Does the choice of Deity and Origin do anything or is it just for lore purposes

I believe you get a title that fits too, though that's really fluff.

I'm curious if there is a way to see what you chose though, i know you can see your deity, but not origin that i know of.

I could be wrong, but I've always assumed that the diety you choose effects the results of your invocation. But as I said, that's just an assumption.

I've yet to see anything related to origin, and its sub-components.

Origin and Deity currently ONLY gives you unique titles and a default background description text for your character.

We did want to make it a reasonable place to expand on in the future if we had something significant we felt we had to add.

    Here's an idea...

Healing scrolls (make them uncommon or rare) that are diety specific. The benefit of the scrolls would be that they are a hybrid between insta heal, and heal over time as a bonus. You could take it a step further, anybody can use it for the insta heal, but only gets the HoT if it's tied to their diety.

I cannot wait for this to be expanded upon. The Gods of the Realms are my most favorite thing about the Realms, the Mystryl Entity in particular.

If you do that then I hope we can alter the choice through one of the respec interfaces.

This would be cool. There are a lot of possibilities like quest lines, languages, altars (like EQ2), profession guilds, factions, and so on.

. . . . . Mystryl is the name of her first incarnation, when she was both the Goddess of Time and Magic - through which she was able to foresee all her possible futures. When she self-resurrected herself after the casting of Karsus' Avatar, she changed her name to Mystra (second incarnation) and reshaped the laws of magic, barring 10th-12th level mage spells. When she perished during the Time of the Troubles, she poured her essence into the mortal Midnight who then was absorbed into Mystra and became the third incarnation of Mystra.
Now, she is dormant again and will (in D&D Next) be returning in an unknown fourth incarnation.

It would be cool if you actually had a hand in helping the latest incarnate of Mystra.

4th edition is to D&D as The Spirits Within is to Final Fantasy.

Account retired August 22, 2013. May Perfect World choke on the exploited Nightmare mounts.

. . . . . According to Ed Greenwood, many players and Dungeon Masters will somehow have a hand in shaping the future of the Realms. How this will unfold, I am not sure. What I have been hoping is that Neverwinter Online's Timeline will progress and advance to the D&D Next Timeline and the upcoming Third Sundering. In which, it made me think of Ed's statement and has left me hoping that Neverwinter Online might be one of those mediums for players to shape the future of the Realms. Slightly off topic but still about the Gods. Apologies.

. . . . . You can! His true name is Amaunator. When the Spellplague hit and all the gods were shoved into the Astral Sea, it was found out that Lathander was actually the elder sun god Amaunator, in disguise. Because the Spellplague destroyed his illusion, he has now retaken his former and original name. Many other Gods were also affected and caught posing as other Gods. Solonar Thelandira, Corellon's current Consort, for example was found to actually be Selune. Many gods died, some were absorbed into other gods also.

I'm looking forward to reading those books too:

    The Companions - R.A. Salvatore
The Godborn - Paul S. Kemp
The Adversary - Erin M. Evans
The Reaver - Richard Lee Byers
    The Sentinel - Troy Denning
    The Herald - Ed Greenwood

Wonder how much things will change.

Me, too. :( I was kind of surprised to not see him included.

    Mystra might be popular, too.
