It could vary with level. The golems have AoE damage with some strong attacks so yeah I guess they are extremely hard at higher levels?
The main issue is the fact that guard encounters do not dodge out of the AOE. Also there is a big AOE when one dies that, while a player can avoid it most of the nearby friendly encounters will take it.
Neverwinter players are stubborn things....until you strip them down to bone. (Cursed players, my flowers, MINE!) Oh how I plotted their demise.

Very good point. I'm also hearing the red water plane over the floor makes the red circles difficult to see. Thank you for your feedback, it is very valuable to me, and highly appreciated.

If you search for water under details you'll find lots of different planes of water. Some of them are red. That's what you're seeing here.
