[Roleplaying] Where the hell is the section for Roleplaying?

So I'm just looking to the site as I'm just getting invested into the game (Founders) and well, it's a little bit unnerving when you take on a IP such as DnD and well, I'd expect a massive focal attention to Roleplaying, so this does make me ask a few questions such as what is Cryptic doing in this game to make it Roleplayer friendly?

In their Champions Online game, they did a good job at letting you make up a characters Bio and such, but I am wondering, with this specific IP, how far are they willing to go to enable the Roleplaying community?

Get back to me and let me know what you think!

Have a great day and looking forward to the Open Beta.

You can type in a Bio and the Foundry lets you make whatever you want for environments... What else would you like. RP is a player driven type of play-style.

Player Housing / Custom locations. (Maybe this is the Foundry feature.)

Customizable armors / armor reskins - such as the system World of Warcraft / Rift employ.

A in-game character reference system, such as the many mods that World of Warcraft allow, such as My Roleplay and Total Roleplay 2.

While maybe my suggestions are broad and unrealistic, I'm just voicing, well, there are no MMO's that fully dedicate them self to supporting Roleplaying, they all ways go half hearted about it, I'd love to see a D&D IP fully explore all they can provide for a roleplaying community, you give us the tools, we shall look after the rest.

And then I actually took a detailed look into the Foundry.. I think I need a clean set of clothes.. we can consider this thread over.

Armor Dyes and a Cosmetic Outfit slot set are both available for players. Additionally, you can also transfer the 'look' of one piece of gear to another, enabling you to stick with a particular look throughout the game. An editable Biography section is available and can be altered at will. The naming system allows for both first and last names and uses a hidden @<username> attachment thus allowing for non unique names. There's several gathering places such as the Moonstone Mask that are there mostly just as places to hang out and socialize. There are no racial restrictions on classes and a wide array of character customization options at character creation. There's a full emote system with a wide array of options. You can walk, sit, and lay down. The Foundry allows you to design your own content, which if wished could simply be a house or city plaza for groups of up to five to RP in. Guild housing is something they've mentioned a desire to do in the near future. There's even companion animals if you wish to own a dog.

Short of sittable chairs and player housing, there's little more they could really add.

After you've cleaned yourself up, let me be the first to welcome you to the RP community!

As you've no doubt discovered, the tradition of great RP is well-preserved in this game and the RP community is a whole is already thriving and we haven't even launched yet!

Welcome, welcome and if you have any additional questions related to RP, fire away and we'll do our best to answer them!

Do you know of any portals / websites that are focused on all that is NW Roleplay? A place to get my toes wet with roleplay and to help get connected / in the loop?

Not off the top of my head but I know there are a few starting up and a wide amount of the forumites are huge into RP.

Being that the game is still in Closed Beta (as of now) the RP Communities are still fledglings. Many players, such as myself, who love to RP in D&D Games aren't RP'ing at this stage. To date every single one of my characters has been named Ambisinisterr or a variation of Ambisinisterr.
That will change quickly once we enter Open Beta. ;)

So in a nutshell, don't judge the RP based on what you see now. There are plenty of RP'ers here but in Closed Beta organised RP is almost non-existent.

If you've not seen them yet, I'd recommend http://www.neverwinter-rp.com for discussion forums, stories and guild advertisements, and http://www.nw-hallofrecords.com for character profiles in the popular wiki format. :)

Hey all, as a veteran of NWN1 I was amazed to stumble across this new development by chance yesterday!

Having played ST:O I was deeply disappointed by the lack of division between RP and Videogaming. I had hoped that as WoW caters for the fantasy videogamer that NWN might focus on the RPer or at the very least have a separate server/ area for the RPers. Anyone know if this is the case or whether it will be a free-for-all. I really do hope its not the latter. Would be grateful if anyone could clarify.

Personally, I think they should have two distinct servers for such a thing. One for Role-Playing, one for just general gaming. That way Role-Players won't have to worry about Non-RPers ruining there fun by having randoms come up to them and mocking them or just be annoying. While the Non-RPers have there server and not worry about coming in on a awkward (Sometimes Erotic)RP session, or be swamped by people who do RP.

I mean, yea Champions Online catered to RPers abit what with the Club in Ren Center and the Hideouts but I think what I'm saying would save the RP community even more in a game such as this where alot of things are literately out in the open and what with people generally being, you know, "PEOPLE". Two servers would be appreciated.

An old mage walks in, clad in robes of contrasting whites and blacks, looks around then nods and says, "We've been using the Arts & Fiction Hall for the telling of storys and other merriment while we await the restructuring of this grand discussion hall and the addition of many needed forums and scrolls. Indeed!"

The old mage nods, flipping a page in his tome, then waves down the hall and continues, "For more in-depth and other-worldy discussions, I encourage you all to take part in this great discussion, magically preserved down this hall, look for the scrolls labeled "Sticky: Feedback: Roleplayer Concerns - Open for all to add!" The mage then smiles and continues roaming the halls, open tome in hand.

I'm certainly looking forward to an RP-friendly environment here too.
From what I've seen so far I think we should have a great world to live in.

This forum needs a Roleplay section badly. It's far enough along now and it's clear the demand is there. Let's hope that is addressed and soon.

RP is thriving in the game and outside of the game for those who have already "bought into" Neverwinter Online. And we are CUSTOMERS, the vast majority of our RP members have PURCHASED packs. We're paying customers, eager to pay more too when the game launches, we could use a little attention.

Our guild has no less than seven active OP threads on our guild site and we will probably hit 75 members (in our guild alone) by launch. Those open RP threads get dozens of updates every day, they are that active.

Our RP-related activity is literally almost minute-to-minute. As I type this a new character profile went up and a long discussion about how to RP certain alignments effectively was bumped with new input.

Take a look at the excellent resources highlighted by ladydwarf just a few posts up, but also if you are so inclined, drop us a line here:

    http://nwshadow.enjin.com

If you enjoy a sense of "family" as a role player and a real commitment to working together to forge great RP (and plots and characters in those plots), please feel free to join in.

But make no mistake, we need an RP forum here. We are coalescing in all kinds of environments right now, but sadly don't feel quite as welcome by the official forum, simply because there is not an official place for us to coalesce and discuss what we want from the RP Community.

The threads mentioned above are great too (thank you zebular), but the time for a specific sub-forum for RP has come.

I agree. I've been looking around the different forums and haven't found a relevant place to have a good RP discussion about Menzoberranzan & character biography suggestions.
