    Thanks! :)

It's good to see the additional info. It seems to me the Sun Elf is slightly better than the Moon Elf, as I think the 2% AP gain they offer is slightly better than what Moon Elves get, but really, the difference other than cosmetics and lore for the races is quite marginal.

And others remember what was said early on. Including a ton of people who are long gone when drow was given a pricetag of $200 to play. Can already see the pop dwindling fast. Now an expansion under a month into "release" with more ways to burn money. This game will be a ghost town in under 6 months.

Good thing I can keep playing the expansion and all it offers for free. I dont need a cosmetic elf race to play in the Feywilds.

Oh and Menzo Renegade has the $200 price tag to play, but Drow was always said to be coming at least 60 days after launch.

    2. New content is new content. You can side or up all you want. That doesn't change it is so.

All for profit companies are money hungry. Stop expecting them to act like charities.

I didnt cherry pick anything, he compared the pack to an actual expansion and i pointed out the flaw. New content is new content you are correct. If you are ok with "new content" being on the same level the game was at the start of open beta while 99% of the player base has trivilized every dungeon in the game and now just sits in PE with nothing to do. I dont expect them to be a charity, but i expect reasonable prices and there prices on EVERYTHING are just insane. Theres a difference between money hungry and price gouging and PWE price gouge like a HAMSTER.

You know, sweetheart, we live in a free market. There is only one mechanism here: supply and demand.
PWE supplies content both free and paid. You can choose:
    1. to never pay.
    2. to pay as much as you want.

When you come to the store you can buy the cheapest rice possible and or can buy rice in nice package with bells, whistle, organics and what not. It is up to you.
And it is to any person to decided whether they want to spend 10, 20, 50, 500 or 5000 bucks on a game.

What is not reasonable for you is reasonable for many others.

    On topic though,

Making cash-only race is acceptable as making cash-only content, cash-only items and cash-only access is acceptable. It is a way of making money. Don't want to spend money on it - don't buy it. Don't like the quality of offered product don't buy it. Don't like the rules of the game don't play it. Don't like the way it works work something on your own.

Whats funny about this is that almost every store has the "if you find it cheaper we'll match it" policy. So, yes you can walk into a store, complain about a price, and get it cheaper almost anywhere you go.

Well as far as classes go Jack Emmert did say "We're going to be adding new classes, that are 100% free, we don't charge for any of that." About the 1:20 point of the video linked below.

You know, I bought a purple mount as a convenience item, and the galeb duhr because I thought he was funny.

But I could very easily have spent $0 on this game and still had a grand old time.

If you want particular fluff and whatnot, more power to you, but this game in NO way requires you to buy anything. It doesn't even make life that much more difficult if you go free.

While I wish prices were arranged differently and some choices strike me as dumb... this is in NO way like eastern p2w games.

You can do the vast bulk of the game without spending a cent. (High level pvp is arguable -- tends to be the realm of exploiters and trying to get the bestestest stuff, so...)

I mean, what CAN'T you do right now without spending money (or grinding for mountains of AD)?

I think that it's not up to you to say what is core content. How do you expect them to make money? Can you please point me to the statement that was made saying they wouldn't charge for core content? If you can't afford the pack just say so, I do agree its a bit steep on price. But hey in a p2p game when you buy an expansion you would be paying 59.95 or so anyway and still be paying a subscription monthly! So if you look at it realistically its less money.

Hmm why would anyone buy a pack to begin with. I will never buy a pack I can afford it buy the answer is NO. I have spent some cash on the game bags, keys and some stuff I desired. Free 2 play which this game is and its not a pay 2 win game because there is nothing you need from the cash shop. Although if there is a benefit to be a moon elf and its only available from the cash shop and its the best race. Well. Then it becomes pay 2 win and you have to buy that class cause its the best. So its not a good path to go down and classes should never have to be bought and of course classes are core content that is just common sense really.

Water is wet, the sky is blue, core content has included free classes I thought everyone knew.

(Normal/common/base) Races and classes are supposed to be "basic" stuff needed to enjoy the game. Up until very recently, they were supposed to be free (except alternate versions and/or weird race selections). Maybe a stupid assumption but they are still "basic" for most people with a minimal interest in playing. The archives must still contain the uproar about the possibility of drow being only P2P race. And surely Moon Elves are not as rare as Avariels.

