Heated debate in here. I'm on the verge of buying a Stone myself...but the fact that the cat slightly edges it stat-wise has me second guessing. However if the cat does die then it makes sense to buy the stone, no cat = no stats

If the Cat is getting a discount and considering the price of zen is currently inflated due to people buying them up for keys, the Ioun Stone of Allure will only be around 100k cheaper. Of course, it doesn't die unlike the cat so there is that....
If you buy the Ioun Stone of Allure can you use it with all characters on your account? (similar to buying the 2500 zen epic mount that you can claim on all your characters)?
or do you have to buy a separate stone for each character you have?

Sadly no. All companion purchases are one-time-use-only. (The only account-bound companions are those that come with the non-Zen-Store packs.)

So it makes no difference whatsoever if you buy your Ioun Stone of Allure on the Zen market vs buying it on the regular AH through raw AD?
Meh.
These types of sketchy F2P incentives really make me cringe. This is why I prefer subscription based games...there's way less scamming bull**** involved. Ugh.
I used cat for 2 month, it never died with me. ~100 runs in CN and countless for DD t2. So keep your facepalm with you.
:P
On topic. The cat obviously can die. The cat does however min/max stats "slightly" better. The cat is significantly more expensive. Does feywild happen to have any epic belts with offensive slots? And I'm pretty sure I saw a DC set with armor pen, so maybe there will be an OH with armor pen on it as well.
So I'm about to cave to buy a Stone or Cat. After this patch, has anything changed? Or is the cat still slightly better for CW's stat wise with the tradeoff being that the cat has a chance of dying?
Really a pain in the *** you can't share companions with other characters on your account. I.E. only buy one stone to use on all your characters. Money grubbers.

Cat got cheaper by 147k AD. Cat also gained a horrible moo'ing sound effect that cannot be turned off. It still has a chance to die too, ofc.
So, about cat dying. I just bought one and its still Rank 1 (so it has around 2500 Life). I was in an instanced mission and was running around floor traps making the cat step on them, yet after being hit 15 or so times (I gave up afterwards), no damage showed on screen and the cat was still alive.
Maybe there's a bug that causes it to die, or falling off a cliff is the only way to die? If that's true, Stone should die, too, since, even though it's invisible, you are still followed by a figure which is the actual companion, and I assume it has the same AI as the Cat.

Cat tends to die most frequently from enemy ground aoe. Very rarely does it die from edges. In fact, I cannot remember the last time it died from an edge - it may even have been patched out.
People telling you that Stone does not die is not because they are theorycrafting it or expecting behavior based on other companions. Stone is by far the most popular level 60 augment companion due to the previous cost compared to Cat. It just never dies. If it did someone, somewhere would have noted it. Maybe Stone has a different underlying model, maybe the Cat is just bugged, who knows. It does not change the empirical evidence from the community.
That said, a max rank Cat does not die enough for you to ever even consider regretting purchasing it. It is not something that is worth discussing other than a very very minor difference to the Stone since people are making a costly one-time investment (sometimes with real money)...

Actually, I've seen a post in one of the Cat vs Ion threads that claimed their Stone died and had a couple of former guildmates say the same, but I've never experienced this with either my cat or stone. Still, how can anyone be 100% sure that their Stone never died when it has no icon or healthbar, its model is invisible and you have to constantly pay attention to your buff bar to see if it's active. It can easily die and the battle would be over before you noticing anything, especially since you still see the blue orb which makes you think it's active.

You can argue much the same for the Cat. It follows behind you after all.
The reason why it is easy to know if the Cat dies is because you get a very obvious center screen message in red lettering saying that your companion died unexpectedly and needs to be re-summoned.
Also, many players use pets for defensive stats. So, even if that message was not there, you could tell in pve quite quickly if you suddenly died from something you can normally survive.
Also, the cat makes that really annoying whine sound. So for me, a little blue ball that doesn't nag the **** out of me is a much better choice.
I think in the end it is more about personal preference than anything else. My personal preference is to minimize annoying animal sounds in my game. So, I didn't get the Howler mount, even though it is arguably the coolest looking one. I also got the stone instead of the cat. If you own pets, cats especially, get the stone. It freaks my cats out whenever I'm in PE and somebody's cat makes that 'whiney cat sound'.
Hopefully, they'll fix the cat sound (which is actually the same sound the tiger mounts make, so it must be a bug), but in the mean time, lowering Fx volume did the trick for me.

Cheaper by 250k-350k astral diamonds depending on the zen/diamond exchange rate. It also does not die like the cat does.
The stats/item slots are competitive and is pretty much a wash.
To anyone who is starting or has just came up with some diamonds, I would strongly recommend buying an Ioun Stone of Allure over a cat

It is not easy for the cat to die, not at all...
For me the deciding factor is cost.
Dancing Shield, Dancing Blade, and Cat Companions in Wondrous Bazaar have their price reduced by 15%.

There are already at least three Icons with Armor Penetration in the game. One of them even has 266 ArP with an offense slot.
[Icon of the Holy Defender]
Reason why most players do not find it is because it is a Rare (i.e. blue) and it is level 55 not level 60. I have no idea where it drops from.
Is there a way to not have it be visible, while still having it summoned?

Have we seen all the available items yet or are there some randoms that we might not know about?
