F2P model misunderstood. Someone explain how this is remotely fair.

Not having a normal paycheck, steady set income, sub wouldn't work for me. I like that I will be able to come in and play any time, at my pace, have fun with what I can get, either by playing the game or what I might be able to purchase when I can, but not limited by what I can't buy. I can still have a great time riding a slow mount or none at all, wearing the beat up armor, with a 15th lvl cleric companion. Makes no difference as long as I can come in and relax and enjoy the game with friends I will no doubt make in here, much as in previous Neverwinter games. For me it will be the time spent with these new friends, the exploration of the world others have created for us, and the excitement of all of the epic (and maybe not-so-epic) battles we will face together. For me that sums up F2P. And if I can do that, then I win.

So to unlock my first epic item tomorrow i will indeed need to spend money in the store?

    That's a true, buzz kill...

You don't have to.... You can earn Astral Diamonds and then trade them for Zen in the auction system. Once you have Zen that way you can buy the key or what have you that you want. It just requires grinding and time which people seem to be claiming is what they want. Right?

not liking this triple currency system they've got going on.
Should've been simply AD and Zen. Gold is useless or allow us to trade it for bloody AD's.

GW2 kind of had it right allowing you to convert gold to gemd but that soon went to **** when the gold farmers were 2109049 times cheaper than arenanets extortion.

I reckon let us exchange our useless gold for Ad's. We will be happy and continue playing this humdrum linear trek fest.

Except if your friends spend money and dont want to wait for your 1/3 slower movement, your less bag space, lousy companion, and gimped armor self dragging them down through the whole of the adventure when they could get someone that has spent money and be alot better off.......
If I havent offended you today....dont worry!!!....there's always tomorrow. Of course, you could also go to here for all I care.

Haven't played this yet, so I'm not familiar with the things you can buy for gold, but.... the triple currency (energy credits - dilithium - zen) seems to work for Star Trek Online..
GW2 kind of had it right allowing you to convert gold to gemd but that soon went to **** when the gold farmers were 2109049 times cheaper than arenanets extortion.

...because the time-gated nature of Dilithium (can only "refine" so much per day) helps keep down the zen-exchange inflation. Unlike if it were just exchanging zen for an infinitely-farmable currency (energy credits/gold).

edit: Hmm, of course, there is the difference between STO & NWO, in the auction houses. AH in Star Trek runs on credits (gold), AH here seems to be dilithium/AD? That would reduce the utility of gold, I suppose. :/

While I understand that some people don't like the idea of "pay 2 win" but with the game being much simpler now than say 20 years ago (anyone remember EQ, UO or Meridian 59?) It doesn't take much to play a character once you get the idea on what skills you have, timing, and strategy.

Now there is a BIG difference between playing 1 to 60 and just go straight to 60 (it takes a bit to get use to all the abilities and timing) BUT it is not impossible for a person to pick up the character and do well.

This comes to gear. You could have a person who may have bought everything and be a great player because she/he has play MMO a lot and know how a character can and cannot do.

BUT being F2P you WILL get players who don't know what they are doing from 1 to 60 and still play bad. Nothing much you can do about that.

Now that aside, having a system to grind to get Zen is nice for people who has a lot of time vs buying Zen for those who don't. F2P system have shown that there is a market for it and make more money than subs (at least for many titles out there) The trick will be how much sink for AD will there be in NWN.

In STO (Star Trek Online another PW game) has a lot of sink for refined dilithium (same as AD) and the market is pretty stable there and make money.
To grow old is inevitable, to grow up is optional.
Please review my campaign and I'll return the favor.

And this has what to do with anything? The fact that they started out with a different model has no relevance whatsoever.
Your comparing pay 2 play and free to play. Thats not even in the same catagory just because those p2p went to f2p.

Let's look at the things you can buy for $ in NWO:

Allow me to comment on each of them:

    1. mounts
Vanity, you get mounts of the same speed by just playing. Same deal in B2P and subsrciption-based MMOs where you also pay on top of everything else for mounts with "rare" skins.

    2. bags
You get bags from quests, so this is perfectly optional.

    3. companions
You get the same quality/functionality of companions in the game.

    4. companion slots
Optional. You get 3 slots, extra ones are cheap but I see no need to get them at this time.

    5. character slots
You get two for free. New classes will be free (costs extra in B2P MMOs), and two slots are $5.

    6. bank slots
Optional. You get free bank slots and you can send spare stuff to alts, and leaves them forever in the alt's mailbox.

    7. all the guild stuff noone has discovered yet
    Seems vague, so no comment.

    8. Armor dye, and other fasion stuff
Vanity stuff. Totally optional. Dyes are also available in the game.

    9. Xp boosts
Pretty much useless. Leveling is very fast and there is no point in getting to max level even faster.

    10. helpful level packs
Nothing in there that the game doesn't give you anyway (ID scrolls, portable altars, etc.). Mostly annoying because they are account bound and don't stack with the identical items that drop from mobs.

    11. faster profession leveling
Optional. You can max out all professions in the game and you can do so while you are offline. Anything in these packs is also tradeable.

    12. respec tokens
That is the one thing I agree with. They are cheap, but I feel this should be a game feature.

    13. rename tokens
$2, wasn't it? I think in WoW it is $20. Many games do not allow any name changes, and 200 Zen is something you can easily make by exchanging astral diamonds that you get in the game.

    14. They claim foundry stuff will be free, but I doubt it.
What is there to doubt? It is in the game, works wonderfully, and is free.

I mean this respectfully, but I do think you are trying too hard to find fault with the game and the model. You are far too negative and I wonder why that is. You get an epic game with a ton of content for free, and while yes, it would be nice if you actually contributed to its upkeep, you can play ALL the content without ever paying. I do not know a comparable game that offers this level of quality and freedom for people who never pay.

It seems free stuff always gets criticized more harshly than for-pay stuff, even if it's the same quality or better. I bought pretty much every MMO that came out since UO, and frankly, this one here is better than most that require you to buy a box before you can even try them out. Look at the game as a gift. If you like it, play it and maybe support it. If you don't enjoy it, play something else, whether it is free or costs money.

Oh Snap!! This hurts more than you know and rings of the truth behind the cash shop.I am willing to wait for my friends but to those who have family and friends leave them behind for players who spend more money in the shop..I feel yur pain.

End game gear can only be purchased with SEALS. you can not buy them with zen or ad. You can only get them by invoking once every 24 hours or ......DUH....doing dungeons. The bosses drop the seals. For the love of god, if you have not played yet, then stop assuming.

that's level 60 gear and t1 gear. the worst gear in the game because it has no set bonuses.
