Non-Conq GF viable in T2s?

My tank is currently on the Conqueror path. I feel pretty squishy now in T2 dungeons despite mt GS showing 10k (conqueror skews that right?).

Having read around that tanks must be DPSers, is it viable to go down the actual tanking lines and become very survivable?

I'm a little confused, tanks are useless unless they face tank and DPS? What about a classic tank from the other Paragon lines?

Any input from those who have/do play one would be great.

Nope. You'll be beefy but you wont be getting hit. The reason why Conq GF is the best tank right now is because it's high DPS draws aggro.

Pretty much this. Tactician is great for buffing and debuffing, but only if you've got another conq specced GF in the group to hold aggro or if everyone knows you're a buff-bot specced GF.

And yes, conq spec throws your GS WAAAAY off. If you're at 10k with conq spec, you probably dont even have a full t1 set with enchants. My conq GF was at 10.5 with nothing but the pvp set, no enchants.

Tactician will be great once cleric aggro is fixed.
Not sure about the other path.

Proteciton is basically garbage.

1. Plate Agility is good but you can get it in any spec.
2. Shield Defense is broken and only is giving 1 AC instead of 5.
3. Shield Master's extra Guard mitigation is nice but with everything in T2 one shotting your shield even with this it doesn't matter.
4. Balanced Shield Master requires Guard up which can't be maintained via the damage taken so you lose out on the dmg done.
5. Iron Guard only works on non Guarded attacks in a tree designed to use your Guard.

Basically there's nothing that it offers that you can't already get going Conqueror spec. Tactician is interesting and certainly has a few feats that are pretty decent but ultimately I think anything you get from the tree outside of CC is better gained through Conqueror. You'll certainly still deal more damage in Conqueror and that damage will translate into high AP gain (I mean all you have to do is block for 1 second and your AP bar is full even without Action Surge). Sure you temporarily lose Reckless Attacker (no guard, no dmg bonus) but with Stalwart Bulwark set you're still rocking over 10000 Power which is more than enough to keep going (especially when you can spam Villain's Menace).

The Conquerer tree is just hard to beat even after the fact just because the other options are trash by comparison. The main fix to Conquerer threat will be that Stalwart Bulwark or full on crazy mode DPS gear will no longer be required to tank the extreme end high DPS Rogues.

What's your Strength? Because my guard meter is just as useful in t2s as it had been in the rest of the game.

Tactician Issues

Fight On 5
Encounter power cooldowns reduced by 2/4/6/8/10%.
Works

Crushing Pin 5
Your Control powers cause the target to take 2/4/6/8/10% bonus damage for 3 seconds.
This sucks as it lasts so little as to be negligible. BTW only works on trash mobs and players. Mark does not count for this either lol.

Tier 2
Daunting Challenge 5
Marked targets now deal 2/4/6/8/10% less damage to your allies, but still deal full damage to you.
This works with the main taunt; I am pretty sure if you use the charge taunt it does not. Which makes it suck.

Battle Trample 5
When Trample The Fallen would cause you to deal more damage, you also gain 5/10/15/20/25% of your weapon damage in Threat and deal 5/10/15/20/25% of your weapon damage as Physical Damage.
If you care to parse this, you will realize that it ends up providing almost no increase in dps, there are other class passives that are better

Tier 3
Inspiring Leader 5
Into The Fray increases your party's damage by 1/2/3/4/5%.
Pretty sure this works but have not feated it to test (done spending money testing broken feats)

Powerful Strike 5
Lunging Strike provides 4/8/12/16/20% more Threat and has a 20/40/60/80/100% chance to Interrupt your target.
This one actually does work in pvp however, it ends up sucking because every time you use lunging strike on a caster in pvp they ALWAYS try to dodge immediately afterwards, in which case they are not casting anyways and so really they silence themselves automatically. It does work in PVE against trash mobs like wights that do AOE life drain but as soon as you fight a boss/large mob it is ineffective and worthless.

Also the threat increase is stupid because without conqueror paragon capstone you will not have enough threat anyways so 20% increase to HAMSTER threat = still HAMSTER threat

Tier 4
Surging Tide 5
Tide of Iron's debuff also reduces the amount of Physical damage dealt to you by 2/4/6/8/10%.
Keep in mind, many damage types are flagged as non physical, i.e. arcane, psychic, cold, etc, in which case this does nothing at all. Also it would be useful to have this in the protection tree but it is here instead

Terrifying Menace 5
Anvil of Doom now has a 20/40/60/80/100% chance to Stun the target for 1 second.
Anvil of Doom sucks unless you have conqueror capstone for 100% power lol...so 1 second stun is nothing. Again, only useful in pvp or on trash

Tier 5
Martial Mastery 1
Taking damage while not using Guard now builds Action Points. You gain a bonus to this value based on your Damage Resistance.
This works but it is so extremely slow it is almost impossible to tell you are gaining extra AP. Also it seems to be capped at a certain amount of maximum gain per couple seconds. I tested with 5 melee mobs and it seems like about half of the mobs' hits did not increase AP. This should supposedly be a good feat to have, however, with the lack of damage even if you somehow manage to get 100% ap quickly, your dailies are still not going to do much damage anyways compared to a conq. specced gf which I guarantee can build AP just as fast as a tactician
