I can't agree with the title of this thread. I'm loving my half- orc GWF, I have since closed beta, which is why she's my main. As a defender/off tank I figure my primary role is to keep our healer alive and then worry about mass damage. Of course this will be like all the other games where those who want to top the damage boards roll the highest dps characters. Let's just hope they don't get upset if Trion has to balance characters later.

I wonder about the information that is given to people that play GWF.
The GWF has always been a defensive leaning class.
The GWF is more of an AOE dps class then a burst or direct damage class.
The developers have stated more then once that the GWF is producing the damage they intended for the class to produce in relation to the other classes.
So that must mean :
A. The damage is "tuned" around a skill or skill tree that new players do not get until later.
B. There is some mechanics at play that are not obvious to the user. IE They are tuned for a certain combo or when they attack from the Flank they go DPS mode, maybe to off set having both "tankish"' and "DPS" roles.
C. They are tuned for AOE content that does not really exist. Most Mobs are clustered in groups of 3 or 4, A Class that specializes in damage to 6 mobs becomes very situational.
Not according to official wiki or the DnD Player Handbook itself. Stop spreading false information.
Well that's your problem right there. This game doesn't follow DnD rules it's just inspired by them. Cryptic can do whatever they want with the classes and in this case the GWF is a AOE DPS class as shown on their own sites. I think people need to forget ANYTHING that is DnD (except for the lore and locations) when thinking about Neverwinter. Neverwinter is more of a novel set in the Sword Coast, like one of Salvatore's books not a true DnD game like the NWNs or even Baldur's Gate.

according to that wiki, they are somehow primary role of damage dealer and defender, and a secondary role of striker and defender. Can't trust the info there yet.
