Bas*ard - it's legitimate name of a sword! Yeah, it can be offensive as "son out of marriage" but still not profane
S*ck - I can understand, but seriously, what does vacuum cleaner do? It s*cks... (earlier post about s*cking soul inspired me)
D*mn - maybe not D&D but there is in one of fantasy universes something like "Cult of the Damned". Also, "damnation" is normal word.
P*ss - I had to replace it to "annoy" which doesn't really sounds like someone angry "You annoy me"... LOL

I agree with the first three...
As mentioned before too, "bas*ard" is not only a legitimate sword, but also a classical D&D sword... perfect for Fighters and Barbarians as it can be wielded with either one or two hands, its like the most cliche sword ever!
As for the word "s*ck"... well that sucks... tell me, in the realm of digital Faerun, what do Vampires do? (not that they are in the game :P)
On the Wizards site there is a creature called Dead Life, who has an item (officially) called "Bagpipes of the D*mned"
Also the official 3.5 book "Complete Mage" has a spell called "Deafening Blast" that has the following description:
"A deafening blast of sound, louder than thunder and more piercing that the shrieks of the d*mned, erupts where you point."
Also on the note of "bas*art", I would not like to read Song of Ice an Fire (Game of Thrones) with NWO filtering :P
"Jon Snow, the 'son out of marriage' of Ned Stark..." :P then again, Martin also uses "baseborn" as a kinder way of saying it, also "illegitimate son" could be used, though only by well spoken NPCs
"p*ss" is in many places considdered offensive, like my mom's house :P
PS. This forum isn't letting me spell "cliche" correctly, if I do, it cuts off the rest of the post...

Is a legitimate word in medieval times as well. Yes it may be a bit crass but how often do you read/hear in books/movies of someone in this time period having to go "urinate, or tinkle, or pee pee?" Not very often.
I can maybe understand filtering this in game chat where people might call each other idiots as a personal insult, but it's a bit ridiculous that I can't put it in my quest to describe an NPC that is very much an idiot.
I've replaced it with fool and buffoon in other areas but it's just a bit crazy that I can't have one NPC refer to another as an idiot.
You kidding me? Whats the poitn of this censuring overzeal? <censored> is a normall word for a son not from the marriage. And "<font color="orange">HAMSTER</font>" is describing a cursed person. Soon we will all be writing dialogues like:
- hey, little man with beard
- oh hello wonderfull day
- yes, i love everyone
- oh me too.
- pony pony, flowers
- ohhh i love ponies and flowers.
or even better:
- i will destroy you, bad bad son not from the marriage!
- oh ho! you can try you evil bad monster!
etc... This sounds like a parody.
I was trying to use the word "erect" as in they were able to erect a makeshift barricade, and that got censored out, it is a little overtuned.
Alright I figured out the issue. You apparently can't put a number before the word cup...
That's probably a reference to 2girls1cup ..
Weirdest word I've ever had blocked was "fion"
I don't even know in what language that's supposed to be a swear word.

Hi, I'm trying to use the following for my campaign description, and I'm getting the error-thing that there are profane words...
"What started out as a simple escort mission has turned you into the hero of the hour. Throughout this campaign, you'll discover of a sinister plot to takeover the city's guard, and you'll put a stop to it. This campaign is solo-oriented, but can be completed in groups if you'd like. I suggest you pack your bags with health potions, because you may need them! This is my first campaign ever. I hope you enjoy it! If you like it, please write a review. That'd mean a lot to me "
I was trying to create a character that was all golem like and slippery... The dialog was SSssssoooo humanz" ..etc
The profanity filter tagged a group of "ssssssss's" as profanity..!?!
I had to remove it before i could publish.
I was caught by the profanity filter for writing the word "put" followed by the word "a" with a space in between.
This is a pretty clear example of extremely common speech patterns that should not be banned, due to a mild resemblance to a foreign swear word. Seems to be dialled up a bit too high.

Hilarious thread. I think it won't be long before political correctness has us all doing verbal hopscotch, dancing around like fools. Like Pinocchio trying not to lie in 'Shrek". :P
Yep, I have to agree with Screamingpalm, this is a very funny thread.
As frustrating as it is when that little angry triangle pops up, it is making for some great stories..., still laughing at 1. cup.
I had some dialogue is was reporting as profane and I couldn't for the life of me figure out which word it didn't like. I had to start randomly pulling words out. The culprit? "Hard". What?!
I know..... I had one I was working on designing yesterday. Not the exact wording in the dialogue, but close: "As he died, he cursed his killer."
Can you guess which word it picked up on?... You got it: cursed.
Don't get me wrong, but I wasn't using it to refer to the section of language we colloquially call 'blue' or 'curse words.' I was referring to the act of inflicting malicious energies and/or misfortune on another.

Wow, I just realized my quest had been taken down for 3 weeks because of the word "master". My friggen quest is called Master Wa and I have 34 lines that reference this. Is this a JOKE????
"I'll be condemned to an eternity of pain and torment."
Hm...
Lol, according to this new filter your first statement is profane. You used the profane word "child". You will have to re-write.

I wonder if Cryptic will ever even bother reading this thread, let alone do anything about. I try to be create to get around these, but it's annoying.
So right now I can't say things in NPC convos like...
"The d*mn wizard."
"He will s*ck the life right out of your body."
"Her b*stard child is one to be feared."
It really sounds cheesy to type...
"That darn wizard."
"He will suction the life right out of your body."
"Her fatherless child is one to be feared."
So I have to re-write things...
"Curse that wizard."
"He will rip the life right out of your body."
"Her evil spawn of a child is one to be feared."
It stinks, but at least there's a workaround. I still wish they'd remove the PG-13 filtered words.

Agreed. If someone really wanted to use the word "erect" in a profane way, there are WAY better words for that, lol.

What are the profane words there?

I thought that was peculiar..
I think the filter should be optional.

No! It's a sword that was born outside the marriage!
Come on, Cryptic. A filter is fine, but an overzealous one is silly.
