Hey all! danthescot, aka DanIsTheMan from The Porting Team has put together a sweet Neverwinter Wine package for Mac owners using
Wineskin.
I've tested it and can confirm it's quite lovely using
WineBottler!
So pop on over to ->
The Porting Team website and follow Dan's easy guide to download and install.
It's all wrapped up for you if you want it, and acts just like the Windows client.
Dan warns though, "The game doesn't perform well on 10.7.5 for AMD users and WILL require an update to 10.8 in order to comfortably play the game".
I can speak personally on this, as I was using 10.7.5, and have the AMD video. Apparently the AMD video drivers in 10.7.5 aren't too smashing! It was unplayable until I updated to Mountain Lion 10.8.3. Then suddenly it was loading up fast and begging me to play! You see, I own a plain little 2011 Mac mini and I did turn down many of the video setting to get the fastest gameplay from the client, but it's beautiful even turned down, no complaints here! So, this is a big FYI for Mac owners who want to check it out.
Just follow Dan's instructions closely, there are very few steps, and nothing technical. No terminal use. No previous Wine knowhow. No problems (for me at least).
This thread isn't meant to attract Mac flamers, so please play nice. I'm passing this along for Dan who has just created his Neverwinter account and can't start new posts yet.
Big thanks to Dan!
Enjoy Neverwinter,
Aescleal

I'd just like to mention that Wineskin has been used to 'port' this game in order to run on Mac OSX. In case some of you don't all ready know, it is considered a port as it is a wrapper, similar to cider wrappers, that of course allows certain games to run through wine. Visit http://portingteam.com/ or http://wineskin.urgesoftware.com/tiki-index.php for more information!
Please remember to read the instructions on the portingteam carefully, and have a look at the 'known issues' area if you encounter any issues (as the issue may all ready have a solution).
I too would appreciate if this thread was Sticky'd!
Have fun!
- Dan.

I'm not sure what the difference is, but rather than use the advanced video settings with most things turned down or off, I've opted to just use basic video options and then move the bottom slider to the far left for speed.
This seems to have improved my performance significantly. It was good the way it was, but better now. Actually, I use the same settings on my 6 year old windows computer, and I don't think I can tell the difference between Mac and PC while playing the game.
Oh, and one other thing that did help performance on the Mac was to make sure the game resolution was set to the same as my monitor resolution. The default resolution in Neverwinter was set at 1080, and my actual res was only 960. I lowered game res and immediately saw an improvement. But the largest improvement was using basic video settings in options, and moving the bottom slider to the speed setting.
I hope this helps somebody else. Being able to play from our Mac means my wife and I can both play Neverwinter.
Thanks DanTheScot
I also run Star Trek Online in a similar way and this still runs fine even after updating to Legend of Romulus.
I have checked and confirmed that both Wineskins are using exactly the same settings. I tried with the better graphics and the reduced graphics options - no difference.
Any ideas please?
Edit - I downloaded the latest version of the Wineskin (the one intended for Neverwinter this time rather than a copy of the STO one). The game now loads up and lets me login correctly.
Unfortunately, it is still too unresponsive to be playable.
Oddly enough, STO is perfectly playable, even at a higher resolution than I was using with Neverwinter. I wonder why that is? Presumably PW are using the same game engine for both games?
Now says in one of the Known Errors about dragging from the DMG to the Desktop so your not running fram the DMG, Im not sure how to drag from the DMG or if im even properly using the DMG to get to the launcher.
I have Wineskin Winery - Wineskin-2.5.9 on my desktop is there something else that should be there trying to run this Setup File?
EDIT: Got the Wrapper to accept the Setup File from the Downloads section. When the Wrapper is launched it just gives the Cryptic Error report
EDIT #2: Just redid the wrapper and each time I launch it I get the Cryptic Error
Using Engine WS9Win1.6-rc1X
EDIT: Just wanted to say that if you follow the directions and check the known issues like the guide says then this will work and run like a dream!!! Sooooo awesome.
I followed the instructions in Dan's site, but instead I did it for the Launcher (Arcinstaller.exe). Created the app, launched it. then nothing happens.
Any ideas?
I am not sure if this makes a difference, but the game is also crashing in the same spot when I run it in CrossOver 12.5 which also was working fine before.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated (I hate having to reboot into Windoze to play)
