We'll have more information on that soon.

I do not believe they are ready to release the plans for the Vanilla Drow race just yet but regardless of whether it's at least 60 days after Launch of Open Beta it is subject to change.

My own personal and completely unconfirmed hunch is that they plan to release Vanilla Drow side by side with some sort of content pack/quest line, likely Module 1.

EDIT - Since the Drow were initially made temporarily exclusive the wording has always been "At least 60 days after launch." The confusion comes from whether they consider the "soft launch" the launch.

I have no conclusive confirmation but June 20 is the official "launch."

Even if you didn't have any real information to provide I really appreciate your prescence in the thread. Every little thing from Admins or Devs kind of helps. :)
Hope the more information will indeed come soon - the game is launching (again) in just a few days and so much is unknown to us.

Side note; If they (sort of) go back on their original statements (sneaky phrased) and release the Drow together with Module 1, as well as.. say... the Ranger class... there's gonna be a disturbing amount of Male Drow Rangers running around with the name Drizzt... so very annoying :P
Saw a Raistlin Majere the other day and the fanboy in me almost got offended - he was unworthy! :P

And what is the difference between a MR Drow and a regular?

Also, are they making an effort to be evil? Or are drow just another adventurer like all the other player characters?

They're regular adventurers. We can only choose from the same list of deities as the other races, and all the deities on that list are either Lawful Good, Good, or Unaligned. I don't think they'll do anything differently for vanilla Drow.

(If you've played the game, you'll know that most of the quests within the game cast the PCs as heroes (read: good), and there are no branching paths in which one can choose to be evil within the game.)

If you read the post you quoted, they quoted the Neverwinter Extended FAQ saying "The Menzo-Renegade look, tattoo, racial background, racial ability, and special companion will remain permanently exclusive to Hero of the North Pack purchases."

The background is the Northdark region background(s), I think, but that's open to all races on a HotN account.

I believe "faerie fire" is the racial ability they're talking about.

The special companion (the panther) is not unique to drow characters, but to the HotN pack. All my characters have used the panther companion prior to level 16, regardless of their race.

I wonder if the vanilla Drow will be treated as a separate race or lumped into Menzo-Renegades for HotN players?

Are you on Dragon? I think I've also spotted a Raistlin Majere running around. But no unique names means there could be half a dozen of them... As for Drizzt, well they are a dime a dozen (I have even seen a female Drizzt running around!). But that's pretty par for the course for any game that allows elves or dark elves or Drow-like elves. He's a popular character.

I think I turned off viewing non-team/guild names when I saw a Goku, the character creator doesn't even let you make a worthwhile clone (as opposed to how easy it is in CO). Other than that, I think I've seen most of the semi-popular fantasy character names used.

I'm not naming my drow after Drizzt but I don't have a problem with Drizzzzzt779 fans. RA Salvatore put drow on the map like Tolkien did for elves. I'm not poking fun of the map - I like it.

    Thx for the info myrmeenlhal.

Firstly I apologise if any official clarification on this has been made; I have not seen it yet, despite looking, just browsed 10+ pages of threads and dont recall the FAQ to be very specific, they dont answer on Twitter/FB, but...

Will the Drow race be available to non-Founders 60ish days after the open beta launch, or after the official launch planned to arrive soon?
They were (rightly so, sure) promised exclusive access for atleast 60 days, wich imo started the first day of their early access of the open beta...?

Does anyone, maybe a forum admin, have any real information on this?
I know alot of people actually waiting to play classes cause they plan to play them as Drow and since no word has really reached us about a coming Race Change or the like, it would really help to know how long we have to wait.

Quoted from Founder Pack "More Info"

Only Heroes of the North will receive exclusive access to the
MENZOBERRANZAN RENEGADE a unique playable race armed with the "Faerie Fire" racial ability and tattoo cosmetic option. Explore the realm of Faer

Not sure what the post above me is meant to convey. We all already know that info. OP was asking when Drow were going to be in game and what the difference between Menzo and Drow are. I don't think we really know how Vanilla Drow are going to differ from the Menzo and as far as timing, the most recent information on the Twitter feed was at least 60 days from June 20th. Whether that is the final word, or not, no one knows. Originally it was said 60 days from the start of OB which would be very soon. They seem to have changed their minds on that.

I do not seem to be able to make it embed but here it is:

    <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p><a href="https://twitter.com/Laynesmart">@Laynesmart</a&gt; <a href="https://twitter.com/amorpostmortem">@amorpostmortem</a&gt; At least 60 days after June 20th.</p>— Neverwinter (@NeverwinterGame) <a href=" 13, 2013</a></blockquote>

Their word was at least 60 days post launch.

Officially that's tomorrow. They didn't go back on their word, you assumed launch was when Open Beta went public.

Who knows, that could be the case; they still haven't confirmed either way...

But officially Launch is June 20, 2013.

Odd then how so many players recall seeing them talking about the open beta launch date, releasing Drow after 60 day after Founders could get Drow Renegades and early access - it was part of the pitch to sell Founder packs. Now Founders get, what, exclusive rights to play drow for almost 4 months instead of 2..? Nothing against Founders, they helped support this game we like (as have I, via Zen purchases of similar amounts) but thats... That's bad, bad customer relations.
The sooner they launch Drow (wich are already in the game) the sooner people buy char slots and zen stuff and they make more money and we, the players, have more fun, instead of waiting for something that could've been in the game from the start. Unless they implement Race Change, wich would sort of solve this problem in part, but I'm not holding my breath.

I do get that you want to defend it tho, I really do, I (and others) just view this as kind of shady.

I fully agree with this. As much as I despise PWE's insane pricing for most things on the zen store, I was looking forward to doing a character unlock so I could finally play as a drow CW. Now I find myself lacking the inclination to wait for 60 days after some unknown "release".

Considering the vast amount of customers (paying or not) who seem to want this it's almost comical how poorly they present any real information to us, like a set date for Drow launch (or even any info about it at all, besides "2 months") - and instead tease us endlessly with this module 1. Nobody likes a tease. Especially a tease with hidden pricetags everywhere.

Well we are 3 weeks out from 60 days since the "Launch" of the game and about to get Module 1.

So any word on whether the "Vanilla" Drow will be released to the public.
