When I started playing in the open beta, on dragon, for 1 zen it was around 200ad.. Just a touch more. A few weeks ago, it was at 300/1 and hovered there for quite a while then crept up to 320ish and sat there for a week or so. Over night it spiked to the mid 350 range. Can't imagine the cost of things in another month or two if this keeps up. Does one think it will ever cap or like most economies, will it just keep creeping up never to stop? Just an observation I made. Not sure if the spike is due to instances having bosses leashed or what. I would have though that fix would have made ad more rare, thus making the ad/zen rate drop but rather it spiked rather sharply. Interesting none the less..
Who cares? Cryptic allowed a bug from STO to carry on to this game untouched. The economy is permanently broken in this game. Only when the bug went public on the forums and thousands of ppl abused it, did Cryptic even care to fix it.

The new healer promotion probably led to a lot of people changing AD to ZEN. It hit 360 on Dragon at one stage but is now back down to 345.

Ahh, now that you say that, it totally makes sense... I would have never thought of that since my luck sucks, thus, I am not even remotely the gambling type
500:1 it will get to cap soon they start making companion and keys sale now u have a lot of resell in game and will become a lot worse so after first companion or key sale price will jump to 400+ and stay there and after second on cap and after few more none will sell zen anymore since u will be able to earn a lot more ad on keys
My prediction is that it will go down. Way down, maybe even under 280. Then one week before Feywild it is going to skyrocket. Then when Feywild hits, it is going to be over 350 because the weekenders and P2P people will show up.
it should have been down by now. The AH and respec sinks should have removed alot of AD out of the economy. But since websites can sell millions every day, i assume Cryptic works with those websites to generate extra income by handing out generated AD through a Gamemaster or something.
Theoretically it takes 1 character 44 days to accumlate 1 million AD if that character reaches the 24k ad cap every day. But this game has been out for 80+ days, so even if ALL playable characters have reached refine AD cap all these days, then only 2 mil is generated per character. But since the 10% sink is so huge and not everyone reaches the cap it is odd to see the Zen/Ad prices staying around 350.

It's not so odd. Every time the exchange rate starts to dip, an event comes along that drives it back up for a while. There was a spike for the Alchemy bonus materials in packs, there was a spike for the pre-launch Zen store sale, there was a spike for double diamonds (just because people were feeling wealthy), and now there's a very rapid spike for the current thing. You can predict the fluctuations that go with events that are announced in advance, but this one did sorta come out of nowhere.
I think there was probably a spike for when the Adventurer's Helper Packs came with a bonus green version of the basic companions, but I wasn't paying close attention back then.
hmm, so in a year or so when I and anyone else who leaderships in downtime have ten+ characters all maxed, what will the conversion ratio look like? or will Cryptic just perma nerf crafting?
I am pretty sure they will perma-nerf leadership and invocation eventually if only because it is the easiest way for a lot of the RMT sites generate gold and AD.

I also think that leadership and invocation may be nerfed into the ground for currency reasons.
I'd also guess that there is currency arbitrage taking place as well (sell your zen when the AD rate is high, buy it back when the AD rate is low, netting more zen). A small but significant portion of the playerbase of MMOs plays them as a kind of day trading simulator, and I expect with the currency exchange play taking place, that is going on as well -- something which should, on the margins, prevent the rate from going either too high (at which point it would be tempting to sell zen, thus depressing the rate by increasing the supply of zen and the demand for AD marginally) or too low (at which point it would be tempting to buy zen, thus increasing the rate by increasing the demand for zen and the supply of AD marginally).

Don't forget that Cryptic has still been selling Guardian packs (and now Feywild packs) with 600k diamonds in them.

I haven't had a single character hit the 24k cap, except for a couple days during the "double AD" event (and that was just on my main). But I do have 8 characters doing invoking & leadership (and selling the Celestial Coin boxes every 7 days). 16k+ diamonds every 8 hours or so, plus ~180k every 7 days from the Celestial coins.
It's been down as far as 250:1, but has resurged as they've kept releasing things to inspire people to use the cash shop. Really, I'm not surprised at the rate staying as high as it has. (I know that in Star Trek Online, it apparently spent a long time in the 300:1 range... people talked about that on the forums when I started playing.)

If there is a lazy and greedy way to approach a situation, you can bet that's what they'll go for, so yes, they will probably nerf the hell out of it.

One thought I had was that Cryptic might remove the AD rewards for invocation, and make any wards and Bound to Character or Account, while also adding the chance to purchase (Bound) Green/Blue wards with Ardent Coins.
Same with Leadership - reduce or remove the AD/Gold rewards but Leadership tasks could give a new type of Seal that can be traded for useful Bound to Character/Account items (that are also unsellable to vendors).
These changes would still give people a major incentive to invoke and do leadership, but would stop RMT sites gaining from mass-botting.

It's because of the slim chance of getting a Lillend to drop from profession packs. The gambling types are going crazy.

Around Caturday, it did actually bob around near the 500:1 cap, just FYI.