    Edit (stupid forum eating post)
Respecs are not basic per se; companions suck because of the basic mechanic being taken away in the name of the Zen Store and Bears are far from being basic mounts.

Yeah, but it's not like 'human unless you pay.' There will be three types of elves, one of which is pay-only. (And then two drow and half-elf).

I think that falls well within the realm of providing a reasonable list of options for free -- you can play an elf, just maybe not the particular variation you'd like.

Now, I can certainly understand FR purists going 'wait, MOON ELVES are the rare pay ones??'

    That's a fair complaint, but it's not specifically (IMO) a p2w complaint.

The difference between Sun Elf and Moon Elf is negligible - cosmetic at best.
And instead of 2% Action Point gain Moon Elves get 1% AP gain and 1% Stamina gain.
I don't even see how it's worth $60. It's certainly not worth QQing about.

according to the lore moon elves should be an int/wisdom race while sun elves should be a dex/con race, both different from normal elves in stats

anyway this is getting out of control, in most of other games cash items are appereance only...
i.e. usually successful buisness models charge cash for nothing more than this:
    - mount skin
    - dyes
    - dress
    - summon skins
    - aestethics in general (firey weapon instead of steel ones.. etc)

here just the fact that u can get AD with zen destroys the economy, not to mention p2w mounts / companions
    Most games? lol really?
"Most" f2p games will sell power/stats to item shop users, not just cosmetics. On top of that the cosmetics in other f2p games themselves give stats too . . .

OK, thanks for the link, that makes sense. It's not as big a deal then. Yet, it's kind of sad that races have become nothing more than cosmetics rather than a legitimate part of the character-building exercise.

Mind you, I still believe that dumping the race into the same pack with lots of other fluff one may or may not want is absolutely silly. Overly aggressive can easily suck the enjoyment out of an otherwise excellent game. I've seen game after game go from excellent to mildly annoying to ridiculous in terms of handling the F2P model. I sincerely hope that NW doesn't go down this slippery slope.

Thanks for the response, I will keep my hopes up at least until I see how the first paragon/class release is handled.

    @NW Forum Community:

    Hey guys,

Thanks for your (largely un-)constructive feedback, and for helping the admins notice this thread. I will not respond to the (obvious troll) posts individually, but I'll say this.

I've spent hundreds of dollars on MMOs before. However, I prefer to do so in enjoyment, not because the publisher forces my hand. I have also noticed that aggressiveness of marketing is usually inversely proportional to the quality of the game - at least for F2P MMOs. I may not be spending as much time on the game as some of you are, what with numerous life commitments, but I do love the world to bits and place high hopes on the game's future ever since DDO went to hell (for me).

Thus, I have been vocal on the F2P system issue even before the Alpha was rolled out, and will continue to do so, because I believe that this is for the benefit of the game. The lively discussion in this thread is a testament to the issue's relevance.

    Cheers and thanks again,

What isn't acceptable is the entitled attitude a lot of people have with wanting every single thing for free. The game has to make a profit or it shuts down. Free to play or not.

I disagree, I think that this is a sign of whats to come, they will eventually charge for everything in one for or another. They are slowly forcing you to buy AD and at some point, MOST people will either have to buy them or quit playing.

Ok, they arent that greedy, just a small group of devs trying to make a living off a game while paying WoTC royalties and paying their publisher fees.
Would you like working for absolutely no pay? I do not think so. These people have families and have to feed them and keep a roof over there heads just like everyone else.

Im not trying to be mean just realistic.

I seriously doubt that the DEV's have any power over what decisions are being made in Neverwinter. If they do, its because they are making a % of the profits and just don't care about the community. The DEVs are just doing there job as almost always is the case. The fact that they spend more time on direct profitable content as opposed to content fixes which are desperately needed, is a sign of one of the two previously mentioned statements. The way I see it, Perfect World is using this game as a cash shop, and as such, they are hitting it for as much as they can before people start leaving or flooding to another game. They realize that eventually people will leave for the next best thing unless they can manage to keep us around using more misdirection methods.

Umm... people already buy AD through the AD exchange. Also if you have a question or issue you want answered please post it here. Andre and I will be interviewing Devs soon and we are taking community questions.
