Because no matter what anyone here says, it's still a decision you make. :)

Thanks for all the input guys, it's much appreciated :). That's what I was looking for, different views on it! I think I will try and hold off until the Feywild pack comes out. I feel that if I bought more zen ahead, I'd just end up buying $50 worth of those darn profession boosters :P

Don't forget the 600,000 AD as well. Depending on shard and exchange rates. That is 1500 to 2000 Zen right there. So you get the goodies AND some zen.

I went through the exact same dilemma, but it was a while ago, the choice, Guardian pack or Zen.

So i weighed the pack up and to be honest 50% of the pack was useless imo, so i weighed up what i would actualy use from the pack.

First off, the Zen store mounts are Account wide and the cheapest rank 3 is 2500 Zen, so no advantage for a Pack mount, both are account wide.
Respec token, in zen store for 300 Zen, at my current shard exchange rate its just under 100,000 AD, so thats cheap enough.

Extra Character slot works out around 150,000 AD, but you get 2 slots for that in the Zen store, pack only gives 1

So i was left with it all boiling down to the companion, which was the dire wolf, and after alot of reserch and asking around, it soon became apparent that at lvl 60 most companions are basicaly useless, the only ones to use at lvl 60 are Stone of might, Stone of allure and Cat.

If you enter a dungeon with anything else 9 times out of 10 you will be asked to dismiss it, healer and striker companions agro mobs like crazy and if your doing any rock climibing in dungeons, which seems most do these days, your companion will walk around and more than likely pull alload of mobs along the way. not good.lol. And they all die pretty fast in end content, especially on boss fights.

I already had a stone on a character so i knew what i would be doing at 60 on other characters

So i decided on the Zen and for the same cost as the pack i ended up with around 6500 Zen, Bought a account wide mount and a stone of allure, and still had around 2000 Zen left. so i ended up with pretty much exactly what i would of done if i had bought the pack, except i got the companion and mount of my own choice.

So it depends what exactly you want from the pack. If you are just thinking of the mount and companion, i would honestly find a better companion that will be of alot more use, for lvling you just cant beat the 'free' cleric for most classes,( if it is set up right ) unless your a devoted Cleric then the man at arms is best. but thats just my own opinion and i have now 7 lvl 60's all in tier 2 BiS gear, 4 of which have Ioun Stone of Allures.

. . . . I'd go with the pack first (which I have), as it will eventually not be available while Zen always will be! Plus, with the 600,000 AD you get in the pack, you could turn around and sell it on the AD Exchange for Zen. At a rate (keep in mind it is a player-driven market, I forget the current amount, last time I bought Zen it was 333 per) of approx 335 AD per Zen, that equates to about 1,791 Zen.

. . . . I do have to admit though, the Knight pack is quite expensive... I saved up pop-bottles and other change here and there to afford it just because I really like the items within. But I was so close to just not buying it due to the fact it is over-priced in my opinion... it's the same price as a brand new single-player game! Alas, the Forgotten Realms addict in me took over and yeah, as my new avatar says... I gave in again.

That was said about the 'Foundry' pack, it was hyped and marketed as a totaly 'exclusive' pack for whom purchased it pre 'live' launch. It was stated as not being available after launch and you would get a 'exclusive' Spider mount and rare 'exclusive' Panther companion.

And what happened, After launch the pack was still available, except the pack name was changed to 'Hero of the North' and the 'Foundry;' Title was removed from the pack, otherwise pack contents were the same.. you stll got the 'exclusive' spider mount and Panther companion, and this is still available to this day, 3 months after launch.

I would imagine the Feywild pack, will always be available as it is a special pack for a Module and not a specific one off special event. it would not suprise me also if we see the mount and companion in the Zen store a few weeks after the module launch.

Most of the packs are just vantity items, apart from the AD they dont realy affect your game play, except for the rank 3 mount which makes a huge difference in PvP, so its down to how much disposable income you have got

Sadly in this 'free to play' game the only rare items that were 'exclusive' are probably the 'Caterday Survivor' items and title given out after the roll backs due to a number of exploits just before 'live' launch. these only went to characters that were created at that time and are all character bound. These you will not see again.

As for anything else in the game if it as a market it will be for sale eventualy although under a different name as we have seen previously.

The pack wasn't available after launch. They never said they wouldn't release a very similar pack after launch. Also, the original pack included other things the replacement pack didn't... guaranteed access to the beta weekends, and early access to the game compared to Guardian Pack purchasers and those that purchased no pack.

In any case, MMOs incentives presented as exclusives seldom maintain exclusivity in perpetuity.
